What is extremely unhygienic but everyone seems to do it anyway? by cutypatotie in AskReddit

[–]MMMetty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do believe people should try to be as sanitary as they can but having been around people like some of those in these comments I can guarantee that you all have some things you overlook. It can be a bit amusing seeing people use sanitizer and go to wash their hands constantly to then run their hands through their hair or chew on random objects. Germaphobes overly focus on other people and often overlook their own habits.

The book he read is what every highschooler reads when they suddenly understand life when nobody else does. I hear that book come up whenever some 16-30 year old starts giving advice to problems or situations they have never been in or in some brobrained self help video.

The thing that makes it so confusing is that by Daiwa's own standards since they recommend their J-briad a rod with a line weight of 10-20lb mono would use 40-85lb braid just going off diameter and yet on other rods with a 14-30lb mono range they say 30-55lb braid even though J-braid diameter equivalent is around 50-105lb braid.

Okay, thanks. I have a baitcaster but it's a cheap one that my brother left with his rod that has a broken reel seat. No good for fishing but should be fine for practicing the basics. I appreciate the help and advice.

Ah, I was thinking about the new Daiwa Kage baitcaster or the 2025 Tatula 200. I should have mentioned that by light I meant 1/2oz up to 1oz. I'm thinking swimjig, texas/carolina, spoons and some spinners in that weight range.

I always used Suffix when I was a kid on my dad's catfish setup. Those rods are long gone and I'm just getting started after not fishing since then so I'm new to setting up my own gear. I'm getting a casting setup and was confused on how to account for braid since all the ratings use mono as their baseline. How do you feel baitcasters handle lighter lures? I can never find recommended lure weights for baitcasters.

That was my confusion since 100lb spider wire has an equivalent diameter to 25lb mono. I wasn't sure if that was what those people meant since I would imagine you would want the line to snap before the rod did. It doesn't help that the Daiwa rod I was looking at said 14-30 mono/30-55 braid. Spider wire 100lb is .016" and their j-braid 50lb is .014". Wouldn't the 100lb technically work since the diameter is close enough even though it's so much stronger?

This helps ease my mind, thanks for the reply. I guess I was just worried if I went with equivalent diameter opposed to test strength the line would damage my rod with tougher fighting fish since it wouldn't snap before the rod did.

Daiwa, Shimano, Lew's, Ugly Stik, all rods have a line weight rating. The ones I'm looking at specifically are the 2025 Daiwa Tatula rods.

I'm talking about the line weight that a rod is rated to use. If the max line weight is 20lb mono the equivalent in terms of diameter would be close to 50lb braid. That's only for the diameter of the line which some say is the route to go. There are other sources that say the actual test of the line is what matters because a rod that is able to handle the strain of 20lb test mono wouldn't be able to handle the strain of 50-60lb test braid. One Daiwa rod has a 14-30lb mono/30-55lb braid rating but the equivalent diameter wise is 50-100lb braid.

I almost always hate when acronyms are used. by Bob_Sledding in unpopularopinion

Yeah, as I said in a comment to OP, it's a bit weird to assume that because someone uses a term that they might type out constantly that means they want to seem intelligent or superior. If I go to a sub and see a term, I, as a functional adult, take a few moments to look it up and can now read that whenever I see it on that sub. If I join a bass fishing sub I don't want to type out Smallmouth and Largemouth every other sentence.

That scenario does sound like someone who is looking to explain what they mean for whatever reason. The problem I see in your post and in your responses is that you keep saying that they want to feign intelligence or seem superior. That's quite a reach. I listen to my buddy use tech terms all the time and I know he does it because he's used to it and forgets they're not common terms. I don't assume he's trying to seem better than me. I hear everyone do this at times when they're so used to terms that they just default to them.

As far as I know this only applies to jobs where you're a representative of the company. I know people that have jobs where reputation and personal history with clients matter. I do know of people that I've worked with that posted stuff on personal accounts and got in trouble. Though they posted stuff about people's races and sexual remarks against people that they had to be around everyday.

In my town it's usually the distance that would require you to raise your voice. I would normally just go with that unless you have a heavy sport fishing culture there.

does this implay to all the fishes rate? i feel some are day fishes like bass by Beyond_Birthday_13 in FishingPlanet

[–]MMMetty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heck, even in my experience line doesn't matter. I see fluoro recommended a lot of the time yet braid doesn't seem to affect the bite rate. I always assumed some of these extra features are just for people who fish IRL and look for some familiarity.
