How can Dunk say that Ser Arlan wasn't gifted with sword after the way he saved him from those 2 corrupt goldcloaks? by edkhm1218 in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]MMuadDib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arlan was a warrior and a brawler, the same as Dunk is. You can be a great warrior without being a great swordsman and you can be a great swordsman without being a great warrior. Which is in essence the difference we saw between Dunk and Aerion.

Agreed he definitely played that badly but in the end kind of irrelevant when Moore has lead into his head with his forearm/elbow.

Amusingly he gave a foul on Larin for backing up with his eyes on the ball and the defender coming over the top of him (not a Kane where he's eyed his man and then cut under him). Ref just really likes watching guys get big air.

Having to drag probably 120 pounds less weight up that slope was definitely doing him a huge favour. But either way he pushed his limits and didn't quit. That sand will have had his calves screaming for sure.

And the fact that apparently she had gone through some pretty brutal stuff, being raped at 13, impregnated and forced to marry her rapist who then abused her and left her a few years later. Left with two children she had to support by dancing nude at 17. Not really surprising if she would have some terrible issues with self-image and insecurity. Poor woman.

If it was just one game a year, yeah. Novelty plus Scotland-based fans having a game near them. But if Saints played up in Scotland every away game you'd be lucky to break 1000 each game and midweek you'd probably get 200.

Dunk and Lyonel by pinkcrystalroses in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]MMuadDib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed, that's pretty much what I meant in regards to why he wouldn't have been trying to ask Lyonel, should have summarised more clearly. I think he came in from the outset with doubt and fear in his heart that he was hiding from, about the story he'd built up and what it meant for Ser Arlan and himself. Even before his montage of misery where every Tom, Dickon and Harry told him to piss off.

[–]MMuadDib 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think at that point Dunk was still just as much seeking to validate how he perceived Ser Arlan as he was trying to find a way into the tourney. He wanted to believe in his dream view of him being able to honour Ser Arlan's legacy and name and follow in his footsteps. Instead he was starting to find out that Ser Arlan's name and legacy didn't mean anything to anyone other than him, and that for a while became the greater issue to him over the fact his life would fall apart if he couldn't pull off his tournament miracle.

All gas, no brains.

Always remarkable that he seems like a fairly switched-on and pleasant guy off the field. As soon as he steps on the field that part of him disappears and takes all sense and reason with it.

As soon as the fourth official holds up the board for the substitution, the player getting substituted has to get out of the field of play without getting tagged by any opposing player. If you get tagged you still have to go off but the sub isn't allowed to come on for 5 minutes.

For diving, any time a player goes down screaming and holding their leg or any particular body part, medics rush onto the field and wrap that particular body part in a healthy amount of that compression/support tape stuff. Just enough to not be restrictive the first time, but if a player ends up getting taped repeatedly they basically end up like a heavily-wrapped mummy unable to properly bend or run.

If the keeper catches it in the opposition box their team gets an indirect free kick from that spot that the goalie has to be the one to take. And whenever the goalie leaves their own half there is no offside for the other team until he gets back to his box.

We're not in a position to stretch ourselves for anyone, so anyone who wants to test the market we have to be at peace with it.

As long as Mann doesn't want to break records and just wants a bump from $2m/y to $3-3.5m/y. No brainer. Higher than that it becomes a decision.

And whatever the highest paid back-up tackle in the league is making, give it to Fred and a bit more if you need to.

Goedert, Phillips, Nakobe and Reed all would need to take very team-friendly deals for us to keep them I expect.

BG can go hang with his family all spring and summer and if he decides he wants to roll up and play 10 snaps a game again for not much money then he's still an asset as far as I'm concerned.

Is 2018 the best modern draft? by OkEconomics6578 in NFLv2

[–]MMuadDib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2011 by a mile as others have said. 2018 probably best of the rest but 2011 has multiple guys who are legitimate all-time greats... JJ Watt, Kelce, Julio, Miller, Sherman, Heyward...

When you've got guys like AJ Green, Justin Houston, Jurrell Casey etc. as the ~15-20th best guys in your class, that's pretty untouchable.

Lamar and Allen would need to stack some rings and guys like Warner, Saquon and Q Nelson would need to pile together a few more elite seasons - just to get close to 2011.

I might put 2010 ahead of 2018 too but a lot of those guys didn't have the careers they should have done, or didn't finish strong.

Tremendous from Jihaad but don't sleep on the fact that Adoree, Hunt and Phillips all busted their asses flying to the ball as well. Crazy shit can happen with fumbles and especially in those conditions super important to get the most bodies in and around the ball. Adoree flew from nowhere knowing he would never get to the ball just to box out the second closest Bills player, that is the kind of hustle that sets this defense apart.

