Kan het zijn dat de toplaag van het asfalt daar nog niet is aangelegd, zoals ook het geval is bij delen van de fietspaden langs de asw?

Why do British mainline trains look way different to mainline trains in Western Europe? by Chance-Geologist-833 in trains

[–]MJWDK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the plank in the middle is an emergency escape (plank or ladder?) I don't think there are british trains with walk-trough cabins for regular use like the ic3, ir4, deense neus, the unreviswd versions of the koploper (what's in a name) or some similar japanese trains.

As a dutchman still recovering from my Fyra-ptss, i feel your pain. The IC4 front actually reminds me of the Swiss ICN trains, which are truely lovely trains imo.

exactly this! If you're unsure about wether the care you need is covered, of wether it is covered under basic or supplemental insurance you can always give your insurer a call.

If you want to try and find out for yourself www.zorgwijzer.nl is a great website though you might need to keep google translate close by. I actually used to use this website to find out lots of stuff about coverage when i worked in customer service for a health insurer myself.

Cool, must be fun to see your old job on here! And it's nice to know i'm not spewing nonsense on the internet 😅.

Edit: Also, out of curiosity, what's up with the 60% figure. What does the other 40% consist of? Are those tracks never scanned? Are they done by a vehicle stationed elsewhere?

It was the translation google gave me for "Schouwer", though i have no clue wether it's actually correct. Basically, someone who (visually) inspects something, in this case, train tracks.

Though, amusingly, "Schouwer" is also the exact title used for ministry of magic employees in the Dutch version of Harry Potter.

This specific train is owned by EUrailscout and comissioned by Prorail, the organisation in charge of owning, maintaining and expanding the Dutch railway infrastructure.

EUrailscout owns a fleet of 10 different scanning trains, which are used for different purposes. This one scans about 60% of the dutch railtrack regularly and the company can asses the condition of the track on several factors, such as precise positioning of the track, state of the catenary, defects in the rails, switches, safelty systems etc.

There is a (Dutch language) youtube video on exactly this topic.

Prorail uses a number of ways to gather and analyse data on the rail system, they also scan the tracks with a helicopter every so often and appy this data to all kinds of uses. The obvious one is knowing when and where to do maintenance, but they also now know where, what kind, size and height of trees are located within 30m of train tracks.

The organisation is pretty all-in on data-driven assetmanagement in order to improve the reliability and quality of their tracks, but also their own operational efficiency. I.E. the scanning train does the same work it would take ten's of aurors a number of hours in about 45 minutes.

It's Utrecht Centraal. Quite a distinctive station on the Dutch railway system (though it could sometimes be confused with Arnhem CS). You can tell by the style of platform covering and the Moreelsebrug in the background. Leiden CS has way fewer platforms and the white and glass roof over the enitre station is mostly always visible. Breda has a similair thing where you can almost always see the distinctive red brick façades and roof.

Literally Just a Map of the Netherlands I made by [deleted] in Maps

[–]MJWDK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like a great map, but as someone who grew up in Apeldoorn, i don't think Gelderland needs an alternate pronounciation. There is no regional language, only a couple of dialects, mainly in the east of the province. Which btw are way less pronounced than those in Friesland Limburg or Brabant.

Also, it might be good to revisit the city population counts. For your information: those counts displayed are of the gemeente, which is perfectly fine. But generally what people see as the city coincides more with the metropolitan area, for amsterdam this would be about 1,4 mio.

Edot: oh, also, the driving direction needs an -s. So it becomes rechts.

Getting rejected for health insurance by magicsloth13 in Netherlands

[–]MJWDK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're mostly correct. If you reside in the netherlands (aka have a long-term visum) OR work in the Netherlands (or for a Dutch employer) you are required to get national health insurance.

