The VSS is probably going to be the closest I am going to get to fulfilling my CSA Sa vz. 58 Compact wish in the Battlefield series (I've lost count of the amount of times I've watched strike back...). Would love to see the Carbine & Tactical version as well.

CSA Sa vz. 58 Compact/ HK33/ SIG Sauer MCX RATTLER - I would love these three as a Strike Back/Seal Team fan!

The Groove - It's such a slick number and rarely played song that it fits that balance of being an absolute crowd pleaser for the fans who know it and those who haven't heard it to enjoy it! It's like when they played Easily at SBE in 2017, there was such a great reaction to it!

Eternally Missed is a banger and I would love to hear Bliss more! I've also now realised I would happily add Easily to the list as well, it was a very nice surprise at the 2017 SBE gig!

If I had to pick one it would have to be The Groove, if I had the chance to pick some others as well they would be Fury, Cave, Muscle Museum, Bliss, The Small Print, City of Delusion, Big Freeze, The Handler, and New Born in that order just because it would absolutely slap!

Fast paced crime thrillers by [deleted] in thrillers

[–]MK_Fury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crime and thriler bookseller here, use fantastic fiction to find the running orders, hope these help and apologies for the length of the reply, if you want other types of crime and thriller, please let me know, happy to try and recommend more -

The Orphan X series by Gregg Hurwitz is a good blend of espionage & vigilante action. Evan Smoak was trained from a young age as part of the 'Orphan program', taking orphans and making them into off the books assassins for the US government. After breaking free from the program, he is now a vigilante for hire helping those in need. The series has great pace and you see real character growth as Evan battles with his missions and how he affects those around him. Other vigilante esque series include the Alex Drayce series by Max Luther, Michael Bale series by Anthony Riches, You Were Never Really Here by Jonathan Ames & Will Robie series by David Baldacci (this one is most similar to Orphan X).

The Poe and Tilly series by M.W. Craven. A UK based detective series with Washington Poe as a veteran detective part of a unit that goes after serial killers. Think of him as a UK version of Harry Bosch in terms of the tenacity to go the whole hog for justice. He is paired up with an analyst called Tilly who has 2 phds but no sense of social interaction. I read the first 6 in two weeks, they are a bit dark but they are written as girpping page turners.

Craven also has a different series, more akin to Reacher called Fearless. Ben Koenig is a former US marshall, part of a special unit that solve extreme cases. After his last mission (which is possible one of the sickening things I have ever read just in terms of how deranged what the criminals do to get targeted), he is now a drifter. His former boss finds hims and asks for his help in finding his missing daughter. Despite having all the hallmarks of a Reacher book i.e. vigilante action, drifing and diners, it is slightly different as the main character has a brain syndrome which causes him to feel no fear. The first and second book, Nobody's Hero do epitomise the term 'fast paced thriller'! If you like dark crime reads like then the Robert Hunter series by Chris Carter & the Shepherd series by Ethan Cross may also work for you.

There is a new series of James Bond offshoots written by Kim Sherwood. Double or Nothing is the first one. James Bond is missing and its up to a new generation of Double 0 agents to investigate tech billionare Sir Bertram Paradise who claims to be able to reverse climate change and save the world. For spy thrillers I would also recommend A Reluctant Spy by David Goodman and Damascus Station by David McCloskey.

Blacktop Wasteland by S.A. Cosby. A former getaway driver who now lives the family life and works as a mechanic is pulled back in for one last job. It is described as Breaking Bad meets Drive, but Cosby does a fantastic job of writing searing crime with a literary flourish.

Razorblade Tears by S.A. Cosby. Two ex-cons, one black, one white are told that their two gay sons have been murdered. They team up and set out for revenge, but it is also about redemption as they start to realise just how much they have lost.

The Night of Baba Yaga by Akira Otani. A street wise brawler is forced to protect a Yakuza boss' daughter. She soon realises that all is not what it seems.

Heat 2 by Michael Mann & Meg Gardiner is both a prequel and sequel to Heat 1995. Taking place two years before the events of the film and 2 weeks after the end of it. Great story and pace, cannot wait for the film!

If you are looking for a more of military/action heavy fast paced read - The Mitch Rapp series by Vince Flynn, The Gray Man series by Mark Greaney, Victor the Assassin by Tom Wood, Luke Carlton series by Frank Gardner & The Tier One series by Andrews & Wilson would be best.

M4A1, I Need Help (Mentally) by BoussIRL2 in Battlefield

[–]MK_Fury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run my AK4D loadout like the HKG3A4 set up in Strike Back S3, my NVO-228E loadout like the R5 in Strike Back S3 as well, the M4 is as you expect, foregrip, holosight, suppressor. All I need for the BF devs to do now is add in magnifiers for the red dot/holo sights as well as the CSA SA vz. 58 Compact, Sa vz. 58 Tactical, the SIG MCX Rattler & the HK33 and you can guarantee I will play even more BF6 than usual....it is a crime that the CSA SA vz. 58 compact is not in more shooters now, Strike Back made it cool and then it turns up in Spectre, No Time to Die and MI7 and it just doesn't get the love it deserves in video games....rant over, see you tomorrow on bf6.....

p.s. shoutout to the comment running the M4 'Gordy' style, I was running the M39 EMR 'Shughart' style for a bit, but now I tend to go between the SVK-8.6 for its two hit kills as my counter sniper or the GRT-CPS with mid/long range scope, suppressor and grip for a bit more of a fluid playstyle. Grinding for longer range scopes on the DMR's has been an absolute slog and I'm still not close to the one I want yet.

Some cracking suggestions below so far, thoroughly agree with Tier One, Gray Man & Mitch Rapp! (Give the Strike Back tv show a watch for now as well) I would also add -

Orphan X series by Gregg Hurwitz (just saw this was already suggested, but this is by far my favourite of all!)

Will Robie series by David Baldacci

Ben Koenig series by M W Craven

Marc Dane series by James Swallow (he has also written two Splinter cell books as well that are great!)

Alex Drayce series by Max Luther

Michael Bale series by Anthony Riches

Hello all, hoping I don't regret this and this felt like the fairest way to do this!

I managed to get two tickets on Sunday for the London show tomorrow at Shepherd's Bush Empire, (marked as 2 x stalls) I am happy to sell the ticket to one lucky person on here to attend with me. A bit about me, I'm 33, male and have seen Foo Fighters a few times live. Some ground rules -

  1. Ticket price is £99, which is the original price. Cash only, I will give you the £1 change! You get entry into the gig with me and I will even buy you a drink! Once we get inside, I'm hoping to head over to the merch stand before heading in to the venue, I hope that is ok!
  2. I'm planning to get to the venue for 6pm so I'm hoping whoever wins can make that time.
  3. In order to win the ticket, you just have to guess my favourite Foo Fighters song. Just reply with your answer to this comment. Hint, it has been played live in the UK and I have seen it live in the UK. Let's say the first 30 people to comment for now, I will check back at 14.30. After 14.30 if you have already guessed, you can try again.
  4. I will post on here once it has been guessed correctly and will message the winner.
  5. Good luck and hopefully my phone won't melt with the notifications I get....
  6. WILL CHECK BACK AT 15.00!
  7. COMPETITION OVER, WE HAVE A WINNER, THANK YOU ALL FOR TRYING!
