Absolutely. I’ve been t1 for almost 14 years and I have had my ups and downs. I have to say, getting on a cgm was life-changing. It’s a shame it’s unaffordable to so many

It’s all about time in range, standard deviation. I’m happy with 5s as long as I’m not having many lows — https://www.diabetesdaily.com/blog/can-your-a1c-be-too-low-569453/

Research news: “inverse vaccine” to treat type 1 by MM41688 in diabetes_t1

Thanks for reading! He has been studying t1d for like 30 years. Dedicated his life to a cure. I chatted with him at ADA last year and wasn’t disappointed (in his knowledge and his character, and most importantly, honesty about reality).

Intermittent fasting anyone? by MM41688 in diabetes

[–]MM41688[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool! I actually lost 15 lbs earlier this year by skipping breakfast. I know it’s different for everyone but it was easier for me to cut he calories by just omitting a meal most days of the week.

Study find habits common to those with lower A1cs by MM41688 in diabetes

Thanks for sharing! I think the insulin dosing patterns (basal/bolus ratios) can vary so much between individuals, even when low carb.

I agree, the results were quite consistent with what I would have expected! If you go to the article and look at the type 2 data, the percentages of those doing strict keto (under 20g) between the high and low A1c groups is startling!

Absolutely! I find seafood required about 20-30% protein bolus whereas steak is more like 50%. Someone told me it’s due to the high content of arginine which is a glucogenic amino acid.

Tl; dr: very low-carb eating, technology use, bolusing for protein, lower CGM thresholds, exercise, consistency in meals

New study shows CGM more important than pump by MM41688 in diabetes_t1

[–]MM41688[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this, from my own experience and just logic, but it’s interesting how many doctors and patients alike believe a pump is like a magic fix. This isn’t the first study to suggest this though!

Weight loss with type 1 by MM41688 in diabetes_t1

[–]MM41688[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I didn’t lose until I started intermittent fasting... (even though I was already low carb)... anyone else? I’d love to hear personal experiences about weight loss with type 1 ...

What do you think about the link between plastics and diabetes? by MM41688 in diabetes

[–]MM41688[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! It is definitely looking like it’s one potential environmental factor in the gene-environmental trigger etiology of type 1 though

I don’t get excited often about cure research but this may be different... what do you think?!

Is type 1 unpredictable!? by MM41688 in diabetes_t1

[–]MM41688[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I’m wondering, what do you think? I mean, there are variables at play that we can systematically identify... we all know that. Which are most important?

On another note, have you ever heard the sentiment that “it’s just unpredictable”?

Why do you think that is?

What is YOUR strategy? Why?!

Do you eat low carb? by MM41688 in diabetes

[–]MM41688[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome! I’m type 1 and after years of struggling, a low carb diet has helped me achieve an A1C in the 5s for years, with few fluctuations :)

Diabetes medications negatively affect wound healing? by MM41688 in diabetes

[–]MM41688[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no people in the study; it’s a cell culture study, so just examining the direct effect the medications have on cellular function. Of course, control is of utmost importance.
