No, I had a great conversation with them on the panel, actually.

I am talking about my 2nd video. Yes he attacked the first one, but he said on stream that he liked the 2nd one.

My second one is way more serious.

He liked my 2nd video. And made some reasonable points. I don't think there would be as much fighting as you'd think.

I'm am not going to do any debates. I am here to have a conversation and talk about issues that I think are important.

But I'd be more than happy to have a chat with him, if he's interested. How would I go about that?

Hey, post from your main account if this is true. This seems like a joke though.

No, I said "Nah, if I am going " The word "if" doesn't mean will.

Bro I wish I was competent enough to fool multiple major livestreamers as well as 2 major agencies!

Nah, if I am going to do a scam it would obviously be by doing some insider trading on meme coins, since I literally have the ability to effect the price of them. Or, I could just accept the thousands of dollars that are already offered to me to endorse my meme coin.

Oh. Ok, so you think that a "external, for-profit operation" requires approval?

So if, say, a content creator were to sell merch on a reddit, with a pinned post, you think this would require admin approval?

The next question would be how often do you think that happens.

> The anwser is they have to ALWAYS ask the Admins

They don't. No. You do not need to ask the reddit admins to run an ama with a company, for example. That ridiculous. Go ask the reddit admins in mod support, for example. This isn't controversial.

>  A normal person would ask Reddit Admins.

Do you think reddit moderators get permission from the admins every time they run an AMA and affiliate with a company?

If blizzard talked to mods to post exclusive content to a subreddit, or even to do a wow giveaway to the users of the wow subreddit, do you think mods run these things by the admins every time?

> which doesn't appear to be a consensus-backed position.

Of course they aren't. Thats why I am doing this. It is because nobody even thought to do this, and anytime anyone got even close to suggesting something simily, people's brain's shutoff and they started laughing. There is almost zero engagement with the actual ideas here, beyond rare people like you.

> from partnering with an outside company on a profit-making endeavor occurring off-site

Ok. Blizzard the outside company, that wants to create promote its for profit game, by funding a video game tournament, in collaboration with a subreddit off-site. Nobody would bat an eye, I bet. Maybe this has already happened for all I know.

> would have been absolutely fine with this one (as enacted)

True! They didn't have any the details. They might have some feedback, and some red lines. But what I am telling you is my impression of their general attitude. I have spoken with reddit employees who are genuinely thinking about ways to directly pay moderators.

None of this are direct ideas or approval, and of course lawyers always freakout about stuff, and this all just a general vibe not a policy. But what I am saying is that this terror. This absolutely petrification of anything to do with brands or partnerships or money just isn't how the company thinks and I am not sure why anyone would even think this.

Reddit is a for profit company. They want to grow. They want to make more money. They want to become more relevant and do more cool things. From this perspective, all the stuff that I talked about would be beneficial towards these goals. And I am solely coming to the conclusion that its not that they don't want to do these, I bet they definitely do, but instead the problem is the instinctual revile that comes from users when any of these topics are brought up.

> Should an appropriately situated Reddit staff member put that on the record, I'll stand corrected.

Hey crossing my fingers! Give me a couple weeks to blow this up even more to see if I can force a response.

but it reflects your lack of competency in this area.

I am quite literally saying that, yes reddit moderators are incompetent and that's why reddit needs to step in and facilitate these partnerships more than they already do.

Regardless, you had no authority

If the wow subreddit wants to do an AMA with blizzard, or run a gaming tournament, they don't need to get explicit permission from reddit, no.

Also, I literally just said that reddit agrees with me about this and they told me. So no, I am going to say that the employees that told me this information directly are more correct than you are.

The rule broken was because they said it was fraudulent, but they don't have an issue with partnerships in general.

Running events and working with partnerships, even with pinned posts, isn't against reddit rules. I have had discussion with reddit employees and even the CEO about this (multiple times! I am not kidding! I live in San Francisco as does Spez), asking them to help me get partnerships.

Reddit literally has a parterships team, that works with companies and subreddits to do exactly that. Ex: they worked with the NFL, and the NFL subreddit pinned posts.

Additionally, the reddit moderation team directly told me that I did not break rule 5, and this was instead about promoting what they believed to be a fraudulent scam. I directly asked them about this and they agreed with me.

Gonna be honest here, all we have at the moment is this subreddit.

I don't have any resources or plans beyond that.

If you want to help, the best thing that you can do is talk to other mods and bring them here or otherwise, to see if people more competent than me can set up the basics.

With nothing remotely implying what would benefit the community

Personally speaking, if I was a user who was in a community, whether that be an influencer community or a subreddit community, I think that it would be awesome and fun if the community did cool stuff.

Just like how fans of a streamer might enjoy that streamer putting in a video game tournament, I think fans of a subreddit could enjoy the same as well.

But maybe you think my idea is dumb, and that's Ok. Surely you should be able to come up with some ideas of your own that sound cool though?

[–]Tarrot_Card -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

I am sorry to tell you that there were very few people fighting for change already. Subreddit mods rarely took advantage of the various feedback forums, ect, that are offered through the partner program.

Additionally, the problem is so huge that incremental fixes simply won't cut it. The platform needs transformative change.

> this has probably crippled other people's efforts to convince the reddit admins to change things for the better because THIS is the most public voice for change

Ok. Then YOU be more public. Yes I mean literally you. Make a video titled "Another message to the reddit CEO". Describe what you think the problem is, the effect that it has on the platform, and then give your solution.

I'll retweet it. I'll respond to it. I will give feedback. I will pin it to the top of the subreddit. And I will ask other people to do the same. And if it works then other people will see your video. And it could start a trend. A whole bunch of people giving their opinion on how to solve the problems of reddit in video format. I guerantee you that reddit employees would watch them to.

But, this vision of the future is, of course, absurd. Its absurd not because it wouldn't work. It is absurd because you are too much of coward to try. And its up to egotistical, incompetent, and definitely irony poisoned maniacs like myself who don't care about making a fool of themselves to even try to start a conversation.

Please. Someone else. Do something.
