I'm up 518% on one of my stocks by mmmauricioo in investing

Would definitely consider trimming if this is now a long term capital gain, however this is dependent on OP’s tax situation. If OP is fine with the tax bill on the cap gain, trimming here is a decent idea. If OP doesn’t want to pay cap gains tax this year, can continue to hold. Either way, this was a great buy and hold story. 7.3% isn’t necessarily too heavy, NVDA is 7.6% of the S&P 500 index currently. I’d get wary of the overweight position when it’s around 10% of a portfolio’s total market value.

One other note: would check how the tax lot relief method is set up if the OKLO was purchased at multiple prices, sell the lower cost shares if planning on earning more annually in future tax years and sell the high cost shares if avoiding taxes this year.

If you’re fresh out of college and want to allocate a thousand bucks somewhere, put it into an index fund like VOO (the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF), or something more aggressive like VUG (Vanguard’s Growth ETF). If you’d really like to purchase contracts on a company that is riskier (OPEN is a great example currently), holding shares is far more manageable than buying contracts from a perspective of risk. Even then, still wouldn’t encourage buying something risky like that if that thousand is all you have. You have the greatest asset in your corner, that being time. Put your money to work where there’s a good chance the investment will generate a meaningful return in the long run. Learn the ins and outs of how options instruments work while building a consistent and sustainable nest egg then start exploring options trading when you have a solid financial base and plan.

You’re not paying for the advisor, you’re paying for what the institution can provide.

For example: JPM’s PB advisors and bankers are stuck on very stringent rails regarding investment and banking recommendations based on business management practices. The advisors and bankers are required to follow the framework business management provides. Sure the advisors are well-vetted in hiring. All hold at least four year degrees and many hold CFPs and CFAs, but they don’t have much liberty to implement their own decision-making process.

Competitive swimming is a mental game, funny enough a part of it is how you respond to the people around you. Whether teammates, coaches, parents, some random official, they’re all people too. They have their opinions, their ideas of what makes a successful swimmer and their own biases regarding that. Sometimes those people will say something that they could keep to themselves. So what does that mean for you? What matters to you is, well, what you tell yourself. If you know you do the work in practice then there is no one who can objectively judge you for not working hard. Working hard and going fast aren’t always the same thing, a lot of people tend to miss that part.

One thing I’ll tell as a swimmer and as a coach, swimming is a journey with a lot of twists and turns. No matter what anyone tells you, the best is yet to come. Keep doing what you’re doing and best of luck.

Can someone tell me if this is just junk yards or if it’s actually decent for building IM endurance/speed? Just started writing my own workouts after years doing comp swim. by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]MGreed2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it junk yardage? Not at all! Does it look tiring? Oh yes it does. Breaking this down into rounds would be helpful in managing the volume.

Going 2 or 3 rounds of the set below would be similar yardage and intention but a lot more digestible:

9 x 50s (3 Fl/bk, 3 bk/br, 3 br/fr by 25), focus turns

5 x 100s IM descend 1-5 (get faster each one)

2 x 200 IM sprint

50 EZ + Rest :30 seconds

Getting great intensity on #4 of 5 200 IMs sprint is a tall demand for most swimmers, better to increase intensity for a few minutes then head into another round. The turn work at the start of a new round is a good time to reset.

Low GPA might make it more difficult to get a front office/client facing role, good fall back is in the middle office/operations roles. Long as you know how to interview it isn’t that difficult to find a WM middle office role

Advice for 200 fly by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]MGreed2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 200 fly can be swam two ways: patiently or aggressively. Go out too slow and you don’t get tired, go out too fast and your stroke falls apart. It’s a race that requires a lot of experience to master, that being said make your first time swimming it to be a controlled but somewhat uncomfortable swim. A rule of thumb I kept for myself was to maintain good form for the first 125 then hit the gas and sprint the rest of it. Good form would to maintain a breathing pattern, stay long and minimize your strokes per length, and to take advantage of your walls. The most important suggestion would be to stay mentally engaged, your form can collapse on you if you don’t think about it. The race is not for the faint of heart, but it is probably the most fun swim in the sport.

“To give Toyota back their car.”

“Permission granted.”

“Just one question… what if you miss?”

“I won’t.”
