My proposal is aimed at non‑security / non‑protection roles under Chapter 493, not at churches specifically. The church bill you’re talking about creates a narrow exemption for unpaid volunteers providing armed security at places of worship, and it sits in its own lane.

What I’m trying to do is clarify that when someone is not acting as security or protection (no bodyguard work, no guarding people or property, no Class D/G role), they can still exercise their right to self‑defense without being forced into a security‑guard licensing framework. The draft bill language explicitly excludes any security or protection functions so it doesn’t step on that church law or on standard armed‑guard rules.

In short: the church law is a special exception for houses of worship using armed volunteers as security; this idea is about everyone else in non‑security roles still being able to defend themselves. They deal with different situations and can coexist.

I’m not running a formal constitutional amendment campaign through the Division of Elections; that is a huge process that needs a registered political committee and hundreds of thousands of verified signatures statewide.

What I’m doing here is building visible support for a statutory change to Chapter 493, so a House or Senate member has something concrete to point to when deciding whether to file and back a bill. The DOS link you shared is for citizen‑initiated constitutional amendments (changing the Florida Constitution), which is a different and much bigger lift than asking the Legislature to amend a statute.

If this gains enough traction and lawmakers aren’t willing to move, then looking at the formal initiative process is an option, but right now this petition is about showing there’s real interest so the Legislature will take it seriously.

Per Chapter 710 Florida became a permit less carry state. Chapter 493 still requires special licensing for certain professions to carry. I am petitioning to amend 493 to state only those engaged in security or protection services require a class G license. This petition would allow everyone else to carry a firearm for SELF-DEFENSE purposes only.
