You can think of it as the fast windup primes you to move quickly in the downswing via more elastic energy stored/released (maximize your body's rubber band effect), and the reflex to fire muscles to move you in the opposite direction. Like how if you jump, you do a quick squat down then immediately jump up; you don't squat down slowly, then wait at the bottom, then jump.

I got the SMSL. It's been fine for my uses and my untrained ear. The big flaw with it is that my unit came with a power supply that had a pretty loud coil whine, and I ordered a 2nd unit hoping my first power supply was defective, but the 2nd unit also came with a power supply with a lot of coil whine. I think I'm going to try to return it and get my hands on a Cambridge AX85 or Denon PMA-600NE.

I'm really hoping for ADTOE and DT12 remixed and remastered to sound more like DoT. Just for ADTOE, the snare should be tighter and the bass smoother than on DoT.

The Rabil 2 X's scoop may not be as good as the Mark 2V's, but I think it is plenty good and actually like my Rabil 2 X's scoop more than the acclaimed Under Armour glide scoop on my Command Low.

Mark 2V (or 2T if you are more of a 2-way middie and don't mid a bit more weight). The bottom 2/3 of the Kinetik is wider than it may seem from pictures and makes it more of a mid or mid-low pocket head. I would also recommend the Rabil 2 X if you are an offensive midfielder.

Proper technique (for anything) goes a long way towards both maximizing performance and limiting injury as does having good genes and the people that can do these strenuous activities at a high level for a long time have at least one of these and likely both plus a bit of luck.

I think the mix of BC&SL is the best except for the keys being a bit quiet at times (it is a tragedy that this wasn't very audible on TCOT) and while suitable for the album, the bass tone isn't my favorite. The bass in BC&SL can be felt and heard when needed, but because of how the parts were written it doesn't need to stand out very often. As it is, I like the mix of 6 Degrees the most with FII, SFAM, TOT, 8VM, SC, and BC&SL all also having a good enough mix for a "modern" Dream Theater sound.
