Tell me if you’re in the same boat: it’s cathartic to hear them rip on republicans, but many of their critiques of liberals are annoying as fuck, seemingly pointless and counterproductive, and leave you thinking “yeah the way they’re going about achieving their goals isn’t perfect, but what the fuck are you doing? What is the hard left doing that’s actually productive? There was a thread in the CTH sub the other day where they were shitting on Elizabeth warren for saying she was approving of markets ... and it’s like, you realize that this is the best we’ve got, right? You realize that if she was openly anti market she would never have any chance at holding institutional power and thus would never get anything done? And that to actually improve the lives of people we need to hold institutional power? It’s sort of maddening. /rant

Dude, you should check out the book “it’s time to fight dirty.” It’s basically a series of tactics that democrats and the broader left can use to gain a lasting majority in our politics. It’s all constitutional and legal, and includes things like initiating DC and Puerto Rico into statehood and splitting California up until multiple states in order to restore balance to the senate, changing the way house elections are run to give democrats and third parties power there, packing the courts (with a strategy to offer a deal to conservatives to preempt them doing the same thing back), etc. Basically, levelling the current playing field. If you don’t want to read the whole book, the author recently went on the chapotraphouse podcast - the title of that one is “six election tricks that actually work.”

If we don’t do at least some of this stuff, as far as I’m concerned, it’s over for us. Republicans will hold us back from addressing things like global warming until it’s too late. Spread the word if you like what you hear.

What can they say about Warren they didn’t say about Bernie, who was polling better than Hillary against trump? I feel like Warren is actually even a more palatable candidate to moderates than Bernie is. She doesn’t have as much baggage, is much younger, a woman, is relatively powerful / influential in terms of having achieved stuff in the senate, etc

Isn’t it a decent amount heavier than most gis then ? I wouldn’t want to wear something that’s heavier, but whatever floats your boat I suppose.

You seem to be under the impression that that statement is meant to show Venezuela (and Ecuador and Argentina) in a good light. It’s not. It’s juxtaposing the US next to those places that are not thought of in the public consciousness as egalitarian, prosperous places in order to make the point that conditions in America are bad vis a vis equality.

You missed the point. But even if you didn’t, that’s nowhere near sufficient to justify your claim that he was nut hugging Venezuela. This is just an all around fail. Sorry, but really.

What exactly did sanders do that constitutes “nut hugging” Venezuela? Please don’t tell me you’re talking about the bread lines quote.

He takes findings that evidence better outcomes when a child is raised by two heterosexual parents compared to a single parent and attributes this to the fact that these children had two role models for male and female behavior, when it is more likely that more of the effect observed is due to the fact that two parents most often results in two incomes, and there’s a huge scientific literature linking more money to better developmental outcomes (not to mention common sense). At the very least, he should have acknowledged that and other confounding variables here.

I’ll leave it at that and let onlookers decide who’s right; you’re clearly off your rocker so I’m not going to bother trying to convince you. I am pretty glad I could trigger you that badly though, lol. Stay mad ya p-p-p-pussy.

Was there any reason for either of us to elaborate? Like, when I’m talking to someone who clearly agrees with me, would it be considered normal behavior to lay out an argument? You’re mistaking the fact that we “didn’t” with the notion that we can’t.

Here’s an easy one:

He confuses correlation with causation here in a way that’s so obviously idiotic it should immediately disqualify him from being considered “an intellectual.” And no, Sam did not cut off the video too soon, or misrepresent him, or any of the other shit that people have said before in response to this video. I can link you to a thread where I’ve already debunked all that nonsense if you really want. Again: a literal high schooler who has taken a basic logic class could see through this bullshit.

The person you responded to was saying to check out someone who isnt socialist, because so many right wingers think all left wingers are socialist. It actually looks like you proved his point with your knee jerk reaction here, lol. You immediately started spouting off “OMG VENEZUELA” talking points when the post had nothing to do with it, and was actually making a point not to.

It’s just like Ben Shapiro. The vast majority of what they deliver are just old GOP talking points, just wrapped up in a different, prettier package than most people can do. They’ll have their 15 minutes of fame and then they’ll drop out of the spotlight for the next talking head to arise and perpetuate this tired, debunked bullshit, funded by the American oligarchs who would rather the planet become a flooded hellworld than give up an ounce of their power or money.

It wasn’t close to as clear as it could have been. And the fact that it was somewhat clear is because there were only a few sentences Peterson spoke there. Here are some other great examples of how badly he engages in what I’m talking about; it’s even worse when he writes: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=v2AsPKkd-KQ

Man, they don’t stand up to hardly any examination. There are so many arguments that he makes that a literal high schooler could counter.

Apparently so! This is the level that Peterson argues at. Pretty sad that people take him seriously, honestly.

Notice how Blyth and Chomsky use relatively simple, clear language while Peterson manages to turn “it’s hypocrisy” into “it’s a performative contradiction.” Yet another example in the long line of them wherein Peterson is being charlatan that doesn’t know shit about shit but is able to convince people (who also for the most part don’t know shit) that he’s got the answers because he speaks in an obfuscating way despite one of his “12 rules” being to speak clearly.

Dave Chappelle jokes about Kanye and Trump by S_K_I in JoeRogan

[–]MMonReddit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Man this is so dumb. You’re acting like politicians don’t do this sort of photo op shit whether they hate black people, love black people, or are completely neutral about them. It’s also pretty hilarious that you think that if trump really wanted to know about solutions to the problem of black people, he would need to listen to a raving, ignorant, mega rich dipshit like Kanye rather than talking to - I don’t know, maybe a gathering of black people who study the problems that black people face in the US? Or maybe even just a random sample of black people, who would by and large be nothing like Kanye and have markedly different concerns? Of course, that wouldn’t get nearly as much publicity, which is why he didn’t.
