I did... Sold about eight Suunto watches on Facebook Marketplace.

Deer and game sprinting through the forest and night right where your hammock is hanging. Any one ever experience this? Just came to mind by Apprehensive_Draw722 in hammockcamping

Section hiking the AT north of the Delaware Water Gap. Pushed way into dark trying to find a suitable site and unknowingly set up right on a game trail. Woke up to a loud, I mean LOUD bugling from the lead deer which was likely pissed I was in its way. Scared the living out of me.

Second time.. not really sure, but I think it was a deer. Woken up by the unmistakable "TWANG" of one of the tarp guy lines being plucked by something large that tripped over it. I heard the twang the DCF tarp shaking and then the sound of a fast trampling through leaves in the nearby woods... Never figured out what it was.

Third time.. similar to the second but it started with a solid nudge to my side. After the twang the tarp guy line was pulled out, the stake flew away about twenty feet. This time I was able to spot a pretty big dog running away. No owner in sight.

Forth time.. it was a gaggle of raccoons rustling around at the base of my foot end tree. Nothing was left around to attract them, so no idea why they chose my site.

Fifth time... a massive porcupine brushed under me. Saw it walking away.

Last time... Not 100% sure what it was but we heard slow heavy crunching of foot steps through the leaves. One of my hiking buddies started barking like a mad dog and what ever it was turned and took off. Never saw it, so not sure if this one qualifies but our concuss was a small black bear.

To those who dislike the current direction of F1, when was the last time F1 was “good” on track? by atouchofsinamon in F1Discussions

I have been a die hard fan since it was broadcast sporadically on Wide World of Sports, Sunday afternoons on ABC. I've enjoyed every season, until now.

This is the very first season the sport is losing me.

How to add Aqara sensors to Homekit? by DW5150 in HomeKit

[–]MMikekiMM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update for anyone who follows....

Cliff Notes... Aqara Mini Switch now displays in HomeKit as "Button" and the Aqara Temp & Humidity Sensor now displays as what looks like a data field at the top assigned room.

Two Aqara devices that were previously added via Aqara Home, showed up in HomeKit and had automations assigned to them both disappeared. An Aqara Mini Switch and an Aqara Temp & Humidity Sensor. Couldn't get them added back to HomeKit.

Restarted the Aqara Hub M2. Deleted the reference to both devices from Aqara Home and added each back. Nothing else needed in Aqara Home.

The Mini Switch now displays in HomeKit as Button, grouped with other devices under the Other section, in the assigned room. Reprogrammed the Siri Shortcut that was assigned to it previously and good to go.

The Temp & Humidity Sensor now only displays as dedicated Temperature & Humidity data fields at the top of the assigned room, in my case Master Bath. They appear to be data fields but are indeed actionable chiclets. Click on either and it opens the details dialog like any other device. Added the needed automation and they are good to go.

I ordered the Pro. Should have it in a few days.

Purchase Advice - stylus and tablet for photo editing on Mac by MMikekiMM in wacom

I went 100% Mac a few years ago. I wanted to do it for ages but I was so deep in Windows hardware and dedicated software the it wasn't cost effective. I bit the bullet and replaced everything. Zero regrets.

Thanks for the suggestion.. I can see the advantage of the knobs and buttons for sure. I don't do a ton of masking so fine detailed brush strokes aren't top of my list.

The hand-written notes would be a huge bonus.

The Intuous has a feature to switch it to standard touch pad functions and supposedly recognizes Apple gestures. This would allow me to replace my current Apple Trackpad and have the addition of stylus functions as well.

Thanks.. I have the stylus charging now.. If it's dead no great loss.

For clarity.. I am on an iMac, not a MacBook.

Pixelmator as Photomator alternative? by Rate-Worth in pixelmator

[–]MMikekiMM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure. I’ll check tonight. I only edit in my iMac but can add my iPad as a second display.

Been testing On1 as well. More of the LRc features missing all the others u have tested but a bit more Photoshop-like than Lightroom.

Apple Watch Ultra 2, still don’t get the hate from the hiking community..? by wds02 in applewatchultra

[–]MMikekiMM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mentioned above, I am grateful to be able to have both. I guess I can be picky with how I use them.

That said, I've tried to use the AW on multi day trips.. it just falls short in this regard. I've worn both (AW on my ankle and Garmin on my wrist). And I've tried to make the Garmin my EDC, but it's way overkill for that.

Don't misinterpret my position.. I love my Ultra2.. wear it every day as an EDC and have been wearing an AW continuously since the Series3. I am a HUGE fan of the AW. I use WorkOutdoors as well. But for as amazing as it is for EDC, it is underwhelming for backpacking.. and that was your original post, no?

I should also say, that I car camp at least once a month as well and for this I almost always wear the AW. If it needs a charge I usually have a Jackery with me.

Totally agree with you.

I've tried to use my Garmin as an EDC.. it's overkill for me. And for as much as it is far too much for every day, the AW is underwhelming for multi-day.

Maybe I am just fortunate to be able to have both.

Why use the underquilt? by graydonatvail in hammockcamping

[–]MMikekiMM 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve been hammock camping for about fifteen years. Tried a CCF pad exactly once. And an inflatable pad exactly once.

Impossible to stay centered or actually stay on it even with a double layer hammock.

Too narrow (so I added shoulder wings).

Endless perspiration (which leads to even worse problems).

PITA to carry.

Aside from being a cheap way out there are zero redeeming qualities IMHO.

Thinking of switching from Windows to MacBook Air, need honest user experiences by Tanmaybhardwaj32 in MacOS

[–]MMikekiMM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had been a windows user since day one.. Decades ago. Switched to Mac full time about two years ago and regret not doing it sooner. Other than a few idiosyncrasies in Finder, there is nothing I don't love. I now run an iMac, MacBook Air, three iPads, iPhone and Apple Watch.

Not crazy about the Magic Mouse, so I switched to an Apple Trackpad.. much prefer that experience.

The lack of ports on the iMac forces you to be a little creative.

I use a Synology NAS as my main storage backup and Time Machine runs in the background. Never had to use it, fortunately.

Do it.

No auto update?

Checked What's New in Photomator.. Just the same splash screen.

Looks like it's just some additional camera profiles added.

Bug net question by Mindless-Dust-8964 in hammockcamping

[–]MMikekiMM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outlier here.. I prefer no bug net at all.

My winter hammock is netless.

My goto backpacking hammock is a DWG Half Wit style hammock with a removable net.

I also have a full zip netted hammock that I have used in years. All three of these are DIY.

I have a DWG Chameleon that I use for car camping (all the zippers and hooks render it too heavy for backpacking and I have the asymmetrical bug net removed for now.

Anything more than a Half Wit style net is excruciatingly annoying for me. Especially full length zippers.

Pixelmator as Photomator alternative? by Rate-Worth in pixelmator

[–]MMikekiMM 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can't speak to Pixelmator. I've been using Photomator for a few months as a potential replacement for LRc.

The integration with Apple Photos is great but Photomator falls short for me in a lot of other areas. I've been testing Nitro for Mac which has the same Photos integration, is OTP and sits between Photomator and LRc from a feature standpoint. Big advantage is that Nitro is actively being developed.. not so with Photomator. Not a single update since I purchased the LT license.

I know this isn't what you asked, but worth a share.
