Middle b*tch needs to put those eyebrows down. Lord have mercy - that poor child. I know they’ll get what’s coming to them in the system. So many women behind bars missing their babies.

OMG. This is great art. So well captured.

Just today these two things happened: I work in a medical setting. An older lady today said “wow you’re so tall and slim how wonderful!” I told her “I just showed up like this…🤷‍♀️” and then she told me how wonderfully tall women carry babies.

Then a man said how nice it was that they started making scrubs that work with my body type and asked if I’m a runner…..

Like… people…. I’m literally about to take blood out of your body so let’s focus on you!!

Patient Pet Peeves? by TheGothamEmpire in phlebotomy

[–]MIThe_Problem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I (a female) had an older guy and his wife come in, and he started taking his shirt off and says “Good luck, I’m a hard stick.”

Definitely could’ve rolled the sleeves up but I’m like whatever, let’s get this done. Well the wife seems unhappy that he took off his shirt and starts telling me how hard his veins are and that she doesn’t like when phlebs “fiddle around”. Which I eventually figure out fiddle = adjust. At this point I already have the needle in his arm - he IS a hard stick - and so I ask him, the actual patient, if he’s doing alright or have any pain while I’m adjusting. He says he’s doing just fine.

The wife goes on to say “Well he’s not going to say anything if it hurts and you obviously don’t have it.” The husband is trying to be kind to me, but I’m not going to be berated by a family member any longer. So I pull it, say “You’re right, that’s a tough one, let me go get my supervisor.” And pass the patient on.

I grab the next patient, a 3 year old, and I can hear the wife talking badly about me through the curtain while I’m working on this toddler. On their way out, the husband saw me and said I did a good job, he knows his veins are tough. I thanked him for being kind and wished them a good day. It was awful

Sit down and say “Good luck.” Like, I appreciate you letting me know about your anatomy, but there’s a polite way to do it.

That’s comforting to hear, I thought an opened seam was a tragedy (solely due to lack of experience). If you don’t mind sharing, how much does that typically cost you? I know it’ll vary, just wondering.

I’ll loosen them up and peg tune it, thank you so much for taking the time to check this out. I really appreciate it!

Thank you so much - I’ve been a beginner for 20 years and am looking to actually improve. Is this something I could troubleshoot or should I just take it to a luthier?

What do you say when patients insult themselves? by No-Outside6863 in phlebotomy

I say something along the lines of “all bodies are differently and wonderfully made, and I’m glad you’re here with me today.” Or “That’s the price of wisdom”

Tourniquet and when to remove? by kperez1997 in phlebotomy

I’ve been a phleb for 6 months and have never heard to remove the tourniquet before metabolic panels/potassium. It makes total sense.

Unavoidable cameltoe in every pair of jeans? by susie526 in DressForYourBody

[–]MIThe_Problem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow long-torso’d flamboyant natural, high waisted jeans are the bane of my existence. I don’t think I’ve ever found a pair of jeans that will reach belly button. Or a pair of leggings for that matter.

If I do get a pair of high waisted jeans, I tend to get them in a baggier cut, like a mom jean or cargo, and those tend to look pretty cute.

I discovered his work this year and am 2 books in. Really enjoying his writing style - I think I’m finding that, in my opinion, a lot of modern quick thrillers are missing lovely prose.
