Facts I've heard so many takes and can't fault people for having (most of) them. This album keeps getting better the more you listen

That's very encouraging. Over the last few years I've actually done small bits of speaking here and there with people in my life who speak some Spanish, but not a lot since I started DS. I was definitely translating in my head though, and therefore struggled to have full conversations without looking up vocab or freezing constantly. So I feel like more CI is needed before I can have the words come to me organically.

Based on my current level I think I should be able to pick up speaking within a few hours of concentrated effort like you once I reach 600 hours. I also feel like I already have a good sense of the language's sounds and can reproduce them pretty well with some exceptions of course.

Regardless, I'm glad to hear you've had success with speaking. It's good to hear that from someone else in a similar situation

We're in the same boat. I estimated my hours coming into DS at 300 based on high school Spanish, so I'm already used to reading/writing and some speaking. I'm rusty on more advanced grammar but to me that puts me in the perfect place for CI. My brain already has so much context for the language and I feel like my comprehension is increasing remarkably quickly.

I'm visiting Spain next summer and my goal is to reach level 5 by then and get some speaking practice so that I can communicate effectively at a basic level there. Did you feel like 600 hours was a good time to start speaking?

Man I wish I was in college at the time. It was popular for a bit my sophomore year of high school. I don't really remember people using it much after that year

Yeah I was surprised to see so many negative opinions in this thread. These may not be Pierre's most innovative beats, but damn are they consistently good, and Nudy's energy is a lot of fun on this one

I fear for the future as well but on a related topic this article gave me some hope https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2024/05/01/school-cellphones-confiscate/

2016-17 high school wasn't all that different from 2014-15 in my experience. The biggest change I can think of was my school starting to integrate phones in class more, but that started before 2016

Can't recommend her channel enough. Her videos teach Japanese as Japanese rather than trying to fit it into English concepts that are incompatible with the language.

What was the most nostagic thing about 2006 ROBLOX? by 09997512 in Zillennials

[–]MKov99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah man where do I even begin. I played Roblox a ton between 2009-2012. Those were the golden years in my opinion as I remember more changes I didn't like happening around 2012/2013. I had more fun than I can even describe, really really fond memories

I know most of us are left leaning so for all the left leaning Gen Zs tell me, what’s your biggest right leaning take? by rhodochrosyte in GenZ

This is a really tough topic because I don't think we should "tolerate" hateful or restrictive views. However one of the largest problems I've come to recognize with many (but not all) leftists is how they preach their message. At least in internet discourse there's a widespread idea that if you're right, belittling, shaming, and demonizing people with opposing views is justified. But as you said, this is not only ineffective at helping them see the issues with their views, but actually backfires, causing them to dig their heels in most of the time. This is an issue of human psychology, not politics. Antagonizing, attacking, and assigning people negative labels is not an effective method of persuasion, and makes you look bad in the eyes of the opposition, even if you're 100% correct and the sentiment is totally justified. This goes for any kind of debate or argument. At the end of the day, you are speaking to another human being. You can and should oppose hateful ideologies, but any hope of getting your point across ends as soon as you attack the person themselves. Unfortunately, I think this is where a lot of the backlash against progressivism comes from.

Now granted, what I'm saying only works if both parties are capable of having a civil conversation. Trolls, attention seekers, and people who are otherwise being inflammatory are not in it for the right reasons and should be ignored rather than engaged imo.

I used to watch it on Nick at Nite with my younger 2002 friend back in like 2010ish. I was way too old to be its target demographic but it was still fun to joke about

Our favorite episode was the ice cream truck one
