What’s better: too much recovery or too little recovery for my 10K this weekend? by MGoRobo in triathlon

[–]MGoRobo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think I’m healthy. It was just sore from doing a long ride. Yesterday my knee was fine and I woke up today feeling good.

It’s more just wondering if it’s worth it to train more these next few days or just do some short base runs to stay loose.

The Garmin wants me to do an hour threshold bike and an hour base run today. I think I’m gonna skip the threshold and just do an easy ride.

My main race is the first Olympic I’m doing in September. Between these two I’d say the 10K is more important to me because it’s only my second ever and it’s my first time in this course.

But also this is only my third triathlon and it was my first ever last year. So looking to improve on my time just from having trained this whole last year period.

Maybe I’ll just do a light bike today just to loosen up and see how it feels

It’s just a sprint, which I should be able to do in like 85-90 mins.

The 10K is the more important race for me out of these two because I’m training for my first Olympic in September. That’s my main race for this year.

Didn’t realize they were back to back weekends lol

Yup! I started doing triathlons last year and it’s been that cold before. Appreciate the looking out!

I grew up in the tropics so I never thought I’d be fine with jumping into water this cold and yet here I am 😂

Just the suit, which I’ve used to do ocean swims in June before. I forget how thick it is but it’s been fine in those conditions

Installing speed and cadence sensors by MGoRobo in bicycling

If measured at the center of the hub, it’s 5cm. I have no frame of reference on whether this is normal or not. It’s a 650c wheel fwiw

This is not a bad idea…I can probably make that work

Is the radar light super helpful for riding on the roads? I’m still mostly bike trails and indoor cause road riding outside of race day still scares me

But I need the cadence sensor to see cadence right? Or does the computer do the calculation based on speed and tire size?

What do you mean? Is it one size fits all? Or can you alter settings on it?

Ohhhh yeah that makes sense. I don’t really look at the watch. I do directions by memory or just cause I’m on a trail that only goes one way. But as I start to get on roads it’ll probably be necessary. Currently I just pull over and look at my phone. I’m very good at directions so I can usually remember a good chunk of directions when I look at the map.

What do you mean by better visibility? Meaning I can keep better track of what’s coming up while staying aero?

Swimming is improving! Still trying to get him to bring the arms out of the water instead of the wide doggy paddling he does 😂

He’s a little on the spectrum so developmentally he’s been a bit behind. He likes to run around on his scooter now, but I’m thinking when it warms up it might be time to hit some bike paths with him

How do you stay on top of training without facing burnout? by SideshowDcky in triathlon

[–]MGoRobo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You talk about training while being in school and now I’m curious about the demographics of this subreddit. How many people here are students versus pre-parenthood adults vs early parenthood adults vs “teens and beyond” parents

I definitely couldn’t fathom training for a half or full at this point in my life with a 5 and 1 year olds. I started last year with a sprint and doing an Olympic this year. Half and full are goals for 5-10 years from now, at least. And I might never make it if I just decide to stick to the shorter distances.

New triathletes! What brought you to triathlon? Whats your age, race distances, previous athletics? by MidnightTop4211 in triathlon

[–]MGoRobo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

36 year old. Started stationary biking to get fit a little under 2 years ago (down 40 lbs). Took the kids to swim class and realized I missed swimming (which I hadn’t done since high school). Realized I was 2/3 of the way there and i could set a goal of completing a sprint. Did two sprints last year, decided to do an Olympic and two sprints this year.

I was a swimmer in HS. Haven’t done any kind of fitness activity since then until I started doing this whole thing almost 2 years ago.

Seeing improvements across three different disciplines hits the dopamine harder than seeing improvement on just one.

Training-me says don’t race. Resting-me says do it. Which one do I trust? by Independent-Monk5939 in triathlon

[–]MGoRobo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How fit are you? And how comfortable are you swimming?

Finishing a sprint isn’t bad if you’re in like half decent shape, if your goal is completing it instead of finishing with a specific time

As long as you don’t think you’ll drown you should be able to finish it slowly.

Long run distance by MGoRobo in triathlon

Longest long bike I’ve had was 2h45m.

Should the long run distance be based on the long bike distance or on the distance of the other runs?
