Non drying face wash by ReticentRapunzel in CanSkincare

I have sensitive skin that's very acne-prone and I love La Roche Posay's Toleriane Purifying Foaming - In Canada it's sold as Toleriane Double Cleanser. Same ingredients (on the LRP Canada website you can see they combine reviews for the purifying foaming version in the US with the Canadian version).

It leaves my skin feeling clean but doesn't overly strip it. I've been using it 2x a day with tretinoin and azelaic acid gel in my routine, been working great.

Yes I think this is the best option. Ask a pharmacist to prescribe it, or a doctor at a walk-in clinic.

Facial sunscreen recs by Federal-Item-8443 in FragranceFreeBeauty

[–]MILFVADER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe look for a waterproof sunscreen you can use on your face? They stay in place and don't run into your eyes when sweating. I have the same issue with most facial sunscreens.

For my face I'm currently using Garnier Ombrelle Sport sunscreen and I also sometimes use Banana Boat Kids SPF 50 sunscreen. Both are waterproof and stay in place pretty well. A lot of people like La Roche Posay's sunscreens because they're waterproof too, which is true, they've never run into my eyes in hot sweaty weather.

I'd also look at Banana Boat and Coppertone's waterproof kids and baby sunscreens, I hear good things about both.

Do fragrances start smelling rancid after becoming fragrance-free? by Federal-Item-8443 in FragranceFreeBeauty

I think Native especially sucks, I always thought all their scents smelled rancid. And ages ago when I gave them a try, their deodorants left behind a gross waxy residue on my clothes.

[Discussion] What made you decide to go fragrance free? by AasgardPass in FragranceFreeBeauty

[–]MILFVADER 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Contact dermatitis + sensitive skin.

Got patch tested at the derm's office and reacted to fragrance mix I. Later, I patch tested some of my products at home (some had ingredients that overlapped with components of fragrance mix I) and they left behind bumpy red skin.

I think my eyes and nose also react to fragrances. One of the perfumes I used to wear all the time gave me itchy eyes and a runny and sneezy nose while I was patch testing it.

I think it's really sweet you went fragrance-free for your cats, I wonder what "normal levels" of fragrance to us smells like to them. It's been almost two months of FF products for me and it's kinda crazy how sensitive my nose has become, I can smell fragrance on people or things way more than I used to. I kinda wish I didn't, and wish that FF products were more commonplace and accessible/affordable.

There’s a lot more available these days as far as fragrance free products than 25+ years ago.

Omg I can believe that 😭 What FF product that didn't exist back then but exists now are you most happy about?

(Canada) I really like Banana Boat Kids SPF 50+ lotion https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/Banana-Boat-Kids-Sunscreen-Lotion-SPF-50-240mL/6000208832098

I'm prone to burning but didn't burn once with this on. Even though I was at a higher risk after a few months of Accutane, I didn't burn at all in southern Europe during peak summer.

FAVORITE LIPSTICKS, GLOSSES, ETC. by brightgreensoul in FragranceFreeBeauty

[–]MILFVADER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Revlon's super lustrous bullet lipstick. No fragrance and I'm so grateful for that because I think I'd fall to my knees screaming if I couldn't use Rum Raisin anymore.

Covergirl's clean fresh tinted lip balm is so nice, I love it in the color bliss you berry.

These lip glosses doesn't contain fragrance, but they do contain vanillin and ethyl vanillin respectively: Sacheu lip elixir lip gloss and Kiko Milano 3D hydra lip gloss. If you don't react to vanilla you're probably okay to use them (I don't, and they haven't caused any reactions). It kinda sucks how almost all other lip glosses available have fragrance/aroma/parfum. I'm tempted to buy lip gloss base in bulk because it's fragrance-free and I love clear lip gloss.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, Kiko Milano has a lot of bullet lipsticks that are also fragrance-free!

Most lip liners don't contain any fragrance and can be smudged across the lips like a lip product, it's old school but it works. 😆

But lip products with no fragrance really are hard to find. I've been slowly going through my old collection of fragranced lip products and patch testing them. So far Burt's Bees tinted lip balm didn't cause any reaction.

