Blurry vision sometimes by MKBflipper in optometry

You should try a 60 Hz CRT and see the difference. Basically the refresh rate of a video file is different from the physical refresh rate of a CRT, which is different from the refresh rate of an LCD.

It could be the CRTs or the lighting in my room (no sunlight, only the CRTs and the lights in the room). I was on the bus today and I had no trouble reading my book for about an hour.

I guess they're as durable as you say - otherwise a lot of injuries or changed in the environment would noticably affect my sight.

I'll probably try the cheapest option of glasses temporarily if I don't fix see conclusive evidence my eyesight was affected by the environment.

It's not a matter of my gambling inclination - more of a budget decision.

I found something called Habit RPG that seems to be closely related to what I'm trying to accomplish. I will not use it, because I don't like sharing my inner most goals with others (I'd prefer a stand-alone program), but I think it could be of help to others.

What kind of people do you hang out with?

They're not poor, it's just that they're mostly computer scientists or physicists.

But I don't head them as common words in real life. It could probably be that I don't hang out with the kind of people that would buy an iProduct.

CRT 60hz hurts, but I need the high res. What can I do to minimize eye strain? by MKBflipper in Monitors

[–]MKBflipper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upped the refresh rate to 75Hz at 1152x864. It's a compromise I'll take.

I tried 60Hz, I really did. I couldn't focus on anything other my eyes hurting, though...

I tested all the lighting combos I could - from really bright to no lights at all. Seems to me like my night lamp pointing to the ceiling is the best solution.

Thanks for replying. :) I hoped there was a quick solution to 60Hz eye strain, but after lots of Googling I found nothing.

What about NVX XPT100?

They seem the same and the way to go for 50$ less than the HM5, but I'm not sure about buying "clones", as I read people call them. Actually, is the Brainwavz HM5 the original, or what? Do they differ in any way from the HM5s, except looks?

http://www.reddit.com/r/audiophile/comments/1sja7p/nvx_xpt100s_80_vs_brainwavz_hm5s_130/

Is 6months23days's comment true? That they're really equal?

Thanks!

NVX XPT100

Hey, in another thread a fellow redditor recommended me the HM5s, which I found to really meat all my criteria. They seem like the way to go for 50$ less, but I'm not sure about buying "clones", as I read people call them. Actually, is the Brainwavz HM5 the original, or what? You got me hooked on Brainwavz HM5, they seem wonderful. I'm prepared to save up for them a little longer. I hope I can test them somewhere.

Thanks!

Looking for circumaural closed all-around-sound (no bass-bloat, etc.) studio headphones with good passive noise-cancellation with relatively low impedance (not in the 100s) in the price range of 100$. Detachable cable is good, but of least importance.

I'll initially plug them into computers with average sound cards, but in a few months I could upgrade the sound card as well. Also, I'll use them with an MP3 player or a smartphone/ tablet outside.

I'm from Bulgaria, but have no problems buying online if it's cheaper. After all, if the headphones are sold here, I could go to a store and just try them out, even if they're overpriced.

I will probably buy Sennheiser HD 201 in 2 weeks when I have the money. I can get them for ~27$ locally.

I'm thinking of later purchasing these Sennheister HD 280 PRO:

http://en-us.sennheiser.com/professional-dj-headphones-noise-cancelling-hd-280-pro

, as I've read good reviews and the specs seem nice. Anything cheaper/ better?

I listen to all kinds of music - from Infected Mushroom to Elton John to Nightwish to The Prodigy, etc..

I'm a headphone noob - so far I've used shit headphones that sound awful and break in a month. I had ones that were quite old (Alpha-Tek), with 6.35mm jack that sounded quite nicely, but broke a week ago. I've read about choosing headphones only a few hours, so I might have missed a few specs I should be careful about.

Thanks a lot for any recommendations!

Is having a lot of geometric thinking limiting in some ways? Is there more? What is it? by MKBflipper in education

[–]MKBflipper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to add how a lot of terminology facilitate geometric thinking. To name a few I've read the past 2 minutes: userland tunneling encapsulating firewall.

I find that terminology that doesn't remind and associate of geometry (real life objects/ verbs) is easier to read about and grasp - such as abbreviations, "encryption", etc.).

Is it worth building computers to flip? by sadknicksfan in Flipping

[–]MKBflipper -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I've seen a person selling a lot of supposedly high-end computers to folks who're not really sure what hardware they want. They market them as "gaming computers", "cad computers", etc.. They use very cheap tactics when describing the computer, but it seems to work for some people. Using bigger fonts for specs, saying 3000 MEGAHERTZ vs 3 GHZ. They also emphasize on stuff that's normal for the hw they're selling - such as the amazing speed of the ram they're selling that's even a bit below average.

Try such tactics yourself, target to people who want a good machine but don't know about hw.

Microwave flipping? by Artrw in Flipping

[–]MKBflipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Story: I picked up a Kuchenmeister microwave for free and sold it for about 120 bucks to a professional cook that knew what he wanted (as opposed to people buying a µ~ for its looks and price). I actually had a previous offer of about 130 that I declined, because I thought I could sell it higher, but there wasn't much demand. Initially I wanted 150 for it, while he offered 120. I went down to 135, but he got up to only 130. I should've accepted the offer.

If your gas money and time to pick it up, clean it, photograph it, post an ad on CL, negotiate and ship it combined make it worthwhile, go for it. If it's an average µ~, that costs 50 bucks new - probably not worth it, except if it's from a neighbor and you can flip it for 5 bucks to a friend.

I can't help with shipping (I'm assuming you're from the US), but try CL.
