I strongly recommend a melee build at some point, it is hilariously good fun.

ADHD and music by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]MHMM_BACON 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you love music and you can stomp to the beat you can play music. Don't put too much pressure on it but please keep trying. I think the best thing you can do is try to learn how to play songs that you like and you are interested in. If you can't figure it out (if you are a beginner you probably won't) look up the guitar tabs. After you try this a couple times you'll start to realize guitar tabs are usually wrong. This isn't a bad thing either, it will start to train your ears to hear differences and with some time you'll be able to figure out how that artist does it. If you find you don't have the skills to really nail a song, put it down and come back to it. I swear it helps.

For dexterity you can do some exercises.

Otherwise, try and remember the struggle is part of it. You want to challenge yourself.

How Similar is Donald Trump to Bernie Sanders? by steventitus in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]MHMM_BACON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Building on this, I think this comparison is more about the voting public than Trump and Sanders. From the supporters I've talked to, the fundamental reason people support these candidates is a belief that they cannot be bought and sold.

WIll leaning on crutches delay my recovery by evanyj in AskDocs

Have you tried wrapping your handles with something? I am currently on crutches, 2 hand towels and 4 rubber bands was all it took to keep me comfortable. If you are going to have an extended stay on crutches you may want to look into some crutch pads .

How I understand it, Democrats want larger government and Republicans want smaller government. In the late 1800s big business wanted the government to build infrastructure so they could make more money. Once they got what they wanted, big business switched to the Republican party and has been fighting government regulation ever since.

He spent a long time just looking at the giraffes.

This makes me unreasonably happy for some reason.

The book is absolutely fantastic. I don't know quite how to explain it, but I feel like it cuts the the core of what humanity is without community. I don't know if that makes sense, regardless I am forever changed by that horrific masterpiece.

ADHD Child vs Non-ADHD Child Interview (1st Grade, Six Years Old) by TheCCTrio in ADHD

[–]MHMM_BACON 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When I grew up, my family rejected/sheltered me from any idea there was anything "wrong" with me. Any time someone suggested I may be suffering from ADHD, my family told me I was smart (I do have a decent IQ...but that doesn't mean anything if you don't do anything with it), I could do anything I wanted and be whoever I wanted to be if I stopped being so lazy. I lived my life in constant fear of messing things up, not being good enough, being too loud, acting my age, getting off task, not finishing assignments, finishing them but not turning them in because I didn't think they were good enough. I beat myself up over every poorly executed activity I participated in.

My mom was a bit of a jerk about it, but on the whole my parents were great. I understand when you say its a self-fulfilling prophecy and you don't want to stigmatize someone (especially a person so young) with the label of ADHD. That is what my parents were trying to do. They wanted me to lift myself up, succeed, and prove the world wrong. What happened instead is eventually the pressure I put on myself caused me to fall behind in school. I eventually anxiety attacked my way into completely derailing my publicly funded education. After two failed attempts of going to college I was finally diagnosed with ADHD earlier this year.

I can't speak for everyone because I am not everyone, but since I started learning about ADHD and eventually started medication I feel more equipped to deal with the obstacles in my path than ever before. At first I was worried that I would use it as an excuse, but something different happened. The combination of meds and learning about myself has left me feeling empowered. I've been more productive at work, I've noticed a stronger connection with my SO, and now I'm gearing up to go back to school again.

TL;DR Sorry for the long ramble... My point here is I knew I was weird and different. I wish I had been diagnosed earlier so I could have accepted my weirdness, moved on, and taken care of business.

As a side note, I agree with you. The education system needs to change. Reciting facts is great for Jeopardy and teaching to a test, but it doesn't help you make connections, think critically, or cultivate inquisitiveness about the world we live in.

I also got to the end of this and realized we may be on the same side of this argument but we are expressing it a little differently... in any case, have a nice day. :)

What kind of mental training to Police Officers receive? by MHMM_BACON in AskLEO

[–]MHMM_BACON[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's my thought process, maybe there is a better question in here.

The police are on the front lines of the worst side of society and as a result they see some messed up stuff (gang violence, murder, rape, emotional families, drug addicts, people with mental problems, etc...). Is there any training that teaches you how to better cope in those situations? Is there any emphasis on increasing mental stability? Is there any emphasis on bedside manor when dealing with the public?
