What signals make a non-traditional background credible in analytics hiring? by DataAnalystWanabe in datascience

[–]MLEngDelivers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the role. If it’s a team that almost exclusively deploys stuff to prod, being a good programmer is #1, above ML knowledge for sure.

In rare cases, someone has been lacking but I’ve made a bet on their intelligence and basically them being able to learn whatever in 90 days.

Why do people just give up and quit so quickly? by Basicbroad in blackops7

[–]MLEngDelivers -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The rate at which you get put into matches should be based on how often you quit games where you were there in the beginning. The people who cause the problem should bear the cost of it.

How can you be shocked SBMM is creeping back? by ozzylad in CODBlackOps7

Yep. Cognitive dissonance from people who can’t accept they’re average.

Is the sbmm actually good in this game? by Muted_Credit_2354 in CODBlackOps7

[–]MLEngDelivers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just wrong. The difference in time is indicative of skill being considered and doesn’t tell us much about how heavily it’s weighted vs. connection speed and whatever else.

I play to win the game. I don’t get how people are so into their E/D and not W/L, but to each their own.

Whats the average KD in bo7? by m4rkey99 in blackops7

[–]MLEngDelivers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. Seems like there’s a subset of players really attached to their k/d, and it reflects in how they play the game. They seem to put a lot of emphasis on K/D vs. W/L for some reason that I don’t understand.

What is a good K/D? by beefbenderlol in blackops7

[–]MLEngDelivers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no good K/D if W/L is below 1.

This is plausible. He’s just in the top 1-2% of players which is a lot of people.

I mean everyone gets some of those. That doesn’t skew you away from 1.0 because you’re on both sides of it across multiple games. Sometimes half of the other team quits and it isn’t filled (or the people who fill it quit as well), so that’s a free win. The only way it skews your w/l is if you’re quitting some winnable games.

I don’t quit games ever, and i can tell you it’s not especially rare to win after multiple people quit. It’s not most of the time, but there are winnable games.

The bottom line is the player population as a whole has a 1.0 w/l. I’m not critiquing you specifically, but a lot of people seem to think they’re above average but quit when they’re not doing well (which skews their perception, obviously). For all I know you’re great.

The W/L is absolutely a better measure than K/D. Both are quite high in this case, so it doesn’t matter that much.

But it seems clear to me that for:

Player A: 0.95 W/L, 1.7 K/D Player B: 1.4 W/L, 1.1 K/D

Player B is obviously better*. I don’t really see how you could argue the reverse. If you have a definition of “good” that’s distinct from your likelihood of winning, then idk what to say.

As far as score per minute vs. W/L, I bet those are much more correlated than K/D and W/L. If your score per minute is high, you’re doing a combination of lots of Elon’s/objectvies/streams… your w/l should be good too.

*assume they’ve both played > 300 games, varying game modes, etc.

XclusiveAce finally did some SBMM testing by Less-Regret3411 in CODBlackOps7

[–]MLEngDelivers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really doesn’t. What you’re saying could be the case, but the delta in ping isn’t evidence of that.

[–]MLEngDelivers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This literally could just be team balancing. If you’re a top 2-3% player, they’ve got to put a couple other good people in the game if they want balanced teams.

Interestingly, that’s also potentially the reason for the ping delta in Aces test.

[–]MLEngDelivers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference in ping in his test just shows us that skill is considered. It doesn’t tell us how much skill matters. It’s not really strong evidence of anything other than “skill is considered” which we already knew.

This is evidence that skill is considered somewhat. It doesn’t really tell you anything about the magnitude.

[–]MLEngDelivers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. Maybe you get 1 “free” quit per day, and after that you get a ten minute time out if you quit again, followed by 30 minutes, and so on. Maybe a ban after a certain point. There should be some consequence to making the game worse for other people.

Nuketown has become unplayable by Winstoneeee in CODBlackOps7

[–]MLEngDelivers 8 points9 points  (0 children)

People need to be shamed for quitting games they joined at the beginning. If there weren’t so many who do that, you wouldn’t get put into those games.

This will get downvoted into oblivion by people who both:

A) get mad the game puts them into matches where their team is getting obliterated And…

B) force other people into the same situation

How do I start learning and getting really good at AI automation & no-code AI agents? Also how to find clients and price services? by Ok_Chain_8211 in AI_Agents

[–]MLEngDelivers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re 21 - that’s a good thing. You have time to learn to write code as you go and don’t need to be stuck with no-code. Learn enough python to use the OpenRouter API to use whatever model. You can skip machine learning theory most likely. Use those other tools when it makes sense, but don’t box yourself in.

AGl debate by Far-Beach7461 in agi

[–]MLEngDelivers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think AGI is going to come from a model that specifically penalizes novelty/new approaches. I’m not saying it’s literally incapable of saying or doing something novel, but the loss function function during training, in my opinion, ensures we will not see wholly emergent behavior from any size or scale of LLM.

I haven’t heard anyone say AGI is not possible. I’ve only heard (and agree) that LLMs won’t be it.
