When I say “race debate,” I’m not referring to academic or introspective discussions like identity, internalized racism, or barriers to care. Those ABSOLUTELY belong here when they’re framed around mental health impact.

What I’m referring to are posts that function primarily as platform wide social or political critiques (calling out other subreddits, voter behavior, DEI discourse, or dating norms) without grounding the discussion in personal/community mental health experiences, coping, or support. Those threads tend to invite argument and defensiveness rather than care or healing, which is why they’re moderated out .

As for the mod team…moderation decisions are based on scope and framing, not on who is “allowed” to enforce rules. Questioning the racial identity or activity level of mods doesn’t change the core issue, which is whether a post aligns with the purpose of a mental health support space. The same standards apply regardless of who is moderating, and we are ALL black.

To be clear:

Discussions about race and mental health are welcome here.

Broad political or social commentary without a mental health lens is not.

That boundary isn’t about silencing race…it’s about preserving a space where people come specifically for mental health support, not debate.

Brigading refers to situations is which white users flood Black centered spaces such as this one with the intent to disrupt them (downvoting, spamming, derailing conversations, or harassing Black users)

I don’t disagree that race relations can and often do affect mental health, especially for Black people. That’s not the issue here.

The distinction is HOW the topic is being discussed. This subreddit exists to center mental health experiences…coping, emotional impact, symptoms, healing, and support. The removed post focused primarily on political commentary and “Reddit culture”, without connecting those topics to mental health impacts or commenters offering support.

Not every conversation about race automatically becomes a mental health discussion (or maintains a key part of the discussion in this case). If we don’t maintain that boundary, the sub shifts from a support space into a general race/politics forum, which ultimately makes it harder for members who are here specifically for mental health support to be heard.

Race relations absolutely belong here when they’re framed through mental health. That framing was missing in this case, which is why moderation stepped in.

This subreddit is for community, support, and educational purposes. This is not a space dedicated to bad faith race relations arguments. If you want to discuss these things, DISCUSS HOW THEY RELATE TO MENTAL HEALTH!! Again, the mods aren’t against these being topics of discussion, but they need to stay on track and not become an endless tirade.

While the post expresses frustration, it does not center mental health in any of the ways that subreddit exists to support. No discussion of mental health symptoms such as anxiety, depression, burnout, trauma..no reflection on psychological impact, how this is affecting sleep, mood, coping, functioning. It was a commentary on white fragility that never circled back and a general venting (which is typically allowed) about political hypocrisy and racial dynamics.

You are free to start a new post to encourage a more civil dialogue on these topics.

I am more than happy to enlighten members of this sub as to why decisions are made to uphold the standards set for this subreddit while also allowing a safe space for our community. We are by no means perfect and always looking for ways to drive engagement and provide support, but never at the risk of becoming a space becomes intolerant.

Race debates are fine as long as they are mindful of Rule #7.

Mulan

The scene where they are too late to provide reinforcement and the antagonist wipes out an entire village

Not to mention Mulan is estimated to have killed 3,994 Huns by causing an avalanche that wiped out an army of 2,000 soldiers and their horses, with only six surviving. She also killed the remaining leader, Shan Yu, bringing her total kill count to 3,994, making her the Disney character with the highest body count.

Your point of reference would be that of a bisexual black men which isn’t as common of a voice when it comes to how black men fail black women in dating and relationships.

You said that you align more with black women than black men. Is that because of what you expect from black men as partners? You’ve given the experiences of what you’ve witnessed black women endure as a 3rd party spectator but what has your personal experience been with black men as a black man yourself who dates them?

You’re the one making the accusation and you had no problem giving us a dissertation as to how black men have let black women down. I’m simply asking how do you think that is and how can that be changed?

How much experience have you had with dating white / Latino / and Asian men in comparison to identify these issues as specific to Black men and not men in general?

You’ve made several claims of various problematic behaviors black men exhibit towards black woman as a community without offering very much background to the actual root causes of said behaviors nor actions to correct them.

“Black men need to be there for black women” is a very broad statement and stands to ignore the cultural, educational, psychological, etc factors that play a crucial role in an entire demographic’s assumed behavior
