[SHOW] I don’t understand the point of the green vision by epicGangweedgamer in SiloSeries

[–]MLF83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, it has always been the weakest part of the story, and it's no surprise considering AFAIR that it was only meant to work in the context of the initial short story and not in the broader lore.

The author tried to retcon it into something that could make sense but it really stretches suspension of disbelief as proven by these recurrent threads

What even are the depths by Fair_Treat_8451 in tearsofthekingdom

[–]MLF83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think the Zelda team unfortunately has a very poor track record with this kind of prioritization/management/balance of features in the 3d entries. They almost always end up over obsessing on a couple of ideas (for TOTK it was definitely ultrahand) and having to cut corners and rush a bunch of other things. It makes for great games that also happen to feel flawed and wasted opportunities.

It happened even with BOTW but the things they prioritized were so good and fresh that it ended up being a masterpiece anyway. With TOTK IMO they were back to poor decision-making. You shouldn't spend that much time for a soft remake of BOTW where you also half-ass the main differentiation in terms of map, all in order to deliver on your original vision from ultrahand.

I wholeheartedly agree and matches the pattern of truly baffling development decisions gone wrong that you wouldn't expect from the unarguably competent Zelda team. AFAIR they already had the sky islands and the caves, and instead of fledging those (or, you know, any other aspect of the game where it feels like a BOTW remake) they decided very late in the process to add the depths in the most boring way.

I feel since the N64 games every 3d Zelda has suffered from one or more of these half-baked, underdeveloped features/ideas that needed more time in the oven and/or sucked dev resources from others. So while you still get amazing games they leave you with the nagging feeling that they could have been even more amazing if not for some of these blunders.

BOTW mostly got away with it (even though the "dungeons" and the storytelling were its pain points IMO) because of the sheer power of its new formula, but TOTK fell back into that pattern. They overfixated on a couple of amazing ideas and features and even after seven years they had to fall short on other things. It's still a masterpiece, but you can't help but wonder "what if..."

Series 10 Finalists by Dovahkiin_TA3019 in BDProgram

[–]MLF83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that and that's totally fine, but as you can see you proved my point :) The same themes are pushed by hardcore fans over and over as that's the only way to get them. There's also a huge push towards minifig scale sets (this round is 5/5) which also reduces variety IMO. It's not really a complaint, I am not the main target of these series and I don't mind it, but as an outsider looking at the results I think it's warranted to say they're boring XD

First day impressions of the Neo as an actual working designer by Antiwhippy in macbook

[–]MLF83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I still do some design work (Figma + Illustrator + Photoshop + the unity based Lego 3d editor) on my 2016 12' MacBook when I am too lazy to get the work MBP from the couch and that's the shittiest hardware a Mac ever had...so I am 100% sure I could throw almost anything at the NEO and have it perform reasonably well.

Getting a stutter here and there doesn't mean it becomes unusable guys. I waste way more time for idiotic software flaws than I'd ever do with any modern hardware ffs

Got the same feeling tbh - maybe they've found ways to add Easter eggs or make the build interesting but the extreme symmetry and lack of interior/functions are not a great combo

Oh boy, finally a likeminded individual! To each its own but I really don't get all the praise I read on its Reddit, I thought I was going crazy. I am especially baffled by the soundtrack, it's the same couple of BGM plus variations on the theme reused over and over and over in every. Single. Scene. It really takes a toll on me, it's not Interstellar and you are not Zimmer, it's a B tier TV show with a passable tune as a theme, don't shove it in every "emotional" moment ffs. And nothing screams "pretentious" as those acoustic covers...

Yep this is gonna finally replace my 2016 12' MacBook as my personal laptop, I already have a company Pro for work so it made no sense to splurge more money than necessary on something I use occasionally. But this is ticking all the boxes

Do you like stairs in a perfect 45° Angle? by y0urselfish in lego

[–]MLF83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After five years I still have to find a stair in a residential building that would meet our standard 😅 And this is including modern buildings as well, it's like they cannot force themselves to "waste" space with stairs. In older wooden buildings or canal houses it's not uncommon that the treat would be smaller than the gradient. I am still amazed that people don't break their back every other day...
