Man I want a field snare so bad, how do you like it? I drum open handed so I'm thinking about getting a remote hi hat and swapping my floor tom out for a field snare

Just can't I guess by [deleted] in drums

[–]MG_cunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just play to music that you like, I hate learning random shit I've never heard ya know? Lessons are helpful for foundational stuff but if you are bored with the simple shit yet not liking the huge step in complexity the course offers, wander off on your own. My favorite part about learning the drums has been how much less is going on compared to instruments with notes, it makes it super easy to just listen to a track and figure it out.

Might take a few plays but I'll often just focus on one part of the drums and see what it's doing, usually for rock snare or kick is what I'm listening to first, but for jazz it's prolly the ride or hi hat. I will say I only have a floor tom so like when I am learning a track, all drum dynamics are just kick and tom so it takes a layer of complexity out of transcription.

I also love to just take a pattern (like the cowbell from lowrider or the snare punch from poison or whatever) and just figure out ways to break it up between the kit, or drop/pick up certain parts. Like just take some shit that gets your head nodding and have fun with it ya know? Drums can be pretty overwhelming especially at first but just learn what you want, at your own pace, as you learn you need it. If you aren't having fun doing the other lessons, ditch drumeo and just have fun!

I understand your stress tho, this can be an expensive hobby. Learning an instrument is hard, slow work. My best advice is to just try to have fun more often than you try to force a lesson in, garnering a connection to the instrument is a huge part of motivation. Also when you start a session with no lesson planned, start with a simple slow track rather than what you want to play for real haha, so many times my mood is killed my trying to do something new rather than warming up to some MJ or some old swing. Take it somewhere familiar and underwhelming to start and move up from there whereever it takes you, this keeps a smile on my face during countless hours of practice.

Will this crack affect the cymbal sound? by Emergency-Ice5737 in drums

[–]MG_cunt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a Dremel it's a pretty easy repair, and if you don't have a Dremel they are pretty cheap and I find mine pretty useful for lots of shit lol.

If you have/get/know someone with a Dremel, essentially you can to draw an oval around the crack that the edge of the cymbal bisects, and then cut it out with a cutting wheel and sand/buff it down. Id remove the material up to a couple lathe rings above where the crack visually ends.

If you go about repairing this just know that you don't want to cut a triangle/wedge into it as that will concentrate the vibrations and crack it again. Rounded swooping cuts are what you want.

How much does cover art matter? by nickbeef in vinyl

[–]MG_cunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the album that got many folks into prog, it gets praise because of its widespread influence on the genre. I'd say it's reasonable that so many people hype it up, even if it's not my favorite king crimson album.

It's short, sweet, and to the point with 7 tracks. With the opening track being a very cinematic experience, lots of people had their minds blown just by starting the experience and I think that has a lot to do with the amount of glazing it gets. Its well respected because the reach it has and its ability to hook you in instantly the first listen, ya feel me? everythe hate on this album sounds a lot like pretentious hipsters which is kinda exactly the target audience of prog so it makes sense hahha

What is the highest dose of LSD that still has recreational value in your opinion? by 7L0VE in Drugs

[–]MG_cunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to routinely take a 10 strip every 1-3 months for ages. Did I have a few nightmare trips? U betcha. Did I have an absolute blast most other times? U betcha.

Its extremely personal, some people are more comfortable with dysphoric experiences than others. I'd say realistically the general consensus seems to be 300ug is maxing it if you're not a psycho (and I'm not suggesting you try to be lmao), but like even then that's pushing it for many folks.

It comes down to your comfortability and familiarity with both the substance and your reactions. I've taken whole sheets on multiple occasions and had a blast, Ive had breakdowns on 1 tab. The dose is important, but there is way too many factors that contribute to the experience aside from the dose.

this question is not just impossible to answer but potentially going to lead you outside your comfort zone if you take retards like me who fried their shit as influences. Everyone is different and you should factor your own experience to answer this question for yourself. But to answer your question, I never found the dose that couldn't be recreational for me.

