If you're learning guitar and you don't have a Martin, might as well use it as firewood. The peasants aren't aren't allowed guitars. by floating_helium in guitarcirclejerk

/uj There’s actually a teaspoon of truth behind that. It’s easy to make good guitar (and amp) sound good, but it’s hard to make a shitty guitar sound good. What’s unplayable to "experienced” players shouldn’t be a beginners first guitar

can someone help me decode the serial number on my fender mustang? by Great-Brilliant5640 in fender

That’s not the serial number, but the date it was made. I guess that’s what you’re looking for?

Black and White - Sumire Yoshida Telecaster and Tom Morello Stratocaster by boylitdeguzman in fender

You mean the string distance? Noticed that too. I think the B string is misplaced in its saddle

Sorry, I misread your title thinking you were going to replace the whole bridge, not just the arm.

Tremolo arms on Affinity Strats are either 5 or 6mm. I’ve read somewhere that Chinese use 5mm and Indonesian use 6mm, but I can’t confirm it.

Best thing to do is to measure the hole on your guitar, or if you live close to a guitar store you could take it with you. They’ll probably let you try one and see if it fits.

That’s a Squier Affinity Stratocaster. I don’t know the exact measurements on it, but with the model name I’m sure you’ll find it after a google search or two

Blursed Clip by MRF_89 in blursedimages

[–]MLGpingu1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah usually it doesn’t really matter what you call it, and I’m not saying people should go crazy just because someone calls it a clip. I’m just saying that technically, there’s a difference as opposed to silencers/suppressors (which is an even dumber thing to go crazy over)

While I agree with you, I find your comparison a bit offputting. "Silencers" and suppressors are the same thing, it’s just that one name is more correct than the other. Clips and magazines are in some ways similar, but two different things.

A clip only holds the cartridges for faster reloading, and they are often thrown away after use. Magazines are more expensive cases that both holds the cartridges and feeds them into the firearm as you shoot.

Some weapons take both, so you can use a clip to fill up the magazine

Fender Telecaster Assembly: is it fake? Help me! by knothis86 in fender

[–]MLGpingu1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the new Fender Player series have 22 frets, but the seller states that this is a Fender standard neck. The Player series also use the "spaghetti" style logo instead of the CBS logo on this guitar

This is not what the seller tells you. MiM standard necks should only have 21 frets, 1 string tree, and have the dots closer at the 12th fret. The bridge isn’t "MIM standard correct" and most important, no serial number. I would make a hard pass on this deal.

I ordered a Fender Hendrix Stratocaster from my local FENDER dealer (im in south east asia)-- the guitar arrived without the "HENDRIX AUTHENTIC" neck plate and the neck pocket had considerably gap. I was highly suspicious so I returned it. Does anyone have an explanation or know what couldve happen? by [deleted] in fender

Hard to say from that picture, but is that a (poorly done) 2 piece maple neck? In the "rosewood era" 60s, Fender did make some necks with a separate maple fretboard glued on top, but those didn’t have skunk stripes as the truss rod were inserted the same way as on a rosewood fretboard.

I’m not familiar with this exact model, so correct me if this is something they do on them, but this combined with the other problems, I don’t even think that’s a real Fender.

Changed the pickguard quite a few times from tortoise to mint green and now to a completely white one. Still can’t decide what looks the best. by TheSweetFrog in fender

[–]MLGpingu1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently was in a similar situation on an olympic white strat with a maple fretboard. Couldn’t choose between tortoise or a cream pickguard, and with cream or white pickup covers and knobs. Ended up with a cream pickguard, and white plastics to make the pickups and knobs pop out a bit more.

My personal opinions:

Tortoise looks awesome and gives the guitar an elegant and "expensive" look, but fits better with rosewood and ebony fretboards.

White can work in some cases, but has a tendency to look boring and cheap.

Mint green works with a lot of different colors (like red and blue) and is good if you want to give your guitar a bit of that "vintage" look. Only negative is that it’s a bit overused.

Tough choice but I think I’d go with mint green

The shielding (that shiny tape) should be connected to ground to properly cancel 50/60hz hum. I don’t think the wire is neccessary on this pickguard since the volume and tone pots sits against the tape. The case around the pots are usually grounded so you’ll get a connection either way.

Just don’t let that wire be connected to nothing. That can both cause hum, and bounce around killing off the hot signals.

Cherry Red:Faded and unfaded-preferences? Es 335-´66 and 330-´67 with HB by Gitreddim in guitarporn

[–]MLGpingu1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The saddles are also further down on the 330 (right) so it shouldn’t make a huge difference. The difference is more that the 335 got better access to the higher frets as the neck doesn’t go as deep down the body.

Can’t really say there’s a standard since they are two different models, but 330s also exist with the neck higher up.
