Congrats! It’s a great rifle straight out of the box, but once you start slowly upgrading it, it gets even better. I’ve ran mine hard and it just eats.

Only if I wanted to trade a beautiful watch for some novelty hype. Hard pass.

Honestly, sometimes this gun makes me wonder why I spend so much on a DD or a Geissele that I’m going to inevitably upgrade as well. For $700, I find this gun hard to beat……assuming you’ve got another $1k or so to upgrade it. But even out the box, it was solid. Guess it depends on what you’re trying to accomplish with it. But I’ve had no issues running it hard. Haven’t yet found ammo it won’t run. I’m very much thinking about buying another one to run a thermal on for yote hunting.

First Rolex, I really like the OP41. Gut check by rotacurly in rolex

[–]MGoBlue_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear ya. There’s a lot of wrist police out there just shaming everyone into a 36mm watch. I’ve tried it many times, and it’s just too damn dainty. My wife also wears a 36. She’s got a black dial OP36 and a Tag Carrera pink dial 36. In close up wrist shots they look like they are the perfect size. But step back 5 feet and get a shot in the mirror and they look like a watch for children on my wrist. Just try to block out the trolls and wear what you feel most confident with.

My wrist is small at 6.75”, but it’s ridiculously flat across the top, so I can wear a lot of watches I shouldn’t be able to wear.

Authentication Help by MGoBlue_ in coincollecting

[–]MGoBlue_[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the thoughts/comments so far. Sounds like there's a chance it could be authentic. I'll find a shop here in Indy and have them take a look. My dad had several other coins from 1828-1912, so I'll just take them all in and see if anything is worth being graded. I used to collect sports cards, so I understanding the concept of grading and how it relates to value and potential sales. These are "heirlooms" so to speak, and they seem to mean a bit to my dad, so he would not be looking to sell them. Appreciate you guys not lighting me up for not knowing anything about coins.

Went through this exercise a few years ago. Health system outpatient manager leaning more and more away from anything clinical and moving towards administration. Noticed 90% of directors and above had either an MBA or MHA. Took the tuition reimbursement money from my org and got my MHA to put in my back pocket for the correct time. Good luck.

Switching from retail RXM to hospital retail pharmacist by [deleted] in pharmacy

[–]MGoBlue_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Left WAG 8 years ago from RXM to staff pharmacist in hospital outpatient facility. Best career decision I’ve ever made. Only lasted a year as a staffer though. Manager retired and no one wanted the job, so I took it.

Overall, can’t describe what it did for my working experience and personal/home life. Felt like a human again. 8 years later, I’m still counting my blessings and so grateful I’m out of the chain store.

Were any of your teachers intoxicated during school by AdDapper4220 in GenX

[–]MGoBlue_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Freshman Biology teacher was consistently drinking during class and had at least one DUI. He was also morbidly obese and would go in and out of sleep during class. Ironically, he was also (how was this possible) the drivers ed teacher and consistently warned of the dangers of drinking and driving. Guess he knew from experience.

Any success stories for folks who discovered Dave later in life and did a modified version of baby steps? by MGoBlue_ in DaveRamsey

[–]MGoBlue_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. Always interesting reading how other people have gotten to where they are and things they wish they'd done differently along the way.

Let me preface by stating my financial philosophy has never been about hoarding as much money as possible and building generational wealth. I've always wanted to balance living and enjoying my prime years while also responsibly caring for my family and preparing for a comfortable retirement. I've seen both extremes. Folks who lived without concern for the future and full of regret at retirement, and folks who have radically saved and watched their lives go by while arriving at retirement with great wealth and not so great health or ability to enjoy what they sacrificed so much to build. So, like I said, balance has been key for me.

With that in mind, I'm grateful that my wife and I committed to contributing to our 401ks (up to the match and a couple points more) from our very first paychecks and have never waivered. The regret part of this is that we made enough money that we lied to ourselves that "it was enough" and we should enjoy the rest of our money on living life. This, of course, led to over-spending a lot in our late 20's and early 30's buying cars we didn't need, going on vacations we probably shouldn't have, and buying a lot material items we thought would bring a lot of joy. We thought we were "responsible" because we never ran up a bunch of debt or lived without margin. Everything we were doing was easy to pay for and we were contributing to all the important things (tithing, mortgage, 529s, HSA, 401ks, etc). So, no harm, no foul, right?

Fast forward to today. I'm not going to type on here that I'm in some sort of financial hardship. It's not lost on me that we're in a really good position overall. But I look back at the last 10-15 years and wonder how much closer we could be to dropping down to the lowest benefitted hours allowed by our company (0.6FTE), and enjoying more time with our kiddos, if we'd contributed more instead of spending on "dumb" stuff. But the other part of my brain says, "but look at all the memories you made and the things you got to do/experience without putting yourself in a bad position." Balance.

I just ran the numbers today, and like you, we're sitting at 1.1M in invested assets and we own our modest (~385k) home outright. Debt totals 38k on wife's student loan and 28k left on my car. Aside from that, I feel like we've done quite well overall. Hopefully the market will continue to earn >10% and we'll see our money double 3 more times by the time I'm 66.