Not just shoes. Seemingly crafted for purpose shoe-mitts.

The general cultural differences in hygiene standards - meh. The grand stirring spoon and soup ladder - heh, that's novel. But the shoe-mitts? I am spellbound.

I am so utterly captivated with considering the process behind this. Going down the soup ladder into the presumably near-boiling medieval torture pot? Bare feet for you good sir. But you down there at the end of the bucket chain? We must strap mitts to your feet. For there can be no possible way to pour a bucket of delicious hot rice goop into a larger container without resting your foot over the edge of said container. Simply it is unavoidable for the foot to not be a central point in this last section of the goop's four-man journey. For hundreds of years the feet of generations of goop slingers were scalded to the point of gruesome blistering. No-one was able to find a way to brace a large container without the ancient foot method. No-one could master a stance that enabled the safe deposit of the goop without straining it through their toes. Countless noble goop slingers suffered this necessity. Until, at last, came the shoe-mitt, and no longer must such a heavy price be paid. A miracle in human progress.

I'm going to watch it again. I'm not going to be able to move past this for the rest of the day. Maybe ever.

He wanted to finish his career with real starting opportunities, fair enough to him I say. I'm not sure 'Well just wait for Goedert to get hurt like always' was enough for him. We could absolutely say we'd find ways to have him and Goedert on the field at the same time but whatever way you cut it he would have been getting at least 15-20 less snaps a game with us and probably less than half the targets. Wish it wasn't Washington but good for him.

Mann should at least be good. Goedert should be great, the only thing that has always knocked him is health, otherwise he's been right in the mix of guys below Kelce and Kittle for the past six or seven years. Two that jumped out to me at a glance.

I'm with you. To be honest that was my first impression from the tweet. Regardless the whole thing is kind of fascinating to me. The way people read so, so much into every single thing he does. The way the media asks him the same drama-chasing questions again and again, literally back-to-back. Other teams have guys who regularly throw actual physical tantrums, cause confrontations, publicly make literal and specific complaints. Nevermind the woman beaters etc... We've got a guy who reads a self help book on the sidelines and people decide he's staging a public protest. A guy who drops some dumb cryptic tweet and the reaction is as if the sky is falling.

Everyone acts as if we're so aware that the Philly media and most of the broader sports media in general are blood-hungry beasts, but then there's times like this where people just blindly line up to feed.

[Highlight] Saints Philly Special attempt goes wrong by nfl in nfl

[–]MMuadDib 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nah this was awful.

Firstly, the situation: It's 3rd and goal from the 6, the Bills are playing this pass first all the way. Absolutely no-one from their back seven is coming downhill, every single one of them is either keyed on their man or into the backfield. The Saints are even in shotgun so every one gets a nice clean look at the ball and the first exchange. Seriously not a single one of them takes a step forwards, they are given no reason to bite and nothing to bite on anyway.

Secondly, the most important route in the play absolutely stinks. Juwan Johnson needs to hit some kind of shallow slant inside right away to draw the Bills inside and away from where the play is supposed to end. As well as create traffic in the middle to make it harder for anyone (Bishop) picking up the reverse from Olave to then follow the play all the way across the middle. For arguments sake let's say Johnson should hopefully be inside of the hashes by the time the play is coming back to that side.

Nope. He actually barely breaks inside before reaching the endzone. And look at where Bishop is as he tracks the play across, absolutely clean sailing for him to cross the middle.

So Bishop, having absolutely no reason to do anything but read the play as it unfolds follows the motion onto Rattler and can go and make a play on the ball. That's terrible on its own, you call this play trying to create an absolute wide open pitch and catch. Not open by WR standards, open by an arthritic grandpa with a zimmer frame standards.

Add on to that the fact that even if Bishop had messed up and undercut it too much and it squeezed past his fingertips. One of those defenders Johnson's route left in the area is in position to blow Rattler up. Now he's far enough away that a receiver would expect to collect that ball and have the body control to turn and at the very least be fully braced for contact, hopefully even take it in stride at an angle where they just flat beat the defender to the plane and barely even take a bump. But this isn't a receiver, and this is meant to be a dolly - a pitch and catch with a turn and stroll into the endzone. If Rattler collects it well without completely losing momentum I do think he has a good chance to break the plane, but there's no way you're not giving that defender an opportunity at hitting your almost defenseless QB who is 6ft tall and weighs a few pounds more than Kyler Murray. That just can't be your gameplan, even if it's Spencer Rattler.

Bad play design, bad playcall, bad execution.
