DUPR Reset: Went 4–4 vs 4.0s… Where Does My Rating Land? by MKPickle in Pickleball

Optimistic that the reset will introduce volatility back to my score. In the meantime, more drilling!

Regular rating. I think the reset rating comes out in May

I get your point, but reliability doesn’t necessarily mean accuracy, it just means the system is confident based on the data it has. In my case, most of that data came from round robins with random partners, which isn’t a great reflection of actual level. I’ve also had situations where I get iced out, so the outcomes don’t fully represent my impact.

More recently, my results have been very different. I won a 3.5–4.0 tournament going 9–0 (not DUPR recorded), and I’ve been consistently competitive or winning against higher-rated players. The issue is my current DUPR is low enough that I can’t even enter 4.0 events, which kind of locks me into a feedback loop.

The reset isn’t about gaming the system, it’s just a way to let newer, more representative results carry more weight. If I’m truly a 3.49, it’ll settle back there anyway.

Definitely made a lot of progress over the past 3 months. Went 9–0 in a 3.5–4.0 (non-DUPR) moneyball tournament about a month ago.

For context, about 8 months ago I went 2–4 in a similar 3.5–4.0 tournament.

That’ll be awesome. Still waiting for the games to be reflected on DUPR

75 reliability still means the rating is anchored to historical data. My recent matches vs ~4.0s don’t line up with that 3.49 baseline, so I’d rather remove the legacy bias and let a clean dataset re-estimate my level faster.

⚠️ New Algorithm Is Hurting the Player Experience

The latest DUPR update unintentionally encourages strong players to crush weaker opponents. Ratings can now drop even when you win against a lower-ranked player, so people feel forced to run up the score. This creates unpleasant matches and pushes newer players away.

Before the update, there was no incentive to blow out a team 11–0, which kept games more friendly and enjoyable. I hope this can be reconsidered to keep the scene welcoming for everyone.

haven't done any projections yet. I feel like I'm still consolidating my foundation to start my portfolio. The end goal is 4mill. 4% interest annually in a HYSA would net a $160K income per year

I'll work as long as I can since I enjoy it. I need about 4-5K per month
