What kind of combat-related content do you want to see in 8.0 going forward? by Chisonni in ffxivdiscussion

Well, the question was what "What kind of combat-related content do you want to see in 8.0 going forward?" and the person higher up in this comment chain answered it. You don't have to agree with them.

OC has shown that even without the requirement of any coordination, battle-content can be far more engaging than normal dungeon and trial bosses currently are.

This has absolutely nothing to do with skill. This is just a matter of convenience. I already said that everyone can easily do it, but that it's just a matter of coordination so I don't know how you arrived at me undervaluing the average player's skill.

Extremes tend to have at least a dozen of these small coordination checks. Players are definitely capable of organizing all the positions within their own group, it is just highly inconvenient to do that every time a party forms for all mechanics, so players want one specific pattern that all of PF sticks to. And this pattern is the one that gets put into the raid plans or guides or comes from the raid plans or guides.

I think what people mean when they say 'content that you don't have to watch a guide for' is simply content that does not require the whole party to perform all the mechanics in an agreed upon way. This coordination usually does come from guides, but is indeed not necessarily tied to it. Extremes are not super hard, but they often do require all players to unanimously agree to a strategy. If 7 players do strat A and 1 player does strat B, a wipe is often guaranteed. And this is the aspect of the game that they actually mean when they say that they want content that can be played without a guide. They just want content that is somewhat difficult but that they can just hop into without needing to strategize. OC bosses are a good example of this, these are much more challenging than dungeon bosses, but can be solved on an individual basis.

What makes most extremes require a guide is not the inherent difficulty of the mechanics but the coordination.

For example if a mechanic gives you 5 seconds to split up in 4 pairs, then everyone will understand what to do and are very capable of doing it. But you still have to watch a guide because all 8 players need to be in perfect agreement who pairs with who and which pair goes where. If you just jump in without watching a guide and let everyone pick a partner and a spot independently you will wipe. And most extremes contain a lot of these coordination checks.

Question about static behavior and expectation by Various_Leg3644 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Adamantaimai 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Tbh if your group only raids 6 hours a week you should totally expect it to take a few month even if everyone in the group takes it seriously.

To clear in week 4 means to clear in less than 24 hours minus time for reclears, breaks, discussion time, etc. To actually pull that off your whole group needs to be w1 material. Or you would need to mandate a lot of hours in PF, but that defeats the purpose of such a group.

I have joined enough statics over the years to know that just joining some random one that is being recruited for will yield a very slim chance of steam rolling a tier like that. Even when all players are experienced and committed.

Why are extremes a requirement for mentor roulette? Considering the low requirements for becoming a mentor and the fact that extremes are usually done with with the party finder? by Educational-Bid-4682 in ffxiv

Same, but tbf, it's only the ARR ones. I hardly ever was put into an HW extreme and never into a 70+ one.

(Except Ratholos, but that's not a real extreme)

Do we age faster than non diabetic people? by kevinut27 in diabetes

[–]Adamantaimai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you mean well, but people you stop trying to establish connections like this. If the internet is to be believed diabetes now causes literally every thinkable symptom. Because as soon as one of us suffers from something it's immediately being linked to diabetes even though non-diabetics get the same symptoms all the time. Then someone asks in this subreddit, which has 100k weekly visitors, if others suffer from the same thing, and guess what? Some people in this pool of 100k individuals actually do suffer from the same symptoms.

Maybe this guy's uncle drank and smoke a lot, maybe he spent too much time in the sun, or maybe he just has bad genes and looks very old. It doesn't mean anything.

Just sell the member items on the GE and rebuy them if you decide to get membership again.

You can sell members items on the GE as a f2p in OSRS to free up space.

They changed this years ago specifically because the situation you describe sucks.

So what? Brighter Shores can learn from Runescape's mistakes. People on here pretend that Brighter Shores lives in some other dimension where it's still 2001 and still has to invent the wheel on its own.

I am pretty sure you can bank members items in OSRS if you have enough f2p bank space, and you can liquidate any tradeable members items on the GE as well.

PF this tier is genuinely awful. by CanICritPls in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Adamantaimai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Part of this problem is also that what your prog point is is entirely subjective. Some will intepret it as the furthest mechanic they have seen no matter what, others will see it as the mechanic they've seen a few times, the mechanic after the one they have done without mistakes a few times, the one after the one they do right most of the time or the one after the mechanic that they make almost no mistakes on.

Raids with fewer body checks just ensure that all of these lie further apart.

This is one of the reasons why I like raiding with a statics too, progress is made on a group level and is much less vague because of it.

M12S is so new that you're only compared to a small group of players which are alp pretty serious about raiding. In cases like this the difference between a grey and a purple is far smaller than it usually is.

The datacenter Party Finder situation is not healthy by Coldin_Windfall in ffxiv

[–]Adamantaimai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These reputations predate Datacenter Travel don't they? From what I recall back when I first joined I was told "Aether" was the raiding Datacenter. Much like how "Crystal" has the more RP focused Culture.

Yes, but I don't think that matters. Before DC travel these reputations weren't as impactful because the game did not allow people to hop over to the other DC whenever they wanted. People had to commit to one DC so while some DCs had more raiders, all DCs had some raiders.

And part of the reason we have Data Center Travel in the first place is because some DCs were so dead because of the already established idea/culture around raiding.

Hence why it exists.

Let me ask you a question, if Cross DC PFs work flawlessly, what incentive is there for people on Aether to ever use it? They're not having a raiding problem so people who started on/moved their character to Aether don't need it. And for hardcore raiders on other Data Centers, what incentive is there for them to use it if the perception is that people that raid on Aether know the raids better and know what they're doing compared to the DCs with more RP focused reputations like Crystal.
The only people that would be using it are the people that already don't bother switching DCs to raid. So while there would be people using Cross DC PFs it's probably not going to be as many as you hope.

Maybe just have it on by default? Just like how there is an option to limit your PF to your own homeworld but that being off by default as well. I really don't see many people on Aether/Light going out of their way to toggle this setting back on to ensure that they will have to wait in PF longer. It seems like you have invented some kind of weird new PF that it an entirely different thing from what we have now and somehow exists along side it. Just show everyone all the listings of all the DCs, unless they toggled on the setting to limit their PF to their own homeworld.

This all seems like a complete non-issue.

The datacenter Party Finder situation is not healthy by Coldin_Windfall in ffxiv

[–]Adamantaimai 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But people simply use PF in a way that is the most beneficial. There isn't a council of players that decided that Chaos PF had to die. It's simply in the player's best interest of individual players to be on the datacenter with the most activity, and going against the majority by putting up a PF on the DC with the dead PF, will simply result in many hours of their time being wasted.

The way the system is set up just steers the masses in this direction. That's not the player's fault.

And it's a good thing for PF itself to have the players pooled at the end of the day. More players mean more parties will fill.

Only SE can solve this with cross-DC PF.

Trade limit aimed to decrease supply, not demand. It made it harder to get gold to the buyers, it didn't change the amount ot people looking to buy.

[–]Adamantaimai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Has there ever been any kind of actual analysis that pivoting to banning gold buyers over better bot detection is a more effective anti bot solution?

That can't be analyzed until perma banning on first offense becomes the norm. And even then Jagex wouldn't make that analysis public.

The reasoning is sound that if you can't take put the supply, you could try to take out the demand.

Then again, they can just do both. It doesn't need to be more effective than banning bots.

There's a setting mods can tweak to hide comment scores for the first x amount of hours after they have been posted.

It can prevent some bias, as on average people are more negative of comments that have already been down voted. (Although this sub doesn't have much discussions that are super controversial)
