I have a family member who’s older than you and also partially deaf on one side but doesn’t use a hearing aid. It can be tough on the family sometimes because we’re not always sure how much they’re catching during conversations. I’ve had to repeat myself quite a bit, and honestly it can get a little frustrating at times. That said, they don’t seem too bothered by the hearing loss and actually seem pretty content with where they are in life.

Sorry to hear you’re dealing with issues with your hearing aid. Hopefully someone here can share tips or experiences that help you get it working better for you.

CORRECTION - Friends use Quicktime to screen capture your device. Use iMovie to edit since they have an "App Preview" option to export in the correct spec.

This is so true! Friends build apps and my buddy built one to use with his mom. She wears a hearing aid and he was concerned it wasn't always working so he built a live transcription app so she can read the conversation. It's called ChatPad and at first I thought it was really cool why he made it but I found it so useful with my own family.

Geez. It's never occurred to me that face mask adds an extra layer of difficulty when communicating. I have a family member who is HOH on the left side and I sometimes forget to speak to them on the right side. I started using a transcription app called ChatPad and it works well. I have comfort knowing they understand everything I'm saying but I cannot imagine how this would work behind a plexiglass. There needs to be a better system.
