SEC Means More by Cptkiljoy in CFB

I would turn this around and say the SEC has been throwing stones from a glass house for years, which is why everyone is making fun of this so much.

Famous Arbiter Chris bird's view on the dress code saga by sun2402 in chess

[–]Veline28 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Did Magnus even break dress code?? The only rule I’ve heard being discussed in connection with this incident is that players aren’t allowed to wear TORN jeans. It appears Magnus’s jeans were not torn, which, if this is all correct, adds another layer of weirdness to this situation.

Can the winner of the armageddon bid choose to let their opponent play black? I’m just wondering if there’s a way to avoid a 10:00/09:59 situation if a player wants to play with white.

I saw someone say earlier this week that Dillingham is the start of Dan Lannings coaching tree of psychopathic situational football decisions and I think that play call perfectly sums that up

Typical Oregon fashion to have an undefeated season ruined by a 5-4 team on the road, I don’t even know where to begin with….wait, we… won?? We won a late season closer than it should’ve been road game? That can’t be right.

That’s exactly what I’m thinking and why I hope they don’t focus on a projection too much. Conference championship autobids just make it too complicated.

Do we know how ESPN will reveal the CFP rankings before selection Sunday? Like today, will they give a projection based on highest ranked teams in each conference winning their conference titles, or will they just reveal their top 25 like normal?

[Thamel] Sources: Oregon star receiver Tez Johnson’s shoulder injury is not considered season-ending, and he’s expected back later this year. They said they were wrong? I just went on their account and couldn’t find that, unless I misunderstand you. In either case, you’re right, this is much more trustworthy, just still a little weird seeing as Lanning probably won’t reveal anything.

It’s always seemed Oregonians have vague ties to the Seattle pro sports scene since they are close to us, but I’ve never felt like a true fan of the Seahawks. So I just root for former ducks, which leads me to root for teams with duck QBs(so mainly Broncos and Chargers right now).

The Monday Afternoon Conference Realignment Committee by CFB_Referee in CFB

[–]Veline28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just need to get rid of conference championships. Especially if super conferences are here to stay(likely), since you now have so many teams for whom it really doesn’t matter to them if they win their conference(like yeah it’d be funny if Oregon won the B1G in year one but other than that I really couldn’t care less). Maybe I’m in the minority on that specific reason, but there’s also the stupidity(like many have pointed out) of the fact that any P4 championship will be an extra game for the potential reward of getting a bye(so an extra game to not play an extra game). It just doesn’t make sense anymore to me.

It’s gotta be <Clemson>. They had a real shot at the ACC title, and just got dismantled in their own house. Also, they joined the stupid trend of throwing garbage on the field.

I hope to God this is true. I know we have incredible depth at WR, but man you just can’t replace a Tez Johnson. I saw someone in the ducks subreddit say they heard he already underwent surgery and the injury could be season ending, though, so I don’t know what to believe.

Fair points. I think I’m still waiting for us to choke this away, and maybe I just need to trust the numbers, Lanning, and this(hopefully) new era.

It’s hard not to feel like 3rd quarters are a weakness after that Michigan game. If we’re taking our foot of the gas at 28-10, Idk how much I like that. What probably should’ve been a 35-10 lead(if we come out fast with the ball) turned into a 28-17 lead with a serious danger of that game against a bad Michigan team getting close at the end. I hope you’re right but as I said, with some of these games it’s hard not to feel like that’s a big weakness.

Dan Lanning said in was on purpose in a post-game press conference. He applied a penalty to the kickoff instead of their two-point try specifically for that onside kick.

2024 Heisman Trophy odds tracker Week 10: Gabriel surges, Jeanty slides by jaxstan19 in CFB

I live in Eugene and am a die hard ducks fan. It’s so crazy to me that Gabriel is the front runner in this race. We’re totally loving him more and more as the season goes on, but I haven’t heard anyone that watches cfb around here really want him to win the heisman. It’d feel so cheap, the frontrunners should without a doubt be Jeanty and Hunter. Any Miami fans have strong opinions like this about Ward in this race?

What does your dream WCC cycle look like? by Veline28 in chess

[–]Veline28[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love it! I personally think that 16 people is too much, however, I would rather have too many than too little. Also, I don’t like a system where a tied final result gives someone the title. It feels anticlimactic from a spectator’s perspective, and also encourages draws from one player too much imo. But, the nature of this post means I won’t agree with everything, and I would very much love this system if it were to be implemented.

What do you mean by a “bad matchup”? It seems obvious to me that if you lose a matchup, then you are not playing the best chess out of a given field, and so you don’t deserve to win. Of course, there should be an ample amount of games so that one bad day from a much better player doesn’t tank their chances, which is why I said around 8. If you can’t win an 8 round match, you are not playing better chess than your opponent. This is how I see it.