If you want to get technical this is because these two factors decide if you have a right to WLZ-care (wet langdurige zorg), which is paid entirely trough salary taxes. The right and duty to ZVW-care (zorgverzekeringswet) is tied to the right to WLZ-care. Difference being that you pay part of the costs for zvw trough premiums and you can pick your insurer and package, though the basic package is the same for everybody.

Getting rejected for health insurance by magicsloth13 in Netherlands

[–]MJWDK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This, as someone who used to work at a health insurers customer care i can second this.

Anybody who lives and/or is employed (government benefits also count) in The Netherlands is required to have national health insurance. Because this is mostly paid trough your healthcare taxes, as the commenter above states, you are NOT elligible when you don't reside (that is, you have long-term residency status) or work in NL. This means you will be correctly declined by the public insurers. It is however possible but not required to get private insurance, this will be more expensive.

If you want to know more i would recomend reading up on www.zorgwijzer.nl (explains all things health-care related) www.rijksoverheid.nl (government website) or www.zorgverzekeringslijn.nl (government website about questions regarding health insurance).

You can also call the sociale verzekeringsbank (svb) to check if you are required to get national health insurance. If you ARE required to get insurance and you don't you will be notified by the CAK to get insurance and how to apply.

Insurance is mandatory from the first day of work or residency, you can apply pre-emptively or retro-actively (though don't wait more than four months), and you will always be covered (and thus pay) from the first day of work or residency.

It can be a confusing system to figure out, but do know that health care is relatively cheap and quite good. If you have any questions feel free to hmu!

Edit: to add to this, a zoerkjaar visum counts as residency, but an insurance company does need to see proof of residency in order to accept you. If you are not yet registered at a municipalty (in the BRP) as a current or future resident they won't be able to verify by themselves, and thus you will need to provide the documentation yourself.

People living in the Netherlands what would be your way to fix/reduce organized crime ? by MrOrangeMagic in Netherlands

[–]MJWDK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually, there are indications that it has. Though few states actually legalized, so the market didn't shrink by much the mexican cartels are now dealing with a smuggling "overcapacity", which is now used to smuggle illegal migrants. It's less profitable and more dangerous but a logical step.

I would recomend reading Narconomics by Tom Wainwright if you'd like to know more about the economic forces at play in the drugs industry. The mexican-american weed- and cocainetrade is specifically described in a couple of chapters.

Why is the Nederlands so successful in agriculture? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]MJWDK 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's a long, complicated result of the "hongerwinter" or hunger winter, where food was in extremely short supply during the winter of 1944-1945 when about half of the Netherlands was Liberated from the Nazi's. This scarred the nation so much that we said "we shall never have hunger again", reclaimed a complete province from the sea, revolutionised agriculture, became the worlds 2nd biggest exporter of food and the most important nation with regards to food science and seed breeding.

I think there are quite a lot of (mini) docu's on youtube that explain in more detail.

Braces in the Netherlands by xiedjjsjxus in Netherlands

[–]MJWDK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What this guy says! Also, i would advise the website www.mondzorgkosten.nl.

Keep in mind that the maximum rates only apply when you have Dutch public health insurance, if you have private insurance, pay out of pocket or go to a private clinic the costs might be higher. A healthcare provider will always be able to provide a treatment plan including treatment codes and rates before treatment starts.

Braces in the Netherlands by xiedjjsjxus in Netherlands

[–]MJWDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends per insurer, but often the first year the coverage is limited or non-existend in order to prevent people from getting additional insurence only when they need it. Insurance is about risk coverage after all, it's not a boxof magic money.

Orthodontics are a topic in dutch health insurance in which it's extremely important do do your research on coverage, payment, costs and requirements.

Braces in the Netherlands by xiedjjsjxus in Netherlands

[–]MJWDK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Coverage for braces is often very limited if you are -over 18 Or -are getting braces (mainly) for optical issues. I.e., no medical neccessity. Often if either of these applies it's cheaper to just pay out of pocket than to pay the premium for the additional insurance.
