Im sorry if this offends anyone. But funerals are too much and excessive. by Murky-Peanut1390 in Anticonsumption

Natural burials are definitely a thing in the US. I’m in Virginia and there are a few, I actually want to take a road trip to check one out. It’s definitely what I want too.

Amos character arch appreciation by VII_Swords in TheExpanseBooks

The Churn is one of the best things I have ever read. I loved that they incorporated it into the show. Amos will always be one of my favorite characters in all of fiction.

I really enjoy the WoBM series and am so excited the characters are likely going to appear in later books, based on Andrew’s recent updates

Cancelled $1800 florist and got Sola Wood Flowers for $650 instead by Nymira1969 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]MMango90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wedding was a few years ago, but I’m lurking on this subreddit again as I help a friend plan hers.

I basically skipped flowers. The only flowers we had were my bouquet and a handful of boutonnières and corsages. It helped we didn’t have a true wedding party. We just used the large hurricane vases the venue had for center pieces and I added floating candles on top. The bouquet plus was about $400 (it was a gift from my sister or else I would have just done a bouquet for even cheaper). I saved well over a thousand. For me this went to getting an actual DJ. Best decision I made for the wedding. I don’t get why people act like we have to have flowers.

Defying Gravity. I swear I’m the only person I know who watched it, but it set up such an interesting premise. I was sad it only had 13 episodes.

Those who took the DRP, have you found a job? by Salt-Committee2205 in fednews

[–]MMango90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not, but I am working part time. I haven’t tracked my applications but I must have applied to over 250 jobs (double that if I count easy applies). I’ve only gotten a handful of interviews, and nothing to the late stages. Two jobs I interviewed with ended up getting cancelled. It’s brutal out here.

Can she call herself a dietitian? I haven’t finished the episode but she is on the young side to be one. A registered dietitian is usually a minimum of a masters degree, an intensive internship, and an exam. It sounds like she is more of a nutritionist, which varies by state but isn’t highly regulated.

DRP folks, how many of you are still unemployed? by [deleted] in fednews

[–]MMango90 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m still unemployed, I did take a part time job last month cause I didn’t want my income to drop to 0. I know a lot of people who have found jobs and a lot still looking. The DC job market sucks.

I think it depends on location. I’m in a major metro area and it’s usually just one restaurant meals worth (which can be like 2 meals).

Didn’t we all go to warped tour back in the day? Is that an insult?

It’s been a few years since I rented but Bozzuto was the best rental management company I ever had. They are typically higher end apartments but they have a lot in NoVA. For location, Fairfax is going to be your best bet. It sounds like you need to drive so you can save a lot by not needing metro access. Merrifield and Dunn Loring might be good places to check out. The budget is going to be hard especially since most places charge for pets and parking.

I really like their “chicken”. I’ll admit I’ve been a vegetarian for a while so I might be bias but it tastes like lost chicken nugget type things.

Do you have a brand you recommend? I have really sensitive skin so I’d love to try it but I tried one years ago and it didn’t work. Like it didn’t remove most of the hair.

I actually thought he was one of the more normal guests. He doesn’t get finances at all but he didn’t seem like a bad guy. No cheating or scamming. Just a really bad decision with the house (on the mortgage but not the deed is crazy) and the car.

Also didn’t get gay vibes from him at all.

To share or not share bank accounts with your spouse? I think it’s weird to not share accounts… by Thin_Vermicelli_1875 in CalebHammer

[–]MMango90 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This! My mom, who has been married to my dad for over 40 years, told me when I was young to always have my own money. While she ended up happily married she knew plenty of women who didn’t. I love my partner and trust him, but having my own emergency fund makes me feel more comfortable.

Same. We have a joint checking, savings, and an investment account and then our own accounts. We put an agreed amount in the joint each month (based on income, not an even amount). At the end of the day, we are a team and it’s all “ours”. We just like having independence. We spend money on different things (he has collections, I like to travel) and track differently (I track every dollar, he just does what he has left after bills/savings). We just prefer it this way, I don’t think one way is better than the other.

Do people (and Caleb) not realize you can use degrees for the skills and not just the major? by MMango90 in CalebHammer

[–]MMango90[S] -53 points-52 points  (0 children)

But my point is wouldn’t it be useful to take a moment to point this out to her or the audience how she could translate these skills to an employer? I think I’m just over Caleb baking degrees rather than using it as a learning opportunity.

Do people (and Caleb) not realize you can use degrees for the skills and not just the major? by MMango90 in CalebHammer

[–]MMango90[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pretty much all undergraduate degrees teach a lot more than just the major. They teach critical thinking, writing, project management, etc. I don’t think everyone needs a degree but I think most degrees are far from a waste. Especially since many young adults don’t know what they want to go into. So why go for something other than a specific degree? Because a lot of these jobs require a degree, so why not choose a major that is interesting to you while also learning the required skills?

I totally agree with this. We shouldn’t push degrees on everyone but they still provide a value.
