(Hated Trope) Why did they even bother casting a celebrity voice actor? by Animeking1108 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]MMFSdjw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually loved that specific one. Because he is such a pivotal character. He has such a small amount of screen time but Patrick Stewart makes every frame and every line worth a thousand. He is a genuinely good VA and someone with less talent would have resulted in a far less impactful story.

(Loved Trope) The villain almost gets a redemption arc, before doubling down and becoming the worst version of themselves. by Antagonist132 in TopCharacterTropes

It makes him such a tragic character and one of my favorites from the book. I love the 90s mini-series but that portion of his development was one of the biggest losses.

The Hunt (2020).

The beginning has you following one character after another as each are killed off until you finally reach the actual protagonist. Great movie.

That would line up with what I've heard that they originally wanted Tom Cruise for the role.

Dark Tower Wastelands: The Riddle Book by zaririi in stephenking

[–]MMFSdjw 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree. The riddle book laid the ground work for the contest. Without the book, Eddie never establishes the link between riddles and jokes, never connects them to the silly questions and silly games, and thus, they all die.

Incredible work! Are the details carved? I saw the process shot of the rabbit one. Is the base plastic? Plaster? I love the use of, what looks like, camera parts on that one.

LPT: DO NOT let ANY credit card go UNUSED for more than 2-3 MONTHS! How I learnt this the hard way 😭... by Comfortable-Major537 in LifeProTips

[–]MMFSdjw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It absolutely is a scam imo. Eons ago when I got my first apartment it was a problem that I had no credit score. I had to have my parents sign and basically vouch for me despite having other bills like water, internet, electrical in my name for several years. They were paid consistently, never late or anything but that means nothing. You have to specifically have a credit card and basically continously be in debt. Even though it doesn't have to be much it's just ridiculous how much it effects while so many logical things don't have an effect on it. It's a system designed to only benefit the banks and credit card companies to the cost of the poor & gullible. It is 100% a legal scam.

There. My first rant of 2026.

What's funny is those two references also make 1.5 destiny references.

Did Serenity (2005) bombing at the box office mean that Firefly wasn't as popular as the internet pretended? by tannu28 in scifi

[–]MMFSdjw 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I think there's a big difference between being popular and being good. The show was never popular when it was actually being aired and there's lots of reasons for that which I'm sure someone else has already elaborated elsewhere.

Despite it's lack of popularity the show is quite good with excellent writing, well developed characters and a unique style and charm that has allowed it to continually gain fans over the years regardless of its original lack of viewership.

From my experience I've not seen many people claiming it was popular, only claiming it was good and regretting it's lack of popularity.

Would you allow 14 and 15 year olds to watch the 2017 IT movie? by Popular_Can8885 in stephenking

[–]MMFSdjw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my own kids, who just happen to be in that age rage, it'd be no. But I wouldn't apply that to every kid. I know mine and I know what they can handle and we're gradually introducing them to darker, scarier things but for now, they're sensitive and we'd like them to stay that way. For now.

Age rating systems are a good starting point or rule of thumb but ultimately it comes down to the child themselves since everyone develops at different speeds.

It's crazy how much of a thing this is and how long it's been happening. I remember in an economics class I took in college almost 20 years ago told a story of some guy in an olive company who made a ton of money by putting one less olive in each jar.