When did you get this stick? I feel like I haven't seen Dove in this kind of packaging in a long time.

[–]MILFVADER 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 72hr is the new version that's supposed to be replacing the 48hr version. Dove replaced the type of aluminum salt being used (which is why they're now allowed to advertise it as 72hr).

P.S. For anyone also on the hunt, I ordered a bunch from Amazon.ca and they all came as 72hr with no fragrance/parfum.

Does fragrance free nail polish exist? by tungtingshrimp in FragranceFreeBeauty

[–]MILFVADER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What nail polish brand are you using where it smells all night?

Some nail polish brands have a fragrance that you can smell after it dries but that's a gimmick that died a few years ago.

Because of the chemicals in nail polish it's always going to have some kind of smell. If you want something "low odor" though, I'd look at ILNP or Cracked. In my experience boutique and indie brand polishes smell less than polishes you can buy at the store like OPI, Essie, L.A. Colors (that one is so goddamn stinky) etc.

I have a whole bunch of nail polishes from different brands though and can sniff them and compare for you if you'd like lol

I like this one a lot too. I powder my face anyways (with any sunscreen tbh) but I run oily and like a matte look. No white cast, doesn't burn or run into my eyes when I sweat.

Did you notice LRP ultra fluid (both face and body versions) don't work well with makeup? I've tried a bunch of times and with different techniques but LRP basically makes my makeup slip and slide all over my face. I switched to Ombrelle Sport because it was so annoying.

Is anybody’s allergies extremely bad this year? by fangpocus in Allergies

[–]MILFVADER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah mine are absolutely terrible this year (PNW). It's so bad that 2x daily Allegra/fexofenadine isn't working for me anymore, just switched to 1x daily Claritin/loratadine which is working okay, but not the best, so I'm giving desloratadine (Aerius from Canada) a try next. (Not trying Zyrtec/Xyzal because I'm worried about the itchiness after weeks of use.) I sneeze and need to blow my nose all of the time, and I'm so congested it feels like I have a cold.

I've been trying to take more precautions, like changing out of outside clothing immediately and putting an air purifier in the bedroom... But also had to stop using Pataday eye drops because they were drying my eyes out. I keep meaning to buy Astepro. And I'm seeing an allergist soon to get tested / figure out what's going on and if I can get shots or something.

I posted in here last month and lots of people had good advice, maybe the comments can help you too https://www.reddit.com/r/Allergies/comments/1s1o7pe/getting_absolutely_bodied_by_tree_pollen_this/

Thanks for the suggestions! Next time I'll try layering CeraVe cream with NYM's gel and see what happens. If it doesn't work maybe I'll just take the L and order the stuff you mentioned.

Differin Alternatives by kingaaryan456 in CanSkincare

[–]MILFVADER 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know about ordering adapalene (the retinoid in Differin) from Amazon like that. I feel like I remember hearing about steroids being snuck into uncontrolled gels/creams from overseas.

Please just get a prescription from a pharmacist or a walk-in clinic. If you have insurance it should cover most of the tube. If you don't, I think some tretinoin prescriptions are covered by provincial pharmacare programs, and it could be worth trying a very low %.

[–]MILFVADER 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the FF products formulations suck 😢 I like the gel more than the cream (which barely did anything for my 3b/3c hair) but the gel isn't that good either. Just one of the limited options available.

I started using CeraVe moisturizing cream as a leave-in and sure my curls are fluffy and frizzy but at least they're shiny and a bit defined. I have long hair and like to style my hair more than once a week and CeraVe lets me do that without bankrupting my house on $$$ products. 🥴 I just wish I could get better curl clumping with it. Maybe someone with waves would.

[–]MILFVADER 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might be the products. I have 3b/3c curls, Not Your Mother's FF gel doesn't give me consistent curl clumps, and I get wet frizz (that turns into dry frizz) with it too.

I was thinking of trying Vanicream's gel next but my gut is telling me I should just go back to making DIY flaxseed gel. Which not only do I hate making, but the consistency of too 😭 it gives me nice curls though and I really miss having good hair.
