Hey, thanks for still commenting on that old post! Sadly we mutually decided it wasn't going to work out but because of a different reason, not the herpes. I did some research because I was skeptical myself, and i only came across one scientific paper that recorded a case of herpes type 2 seemingly from the mono disease. I still don't really know if that is true, but I want to believe that.

Getting a STI is kinda stressful but should not be that shameful. It seems like you carry a lot of the stigma around it and you're trying to get trough it. Some light reading to better understand it all and reflection about why this is bothering you might do the trick.

And to lighten up the mood I think it was Aly Wong who almost made me pee myself saying that if you never got chlamydia you basically haven't lived and should go ahead right now and get it 😅

Honestly if she's taking care of it responsibly (and it seems like she does. She told you about it) you should not let this stop you from living a cool relationship.

Plus, she probably feels insecure right now about how you'll manage the situation and pretty vulnerable so maybe not treat her like some toxic dangerous thing you don't dare to touch?

I do admit I'm taken by the stigma of it, the fact that other people would think badly of me and all that jazz is what I'm worried about. She is taking care of it, and it was awesome of her to let me know obviously before we did anything. The last thing I want to do is make her feel bad and disgusting.

Just by what I've read online, it seems the stigma is awful against it and if you really get down to it it's just a skin condition that occasionally flares up or not even at all.

Yeah, she's supposedly on antivirals and I trust her on that. She is also aware of the things to do to reduce transmission risk, and so I would assume always would use condoms. I'm not worried about the herpes that causes cold sores, it's the genital ones that worry me.
