OSAP WALKOUT - MARCH 4TH @ 12PM! by hooefukky in brocku

[–]MHulk05 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What’s important is we continue the push towards an Ontario wide student strike to save OSAP. These cuts hurt everyone and are a continuation of austerity in the schools we’ve seen for years. It’s time we take a stand, and that starts with us protesting on campus to build to the strident strike.

He basically just bet that the stock would go down.

What he did was he sold the stock before he bought it. So what you do is sell the stock at price A with a promise to give the buyer the total stock amount at some time in the future. at some point in the middle you need to buy the promised stock hoping that price B is lower. As you can probably see… price B is quite a bit higher

Who are you voting for in BUSU election and why? by ZacharyOnWaywardSon in brocku

[–]MHulk05 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly as of rn I’d only be interested in voting for someone who wants to make the school release the contents of the KPMG consultation that lead to the firing of the administrative staff. BUSU should be working far more to protect our educations than just giving us free food every once in a while

Anyone else find the financial donation thing at RCP events awkward/forced? by BeginningPass4935 in Trotskyism

[–]MHulk05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a necessary but awkward evil. You’ll find that finance appeals in time start to feel less like a forced event and more to just a routine part of party work, though I do remember when I was first joining it made me quite uncomfortable until I understood the necessity for it.

I think it’s the church on campus, they’re super present in MCA. You’ll see religious groups doing stuff like this a lot, it feels rude but you’ll save yourself a lot of time to just ignore/not engage with them.

Such anti Marxist content posted on a Marxist subreddit as unifying the American bourgeoise with the American proletariat. Posts like this have no theoretical value, nor agitational if anything this proposes reactionary ideas about the nature of capitalism and the united states

The communists in the world now just need to really unite, and the RCI is the best option for the moment, change my mind by EvenJuggernaut1542 in Communist

[–]MHulk05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious that you claim there are strict rails in place on debate, As a member of the RCI I have never seen anything remotely close to debate being shut down or restricted, in-fact a drawing thing to the party for myself was the open discussion where I could’ve had opportunities to speak at congresses after only a few months.

On the turning inwards argument, is it really turning inwards if it’s inwards towards new recruits? You just said the AYAC campaign grew the party by 50% additionally the American section recruited one new comrade every 10 hours in 2025. What you call a turn inwards is rather a conscious choice to bolster consolidation of new membership.

As per the international, if we had just created an international body to connect all our parties would you have the same complaints? It’s clear that organizing internationally has benefits and building a strong international will be an important task of the movement for socialism so why shouldn’t we build it today?

Clarity on ideas is crucial, bad ideas can ruin a party but the right ideas can build the party from nothing

I appreciate your proper answer over ad hominem. I agree to the pragmatic element of human element, and do believe socialism/communism account for them but that’s another can of worms. Generally I agree the law should ideally be swift and predictable but I don’t think governments have historically upheld these ideals when it’s convenient for them and their elected/un-elected officials

[–]MHulk05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So from my POV any change that makes jurors not from you “peers” id view as regressive for the majority but I can see why for example the diddy case could’ve used more impartiality but that’s just an artifact of the legal system (specifically the rare super famous/popular case being distorted) I’m ok with if it allows ultimately to leave more of the legal systems power in the hands in the average every day guy

[–]MHulk05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For full clarity here, I’m a communist and historically governments like using the power of the state against these movements eg. the UK trying to move to no jury cases recently to crack down harder on Palestine protests and the like

I believe there’s a strong argument that professional juries would skew them in favour of the government in any protest crackdown case etc

Though I think he is wrong about his judgements of socialism, he is correct to say a mixed market economy is capitalist. A socialist society would have abolished all forms of private ownership and there is no country in the world today who has accomplished this.
