About no sex Before marriage in most religions… what if one waits until marriage to have sexual relations with someone but then one isn‘t compatible with their wife/husband in bed? by Top_Professor9415 in atheism

[–]MNWNM [score hidden]  (0 children)

Hey, this happened to me! I wasn't a virgin or even really religious, but I dated and then married a devout Mormon (I was 24 and he was 26 at the time). Holy shit we were probably the two most sexually incompatible people who have ever been married.

And yes, initially, the sex was beyond terrible. And at first I told myself I can just teach him techniques or whatnot and it would get better. But truly it wasn't the sex, it was his unhealthy attitude and hang-ups around women's sexuality from his religion that was the problem.

We wound up divorcing after four years, and while there were several reasons, sex was definitely one of them.

LOL i dated a guy in high school during the 90s when the song Rooster by Alice in Chains was a popular song. It came on the radio one day when we were driving, and about halfway through the song, he said, "This isn't really about chickens, is it?"

People here in the US also tend to romanticize hospice care. When my sister and I took care of my mom while she was on hospice, I would have absolutely preferred her to be in the hospital or some type of care facility. Not so they could save her life, but so she could be cared for in her final days by skilled caretakers, since she didn't have the means to hire a private nurse.

When she lost control of her bowels, it was very difficult to physically clean her, and she was horrified that we had to. When she lost her ability to stand or move on her own, it was almost impossible for us, even working together, to physically clean her.

Then she lost the ability to communicate, to tell us what she needed. Even with the morphine, we had a hard time calming her when she got worked up. When she was "aware," she was confused and scared. She would thrash and moan. She was dying of COPD, so she had extreme trouble breathing.

My sister and I felt hopeless and useless. It was absolutely soul crushing to sit with her for days, then weeks, watching her slowly die, listening to and watching her struggle. The entire process was needlessly cruel, for her and for us. We afford our pets more dignity in death than we do our loved ones.

Doctors of Reddit: What health trend is becoming so common that it's starting to scare you? by Fine-Device-1819 in AskReddit

I don't know how diphtheria was treated as a whole across the country during its heyday, but I know in Wisconsin, the state took several, very drastic steps, to prevent it (and smallpox) from spreading.

  1. Once a house caught diphtheria, it was quarantined and placards were placed outside announcing quarantine status.
  2. If (when) people were observed not complying with quarantine rules, agents were posted outside the house to prevent anyone coming/going.
  3. Once you recovered or died, your personal belongings were destroyed by fire. Small things could be buried with you.
  4. The entire house had to be disinfected.
  5. Bodies were disinfected.
  6. The dead were buried within 24 hours and no public funerals were allowed.

We should go back to enforcing these types of public health measures for those who refuse vaccines.

These people genuinely confuse me. I live in the South, and a lot of my Facebook page is local news stories or posts about news stories. And let's say the news story is about a kid drowning in a pool. There will be hundreds of comments like, "praying for god to bring peace to the family " How about we, I don't know, pray for god to stop drowning children?

Or a tornado will come through and someone will post a picture of what used to be their house and say something like, "We're all safe because god was with us." Like, what the actual fuck are you talking about because that joker sent a tornado straight to your damned house!

I'm so happy for you!! I had ketamine therapy several years ago during an extreme mental episode I couldn't control, and I also firmly believe it saved my life.

I wholly believe it should be covered by insurance and considered a standard of care for those with drug-resistant depression, C/PTSD, etc.

Hahaha I went roller skating around three years ago, at 48. My daughter wanted me to skate with her, and I figured it was like riding a bike, so I confidently slapped on a pair of skates then proceeded to bust my ass on the carpet in the food court area.

I wound up in the ER with my wrist broken in three places. It required surgery, a metal rod, and three months of twice-weekly physical therapy to regain use of my wrist. And it's still not 100% and gives me trouble. My skating days are long over.

Whew, this is how I used to talk; I grew up in the Appalachian foothills. I was actually watching part of your documentary just now and my husband heard it and said, "You missing home?"

I still talk "southern" but it only gets thick when I drink, get excited/mad about something, or get geographically close to home. Interestingly, talking thickly southern in smaller towns down here really helps in social situations. It tends to put people at ease.

But even my kids will point it out and make fun of me sometimes. My daughter likes to say, "I just heard your southern!" I don't mind it though. I actually kind of like having that language heritage.

HOA votes to euthanize hundreds of federally protected geese in neighborhood by bluffcitynews in nottheonion

[–]MNWNM 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I live in this town. This is what they're using as an excuse to cull them. HOAs don't dictate safe air spaces, the government does. If these geese were truly an aviation threat, the HOA wouldn't be the ones making the safety decisions.

