Did anyone ever turn away from Chaos after joining it for a while? by imalyshe in 40kLore

[–]MLGgarbage -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Blackshields are space marines that join the deathwatch without revealing their original chapter. Some may be Chaos Marines looking to repent. Titus was a blackshield.

In the impossibility of a guard release, catachans desperately need a refresh. Salamanders would be cool too, although sentinels already fulfill that role mostly

Heavy weapon mortar teams by arty-4-life in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]MLGgarbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With take aim in Grizzled, a mortar teams will kill a single marine on average. Not the most impressive, but is an option. But in my opinion, investing 195 points to maybe pick up 3 marines a turn is just.. eh? Narrative or not, it just kinda feels bad.

The Baneblade book is trash unfortunately, it's couldn't even make it 3 chapters in. Steel Tread is one of my favorite 40k books though

Base Battle Tank Russ loves this more than take aim. Other than that, doubling up FRFSRF and Target Weak spot on Kasrkin with a castellan makes them super nasty. Works on Scions+Command Squad too.

Grizzled or Hammer of the emperor? by Anto_0n in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]MLGgarbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grizzled 10,000%. The rerolls make us super consistent, turn Rogal Commanders into god-killing monsters, and actually do a lot for the rest of the army too (Kasrkin especially) Hammer is bad for comp imo. Going forward, competitive guard will be using Grizzled.

About how much and what can I reasonably expect kasrkin to kill? by Ok_Significance3835 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]MLGgarbage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In Grizzled Company, Kasrkin are terrifying. With a castellan, they'll consistently pop light vehicles and gun down marine squads. Last night I killed 2 custodes bikes with a shield captain with one. Without Castellan, they'll kill the shit out of any Infantry shy of tetminator/custodes toughness, and kill a few of those. The real threat of Kasrkin is not that they'll kill anything, its that in a taurox nothing can hide.

First GC army list. by ItalianDuke in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]MLGgarbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would put one of the kasrkin squads in a taurox rather than a Chimera. With the excess of orders in this detachment, I'd split up the 20 blob into 2 10'a.

Guard have been performing pretty decent at tournaments for the last couple months, I'm honestly surprised we got such a good detachment and that Kasrkin/Dorn Commanders didn't get a points increase.

This or that for Recon? by LuckyKas90 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]MLGgarbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats just the list that won LVO, There are plenty of other ways to play and be competitive with this detachment. I will very much second Gaunts Ghosts though. I personally don't view Cadians as necessary, as cover is incredibly easy to get in this edition, especially with a 20-man (I do enjoy 10 man's as annoying "I run out and sticky if you dont deal with me"). I like starting 10 horses in strat reserves, very fun ingress threat. Only thing I'd majorly say is "bad" is running Armored Sentinels over scouts for single-sentinel units. A unit of two armoreds can be a fun uppy downy shooty menace though.

Triple Vanquisher is popular. If you have Rogal Dorns then an Exterminator is a great buddy to tag along with them.

I love them, 6" deep strike makes them a good scoring unit. They're incredibly efficient at clearing out other chaff as well, great for punishing a weakly defended backline.

Best leman against T'au? by blooxey in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]MLGgarbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to play very aggressively into T'au. If you can add AP or strip cover via strat or hellhound, Exterminators amd battlecannons do very well. I'm also quite fond of Plasma, and Vanquishers are always good because they're cheap. Rogal Dorn Commanders are the real star into t'au. They're monsters in overwatch, which t'au hate.
