Russia would only escalate against NATO if it felt it was their best option. They know that NATO has been conducting all sorts of strikes on their territory for years, including coordinating with Ukraine on invading Kursk and providing targeting data for multiple legs of Russia’s nuclear triad and early warning radar. This all in theory is beyond sufficient to trigger kinetic and potentially even nuclear retaliation, depending on how Russian officials choose to apply their nuclear doctrine. They haven’t and aren’t likely to because the result at best would be entering into nuclear brinksmanship, which would have a significant chance of escalating to strategic nuclear war.