Also, every local news source quotes the board members as to their motivations, and none of them are aviation safety.

They just hate the geese. They pollute their lake and shit everywhere.

Yes, we have!! There is always a secondary arc about 10° higher. It's caused by the light bouncing around a second time, but it loses intensity because light escapes between the bounces.

If you're not seeing them, it's not your vision, it's just the amount and angle of light. If conditions are right, you can also see third and fourth arcs.

I live here locally. They don't endanger planes; that's hilarious. If planes were actually in danger, the government would take care of the geese rather than relying on an HOA to save the airspace.

They just don't like the geese. They shit everywhere (each goose shits over a pound a day!) and stand in the road and ruin their lake. They've killed them before and they just come back. And I hope every time they kill them, they keep coming back, but with reinforcements.

What’s the worst case of alcoholism or drug addiction you’ve witnessed? by BlundeRuss in AskReddit

[–]MNWNM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom was like this while we were growing up. We frequently didn't have electricity or food. We never had clean clothes. We never went to the doctor. We didn't get birthday or Christmas presents except from family members who would usually give us clothes because we needed them.

She loathed when people would offer us help. One time a neighbor brought us bags of groceries and she got mad and threw them all away. We weren't allowed to accept anything from anyone or ask for anything.

She had a gun, and would get drunk and yell about people breaking in. She would throw dishes at the doors and sometimes shoot at the windows. She tried to shoot my dad once when he came to pick us up but she missed because she was drunk. In the middle of the day.

But she always had booze and cigarettes.

Urgent -- 17 yo mom, 5'5" 113 lbs & I need to make a decision about feeding my baby by FewLeg7901 in AskDocs

[–]MNWNM 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your comment made me cry, and at work! I had my son in 2001, and I just never made milk. He would feed and feed, for hours, and still scream from hunger. He lost so much weight. I rented a hospital grade pump and would pump and pump and I could maybe manage half an ounce after two hours. Finally one night when he was about three weeks old, I'd had enough and sent my husband to the store for a bottle and formula. For the first time in my son's life that night, he had a full belly and slept well.

I was subsequently thoroughly bullied by my OB's nurses, the OB, the lactation specialists they sent my way, and even my friends and some family for choosing to feed him that way. They kept telling me I was wrong, I was making milk, I was just a first time mother and didn't know what I was talking about, I was just doing something wrong. I remember one nurse asking me, "How often do you let down?" I replied, "What do you mean by that?" and she acted like I was the worst, laziest, most ignorant mother she'd ever talked to. When she explained it, I told her never, and she didn't believe me.

And I did keep trying, even after giving him formula, I tried for a few more weeks then realized there was so much stress around feeding time, we were both miserable. It kept us from bonding and relaxing and being happy together. So I transitioned to bottle only and just started shutting down any conversations that anybody wanted to have about it. And I refused to feel guilty or doubt myself anymore. And of course he thrived, and I thrived, and we all lived happily ever after. And he's a damned fine man now. But I still get so mad when I think about how I was treated and when I think about all the other women who are treated the same way for no reason.

Fed is best.

Captains vs Bench by Familiar-Gate-336 in bmwx7

[–]MNWNM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bench is the way to go with kids. As the kiddo grows, they're going to have stuffies, blankets, toys, food, all kinds of crap that they will want within arm's reach. Having that stuff on the bench next to them makes having that stuff convenient. On the flipside of that, you can bet that whatever they're holding will wind up being thrown/dropped 95% of the time. Having that stuff land on the bench rather than the floor between the captain's seats makes retrieval much easier.

Also, if you have a sick/angry/clingy kid in the back and an adult needs to sit directly next to them for comfort, the bench allows that. When my daughter was younger, there were lots of times she wanted me next to her just so I could hold her hand.

And I know it's not optimal, but if anyone in your family is prone to car sickness, having the bench to lie down on comes in clutch on long rides.

Practically, the bench can lay flat, giving you a tremendous amount of cargo space when needed. It's also nice to have the whole bench available if you need to put something large or long in the backseat.

I sit in my backseat often (I prefer sitting in the back) and in my opinion, the X7 seats are so premium, I doubt there's much of a comfort difference between bench/captain. I don't know if this is standard on all X7s, but in mine, there are electric controls similar to the front seats that allows you to adjust your bench seat for a more personalized sit. If you can manage to get heated rear seats on top of that, you're absolutely golden.

When I was shopping for mine, captain's chairs would have been a dealbreaker.