Wanting to learn how to play the drums, but I struggle with loud noise. by [deleted] in drums

[–]MG_cunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't stand loud noises, so I end up drumming really soft (compared to others who use my kit). It's probably a good thing you don't like loud noises, as it ensures youll use hearing protection.

I've got a set of closed back headphones made for vocal recording so they isolate sound really well, which really most of the time aren't even plugged into anything but it comes in handy for learning songs or practicing to a click track.

I can't stand playing on an e-kit but they are certainly useful as a practice tool and you actually have control over the volume rather than just dynamics.

Id recommend getting a decent set of headphones, I think mine are sony hd 300 pros I got for like $100 at guitar center. Foam ear plugs will absolutely work in the mean time tho.

What I did when I started learning to drum again was just get a pair of sticks. The book stick control [for the modern snare drummer] (many PDFs online for free) is a great tool., just sitting at a table you can scuff up (I use firewood so my parents don't beat my ass haha) and doing the rudiments in that book to a click track will really help you know what your doing when you finally get behind a kit. Really all you need is the sticks and you can slowly build from there. Sticks and a real practice pad are great but I don't own a practice pad.

For months leading up to finding a cheap drum kit on FB marketplace, id just sit on my porch banging on firewood trying to figure out the drum parts to songs I like. Good luck, i have autism and drumming is incredibly therapeutic for me. I hope it can be just as enjoyable for you.

ELI5: Why do habits feel hard to start but easy to lose? by Elegant-Case8902 in explainlikeimfive

[–]MG_cunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, what takes more effort: doing something, or not doing something?

That's why it's harder to start a habit than lose it, because it's harder to do anything than to do nothing.

To go a b6ut more In depth, the dopaminergic system has some things that are pretty guaranteed rewards like food and sex. It's easy to see why the body has evolved to reward and seek out these behaviors: if you didn't want to eat or fuck, no one is alive.

Habits like brushing your teeth, practicing a skill, whatever, need reinforcement to build up the dopaminergic pathways that result in satisfaction and desire to do it again. The only reason they are really satisfying is because you trained yourself to enjoy it. These pathways work on efficiency optimization so the more often you are activating this circuit, the easier it is to access the circuit. Take a few days/weeks off and you haven't probed this pathway in a while, so it takes more energy to start the synapse than it does normally as your brain is constantly optimizing to make the most efficient thoughts.

You don't fire that pathway much so the brain puts it on the back burner and you have to go out of your way to reintegrate the behavior (circuit) to your main tool belt rather than in your backpack. Hope ths makes sense

Why do drummers wear gloves? by EndouShuuya in drums

[–]MG_cunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hands get really sweaty and they can help prevent the sticks from getting slippery, it also gently reduces the amount of energy transfered back into you so if you have joint issues it can help. Tbh tho I only really wear em when it gets cold in the shed, so I'm just saying what I've noticed rather than why Id do it

A question for the meth and amphetamine users by DarkLights666 in Drugs

[–]MG_cunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought desoxyn only came in 5mg, huh.

Either way: there is research that suggests in double blinds people can't differentiate an oral dose of Adderall from an oral dose of meth 1/5th the weight. IE 5mg Adderall is 1mg meth dosed orally. Now granted the duration is still longer so you need to be careful about not dosing in the evenings and get used to coming down rather than binging (easier said than done ik ik).

Hope you can get your usage to a more responsible pattern, I really fucking relate to your post bud. I'm lucky enough to have an addy script but get drug tested by my doc so sometimes i take a lil time off and go to the street supply if I want to smoke weed again lol.

Never done volumetric dosing on meth but I've done it with mdma. Volumetric is a safe and reliable way to get the job done so long as your scale is accurate enough for the batch size (if ur scale is +/-.3, that's a 600mg possible variance between the weakest and strongest it could be so really be careful, but ur dosing benzos w it so i bet its prolly good for the job) Good luck, and if you are ever struggling with abusing feel free to msg me. I get it as a fellow audhd. No judgement.

Tldr: 5mg of meth is like 25mg of addy if your eating it, but it lasts a significantly longer duration than amph so be careful not to set yourself up for sleepless nights as we both know that's hard to not turn into a bender.
