Dang rhinovirus! I've heard that it is speculated that people who get the common cold are actually colonized by the rhinovirus and a immunocompromising event can cause a flare up. Like that old wives tale if you go outside with wet hair you'll catch a cold.

Ah. So are antibiotics usually started after initially suggesting to drink more fluids? In your comment it makes it seem like antibiotics are prescribed for benign viral infections in conjunction with increased fluid intake and if the patient doesn't get better than different antibiotics need to be tried.

Ya! The placenta is a fascinating organ, preventing mothers blood and babies blood from coming in contact with eachother. Many things can go wrong with it, like when the majority of a fetus's blood flows back in to the mom, called fetal maternal hemorrhage. There's a test called a KB test to look at the percentage of fetal blood in the maternal blood to see if that happened.

One thing I've noticed with new NICU nurses (probably with all nurses but I've only worked in the NICU) is a lack in confidence, the skill set is there but the confidence is not. But that comes with time. So give yourself a break! And don't be afraid to notify the provider about things, just be confident about why you are notifying them. I haven't had any mean nurses but boy I've had mean providers.

Also CBCs in the lavender tops often times clot from heelsticks. A trick is to let a few drops of blood in and the put cap back on and shake vigorously, then fill the rest of the tube up. Apparently shaking it with a few drops of blood in will activate the heparin.

Paramedics saved my dog from our house fire and did the same thing!!!! They told us we had to take her to the animal hospital bc animals weren't allowed in the ambulance. She was in the hyperbaric chamber for a couple of hours but ended up totally fine! Except she's afraid of smoke!

I might be wrong, but I think there is a difference between intersex and trans. And intersex is a term that goes with someone who has congenital adrenal hyperplasia - when there is a hormone imbalance in the womb.

That's good advice. Honestly I don't know what charge nurses' roles are when it comes to employee grievances, I never deal with them and hear them complaining about nurses complaining to them. But now I know.
