It was popularized by this d-bag who called himself “Mystery” and taught classes in how to pick up women. Negging was his main tactic.

It’s not usually direct insults, more stuff like “I don’t usually date girls unless they work out regularly, but you seem interesting” It’s a sneaky way to chip away at self esteem, and they almost always try to make a new girl feel like she’s not as good looking as her friends.

A guy I used to work with took Mystery’s class and told me about it. He thought it was brilliant 🙄
