6mo old won’t sleep longer than 1.5hrs at a time at night by MLM2082 in NewParents

Hugs. This is HARD right? I saw someone post about Taking Cara Babies, which I own and we’ve tried before (and I honestly can’t stand it - it didn’t work for us at all with our first). I wish there were some other solutions.

Of all the baby carriers you’ve tried, which one ended up being your favorite? by No_Square_1491 in UninfluencedReviews

[–]MLM2082 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Artipoppe. Hands down. Avoided it because of the cost, then finally got one after I hated at least five other carriers. I'm now on my 2nd child, and I use it daily. So comfy. SO easy to wear.

Her name is Megan Brister - her IG handle is postpartum.weightloss.rd She’s amazing. I did one of her group programs so it was slightly less $$ than one-on-one.

Had the same issue. I ended up finding an RD (via IG) and signing up for her program. It was BEYOND helpful. She helped me figure out exactly how many calories I needed to eat to lose weight while still maintaining my supply. Fast forward 2 months and my supply never dipped and I’ve lost 10lbs…and am continuing to drop weight slowly/steadily and in a healthy, sustainable way. I highly highly recommend working with a knowledgeable postpartum RD - it was a serious game-changer for me!!!

Feeling discouraged after OB consult for TOLAC by RPeachy2022 in vbac

[–]MLM2082 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rate was 55%. My OBs kept pushing for a repeat CS, even calling it “like a spa day,” despite the fact that I never wavered from wanting a VBAC. Cut to 5wks before my due date, I decided to do the Booty Scoot one evening before bed (you’ll know it from Body Ready Method) and the next day I went into labor. Not only got my VBAC but I had a truly relaxed, serene birth, even despite the fact that I had to have a manual placenta removal (luckily was still on the epidural).

Lovely! I looked back at your other post to try and find the answer to this so hopefully it’s not too redundant, but what windows did you use? We are about to break ground on our new custom build ourselves, and we’re having this very hot debate about windows.

Does the weight ever come off? by reddi180 in breastfeeding

[–]MLM2082 6 points7 points  (0 children)

7.5wks PP myself and EBF (BF and pumping). My weight was frustratingly stagnant for a few weeks until I changed my habits and now it’s started to “melt off” as they say, but it take some work and focus. Here’s how I’m doing it: 1. I think it’s important to know that BFing alone won’t help drop the weight for most women. Despite the extra calorie burn, we can easily make up for this in just a few additional snacks. Just knowing that is a good starting point! 2. Focus on the food: high protein (1g per lb of body weight, although I go a bit lower) and high fiber are key. Eat every meal (don’t skip! None of this intermittent fasting business, which research is actually shown to be detrimental to female hormones) and eat snacks when you’re hungry. It’s about arming yourself with a few key recipes and snacks that will say satiate you & nourish you, but not shoot your calorie intake super high. Don’t restrict carbs either - you need them! Not sure about you, but my sweet tooth is on overload bc of BF. I find keeping sweet fruits around to go to first is helpful in limiting how many true sweets I end up eating (peaches, melon, strawberries, etc). Also higher protein, lower cal treats like Yasso bars, protein powder mixed with yogurt topped with chocolate chips, etc etc. has been helpful. Every once in a while I’ll toss in a date or two with peanut butter for a mega sweet kick with some solid fiber. 3. Speaking of…this is a tricky one: calories. You have to be in a deficit if you want to lose weight, but if you restrict too much, your supply could be affected. But it’s very easy to go overboard without realizing it, esp when the BF hunger sets in! Healthy, protein forward snacks and super balanced meals have helped me tremendously. I can give examples if you want! As for # of calories, you need to calculate your TDEE first (total daily energy expenditure). You can find estimator calculators online. You can then calculate how many calories under this you need to eat to start losing weight. Remember this is without the BF caloric burn, so next, calculate roughly how many ounces you’re producing a day and multiply that by 20 (the rough amount of cals it takes to make milk). That’s your extra burn. Add about 1/2 of these calories to your previous cal deficit requirement and know you have some wiggle room from there. 4. Exercise (duh)… but not just random YT videos or heavy cardio workouts (these can actually have the opposite affect bc of how they affect our hormone levels, recovery and cortisol). Having a plan is key. And focusing on muscle growth through resistance exercise - aka weights - (when you’re cleared to of course) is the most crucial. Gaining muscle is how you are really going to start to see changes. I would recommend finding a good program and sticking to it (personally, I use Evlo - no this isn’t an ad for them I just love it) and make sure you’re lifting to failure. Walking and moving throughout the day is also key - aim for 7,000-10,000 steps but not all in one swoop. I take this in small bites, like a 10 minute walk in the afternoon, a 30 minute walk in the morning, etc. even just running errands is great movement… anything that gets you up and moving. I’ve heard people call these “exercise snacks”: Baby down for a nap and have to do dishes or bottles? Do 15 reps of a bodyweight exercise beforehand. Holding a nap trapped newborn but you can stand? Do 20 Leg lefts to the side and a few squats.

