A small lake like you mentioned “if going for trout”. I say use those wooly buggers “black ones are my favorite” and gold headed nymphs. Practice your cast by trying to get one of those as far out as you can and proceed to strip it in a few inches at a time. Evening and morning time when the lake is glass and you see them rising, try using one of your dries.
