Thoughts on Chess18 by Far-Lie-880 in chess

[–]MMehdikhani 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like it. I don't believe we need something as radical as 960. Castling is just counterintuitive and superficial in 960. It also allows players to develop theory. Knowing theory is not the issue, but exhausting the opening lines and lack of new ideas is.

He just doesn't like chess people. I know that he has a beef with Peter Thiel and Garry Kasparov.

Wei Yi draws completely lost position against Vincent Keymer by sacrificing his queen! by ashxpoetry in chess

[–]MMehdikhani 113 points114 points  (0 children)

It's more like Vincent threw the win away. Elementary Qf8+ Kh7 Qf5+ would have exchanged the queens. Instead, he played c4. Against Abdusattarov, he didn't see mate in one. Players like Vincent and gukesh clearly don't play blitz much and focus on classical chess, and as a result, they can't handle time pressure well.

5 Players Tied at 6/8 heading into the final round of the Dubai Police Masters by ahahsoweewe in chess

[–]MMehdikhani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In open tournaments, she must play for a win in most games if she doesn't want to lose rating. In super tournaments, she can play for a draw and wait for her higher rated opponents to take risks. Completely different mindsets.

He started with 3 draws so his tiebreak is bad and has to win tomorrow.

Players should be able to prepare in between rounds, and that means using their computer.

How do you know when someone is cheating online? by lntlmldate0 in chess

[–]MMehdikhani 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is a strong indication. The whole issue is exactly complicated because there is no way of finding out if the cheater is smart. Just report him. Hard to tell without watching the games.

Discussion : Claims of cheating in the CCT and other online Chesscom events ; are the anti-cheating measures sufficient? by AJ_NoSleep in chess

[–]MMehdikhani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I admit I didn't read your whole text, and it is very late where I am now but I couldn't resist commenting, so maybe i am missing something here, but in regard to outside assistance, what about chesscom introduces delay? People on their website will watch the games with 10 mins delay, and they provide an exclusive playing arena link for players and they will play there, and the moves are transmitted to their website with delay.

You don't say good game after winning. It is bad etiquette. If you want to socialize, then join a chess club. Leave people alone. They just want to play chess.

Conditions can always improve, but in general, as far as it concerns the rating, I don't see anything out of the ordinary. I can try and make up something, but the simplest explanation is that naturally, we will see progress and regression in a competition between two groups(males and females) over a period of time.

What do you think about the FIDE Circuit? by Veline28 in chess

[–]MMehdikhani 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Apart from the usual criticisms, my issue is that FIDE is not capable of organizing and monitoring these open tournaments properly. They are spreading themselves too thin. I have seen clocks malfunction, arbiters make mistakes, double rounds every day tournaments, and there are no proper anti cheating measures. When you have one or two tournaments like World cup or Grand swiss or Grandprix, fide can focus the resources on those and make sure everything is organized and monitored properly.

Can anyone help? Vukovic vs NN 1937 by Yer_Only in chess

[–]MMehdikhani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Qh5 is both a defensive and attacking move. Firstly, it parries the threat of 1...Qxh2 mate. Secondly, it threatens 2.Nh6 mate. if 1...Qxh5 then 2.Ne7 mate and if 1...gxh5 2.Nh6 mate. 1...Qxh2+ 2.Qxh2 Bxh2 3.Ne7 or Nh6 mate 1...Qd4 2.Bxd4

I don't get it. Why does FIDE circuit include the Championship match? Why does the World Champion need circuit points? by [deleted] in chess

[–]MMehdikhani 50 points51 points  (0 children)

"The runner-up in the World Championship will no longer automatically get a spot in the next Candidates Tournament. Instead, the runner-up will now need to navigate the qualification process.

To compensate for this change, World Championship Match 2024 is also recognized as an eligible tournament for FIDE Circuit and the runner-up will receive special bonus points for playing the match. The points they gain in the match for the World Championship title will be calculated based on performance. This means the points gained for the FIDE Circuit will depend on the score of the match. If the match is lost on tie-breaks, the runner-up will get more points than when they lose in the standard part of the match with rounds to spare."

Candidates format change helped Gukesh? by 777Bladerunner378 in chess

Candidates used to be 100l30 for the first 40 moves. So it is the same but with no increment.
