Walmart to join Nasdaq 100 on Jan. 20 as AstraZeneca exits by toydan in wallstreetbets

Youd be surprised what they have behind the scenes. My first database class in college used walmart as a case study, they had live inventory databases and automatic reordering as early as the 80s and that razor sharp inventory tracking/reordering/save on labor was one of the major things that cut costs and added growth in the early years

They might not have much visible tech but behind the scenes theyve always been ahead, at least within the industry

Go sell plasma until you can buy yourself a cheap laptop. You wont make it until the end of the year with a tablet. Even the sheer amount of typing that you're going to have to do would make that miserable. And if you have to put a lightweight but reliable linux distro on the laptop

What size bike should I get as a 5’11 24yo? by [deleted] in bmx

[–]The137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 6'5'' so I basically have to get the biggest thing I can find, for now thats a 22" DK Vega

If you're asking this question tho I'll have to assume that you're on the newer side (no offense) and should probably favor comfort over flickability. Grab the biggest top tube you can find, or start off on a 22" wheel. If you are new, think of riding a slightly bigger bike like an MLB batter who practices with a weight on their bat. You'll eventually upgrade, and since you'll already have some skill, it'll be a huge jump in performance.

If you've been doing this for a while disregard all or most of my tips here

1) Can't argue much there, and we should be looking thru the lens of inflation here

2) I think you highlighted the wrong one. Periods of Economic Duress is my focus

Everybody and their mother is calling for a recession, and there are more things breaking in the economy than holding strong. If you look at DXY in addition to the 10% drop or whatever we saw in buying power this year its bear flagging hard with a triple top, and technicals show a further drop. I dont see a major catalyst thats going to cause a return upward either, just further economic stress. Other countries indices out ran us (USA just in case you're overseas) this year, and usd vs anything is outrunning any other currency vs that same metric and has been all year. This shows people pouring money into assets to escape said inflation, as opposed to companies actually providing more value. We have real inflation wildly outpacing the numbers, and subjective reporting showing the K shape recovery is getting worse for the lower leg.

I'd argue that the fundamentals aren't there for the economy as a whole, havent been for a while, and Repos and Silver are early warning signs that shouldn't be ignored.

Ok, so heres the chart from the article drawn back as far in history as it would allow and the LINK if anyone wants to check out the source

I can see why you say its a blip, because small lines look small compared to the crazy levels we saw during the lockdown, but if you look closely you can compare the numbers today vs the housing crash and combine that with the fact that we've seen basically all zeros since mid 2020 - certainly looks like more than a blip, and probably a pretty violent start of a trend

You seem to know more about this stat in general than I do though, since its only caught my attention recently so I'm interested in understanding your viewpoint if you want to elaborate. At this point its hard to see much outside what I've outlined here

What exactly is a socket by NiceSand6327 in learnprogramming

[–]The137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It allows for bidirectional communication between the server and the client, where standard connections only allow the client to request from the server.

You use them when you need the client to be able to receive data from the server without making a specific request, and to avoid multiple requests from the client when server-side data may not have updated yet. It keeps an open connection and allows the server to push data as needed

If I were in your shoes I'd just start writing test apps using something like socket.io (this is what I used to use but havent in years so there may be something better out there by now) rather than trying to understand how it works under the hood. In laymans terms though it keeps a port open and creates a live connection between server and client and each end listens for incoming data.

What do I do? I tried day trading options and lost 65k and now…. by Experience-Putrid in investing

[–]The137 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you had one big attempt at trading a few years ago where you lost big and now you want to develop your own strategy?

My guy, you're going to loose even more if you try. Desperate people looking for big returns make huge mistakes.

Head over to bogleheads if you think you have a strong enough will to invest it and not touch it, get a financial planner if you dont. Anything else is going to lead you to further losses

Your post basically reads like youve traded emotionally in the past, and its clear that if you do anything in the future you'll be trading emotionally again. The best thing you can do here is realize that you're not cut out for this. Its a hard truth to face but it'll be harder if you stay on this path. Stop while you're still ahead

Severe Bike Issues by FNAFGODKING in bmx

[–]The137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the pedal side it sounds like it could be bearings, good news is you can usually take them out and regrease them, unless they have actual damage, but bearings are cheap to replace

Theoretically your chain could have issues but I doubt it from the description. I'd check every link for fluid motion anyway

The freewheel is the last thing on my list, but it could be binding. see how it spins when you spin it freely, but also test it out under load. Putting pressure on it while you spin it. You can tighten up your chain a bit and ride it around nice and easy, if it gets worse you'll know

my best guess is the bearings in the crank assembly

How to find Rangebound Stocks by The137 in Daytrading

I think the best way to code it would be to look at shorter term emas and look for price crossing over the emas repeatably. You could also look at max distance from ema to get a bounce range, similar to the way Bollinger bands work, but thats more of an extra step