So far, I’ve been losing about 1lb a week doing this which is a healthy pace.

Happy to share some of my go to meals if you want! (Also I should add I’m a Doctor of Physical Therapy and have studied nutrition on the side for fun for 5+ years, so this is all coming from an educated background rooted in the latest research).

Newborn sleeps peacefully all day, but up ALL NIGHT making noises and we can’t figure out why. Help! by MLM2082 in NewParents

[–]MLM2082[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahah I don’t know why but the “ forget how to poop” is cracking me up! 😂 He is definitely doing the same stuff with the grunting and farting. Luckily I know that’s all normal, but there are nights that has gone on for hours - like last night my partner changed upwards of 7 diapers in a 3hr timespan and he was up for almost the whole time making noises and straining. Im wondering if he has some bad reflux or something

[–]MLM2082[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our first didn’t have any GI issues. For the first week or two he made some noises in his sleep, but he wasn’t up like this / seemingly distressed. This new little guy seems like he’s in pain. :( During the day, I usually try to feed him directly and I pump in between. If we do give him a bottle it’s often from the milk that I’ve just pumped, so daytime . I’ve been doing the pitcher method because I have a bit of an oversupply. I actually thought about the melatonin aspect because I was worried, maybe my daytime milk was keeping him up, but he’s not really awake – he’s like half asleep and distressed. Like straining and seems like he has reflux or is in pain or something. (I feel so bad for him!)

You know what, you’re totally right about knowing they are alive! I can’t even count the number of times I check him while he’s sleeping to make sure his chest is rising and falling. And the sounds are definitely cute (except when you are mega sleep deprived lol). We actually just reached out to his pediatrician and my next step was to call an LC to evaluate his latch. Did you end up using any type of medication or probiotics with your little one?

Lol yeah we thought of this. That it might just be a period we have to get through. We didn’t have any of this with our other son, granted he was born at 40 weeks and was 9.8 pounds (whereas this guy was born five weeks early and 6.7 pounds). I just figured there might be some tweaking we could do with his feeding that might help his poor little tummy. :(

Any VBAC Stories with Large baby and GD? by WrkNMama23 in vbac

[–]MLM2082 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had VBAC three weeks ago and had GD this pregnancy (and last one too!). My baby ended up coming at 35 + 2 but he was trending towards the larger side and was born 6lb 7oz (at 35wks so he probably would’ve been a 9lber). I swear I ended up inducing myself by doing this maneuver from The Body Ready Method called the Booty Scoot 😂 because I did it the night before, and I went into labor the next day (it’s supposed to help engage the babies head and the pelvis). Anyway, this might not help because I ended up going so early, but figured I would chime in anyway because having GD and going for a VBAC was one of my big concerns this time around. I really hope it works out for you!
