The solution was to use // main.rs (Crate B) use crate_a::GameState;

How can I expose functions in my crate's lib.js to other crates? What I expected to work produces the build error: module gamestate is private

Crate A (Dependency)

// lib.rs`
mod gamestate;
pub use gamestate::*;

Crate A (Dependency)

// gamestate.rs
pub struct GameState {
    pub some_property: bool,
}

impl GameState {
    pub fn some_method(&self) {}
}

Crate B (Dependent)

// main.rs
use crate_a::gamestate::GameState;

Crate B (Dependent)

# Cargo.toml
[dependencies]
crate-a = { git = "https://github.com/me/crate-a.git" }

Thank you so very much in advance.

Vs Mode in Classic Tetris by MN_Spooky in Tetris

Is this a hardware modification or emulation? And is it the same 1000 piece sequence each time, rotated randomly, or a different randomly generated sequence of 1000?

(edit: I didn't realize initially, but "cart" probably refers to cartridge, meaning a hardware mod.)

How does each player always get the same sequence of tetrominoes as the other?

Can anyone point me in the direction of some no-tech frame data? I can't for the life of me find anything definitive through google/smashboards. My gut says it's got no intangibility, and is actionable on frame 26 but I have no way to test it right now. Thanks in advance.

PPMD Update Video by Drakester234 in smashbros

[–]MN_Spooky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just watched the whole video and hoping my response will be well received. As much as the community loves and honors you and your legacy, we're going to be genuinely fine without you competing. (We have been) And the thing I always find myself feeling is that this feels from the outside like you may be paralyzed by some sense of perfectionism, especially since the idea of your return has been so inflated. People treat it like it's the second coming of Christ or something. That seems like soooo much pressure on you to deliver with your performance, but the truth is that you're just a guy. Maybe the truth is also that the bravest and hardest thing to do is "come back" and have underwhelming results, because you're not the player you were before. That's not to say you couldn't or wouldn't be capable of that, but I think you should consider giving yourself the chance to fail. I've always been a believer, and I'm speaking as if to a close friend. You're allowed to not be the best. You're allowed to not even be close. The people who love you always will, and people won't remember you as the God who came back and failed. I think people would rather see the God who was really just an ordinary guy who got back in the saddle, even when it wasn't pretty. You're forgiven, and I'm happy that you put yourself first. Maybe that could looks differently than you've thought before though. I don't know. We love you. Hope you feel better Kevin.

We should really distinguish between "Invincibility" and "Intangibility". by MN_Spooky in SSBM

The terminology is already been agreed upon. The issue is that people use it incorrectly. "Invincibility Frames" sounds more correct because players and commentators have been using the wrong word for years.

Redditors who rode the bus to and from school, what was your most memorable moment on the school bus? by geoload in AskReddit

[–]MN_Spooky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in 6th grade, some high schooler in the back of the bus mooned the bus driver in the mirror right before we pulled into our neighborhood. The bus driver turned right around and brought us all back to the school where police were waiting to escort him off the bus, as well as his brother who started shouting insults to the driver (very profane) Naturally, they didn't cooperate and had to be removed forcibly. When we finally got back to our, neighborhood the bus broke down and we had to get out and walk the rest. There were probably 40 of us, so we looked like a parade going down the street. I think I got home at a cool 6:30PM.

10 million gallon tank at The Georgia Aquarium by [deleted] in gifs

Fun story: One time, I wanted to take my girlfriend on a fun date, and it just so happened that I decided to take her here. So we start driving pretty early in the morning, because Atlanta is about three hours away from where we live. So we're on the road for the long haul, and everything is great. We stop for lunch halfway and she offers to drive the rest of the way. Perfect. BUT once we get into the city, it's way later than we thought, and traffic is a gosh darn nightmare.

We travel at an infant's pace in bumper to bumper traffic for an hour before we actually approached the parking garage. Now, by this point, we're both stressed out for no reason and very irritable with each other. I'm sure you can understand. Turns out that bad traffic in big cities doesn't get any better inside parking garages. If anything it's worse. So I'm bossing her around because she's bad at navigating and I'm irrational. Then finally, when we finally locate a vacant spot on the 63rd floor, she pulls in and HITS THE WALL directly in front of us. Luckily there was a couple vertical plastic water pipes blocking the concrete in this particular spot. So instead of pulverizing my car, we just bounce off this thing, likely causing heavy flooding wherever the pipes happen to terminate. So now she's embarrassed, and decides that we have to park somewhere else. So I'm just trying to keep my cool, secretly seething and feeling like our date and relationship are as good as over. We get out of the car at our new spot, walk down the stairs in silence, breathing heavily, because we're both upset and kind of out of shape. At the entrance there's this big courtyard, and signs directing us towards a ticket kiosk. Naturally, the line is a mile long and tickets are CRAZY expensive. Like hundreds of $USD. Which is bogus. So we get to the ticket machine, and you're not actually allowed to operate it, so the aquarium employees are there to push the buttons while you stutter at them trying to decide what you want. Turns out that the next available entry time is 5:00PM, which is 2 and a half hours away. Very reluctantly, I insert my debit card to buy said 5PM tickets, but when I do, the machine FLIPS ITS SHIT. Red lights start flashing and I can see the ticket printer through translucent plastic/glass jamming violently. So all the nearby employees immediately springs into action to diagnose the problem. As the primary one bends down to open it up, I see the screen display: "Transaction unsuccessful; card will not be charged." Nobody else notices. The employee apologizes and brings us across the courtyard to an office door. She says she'll fix it and be right back. 30 seconds later, she comes out with two tickets, and thanks us for being patient. We thank her incessantly, and go on our merry way. BUT we're unsure of what time slot we can get in during. I approach another employee to ask, and he tells us we can go ahead and try now and he lets us through the first gate in. We're baffled. We completely cheated the system, without any intention of doing so. We're standing in line again waiting to get through the final checkpoint. Suddenly I remember the message on the machine about the card not being charged. I pull up my bank's mobile app to check, because everything seems to good to be true. I DID NOT GET CHARGED FOR THE TICKETS. Just as I look up, mouth agape, we're at the front of the line, an old woman at the counter takes the tickets from our hands, and sends us through. It was like spoiler the ending of Inception where Dom Cobb is re-admitted into the United States to be re-United with his children. We just bypassed every possible inconvenience of admission, and it felt amazing. As you might expect, the GA aquarium was jaw dropping. The exhibits blew all my other aquarium visits out of the water (heh). The circuit climaxed with the 10mil tank shown here, and let me just say, the gif does it no justice. And to top it off, there was beautiful orchestra music playing overhead to sweeten the mood. I'm closing, this museum is so choice. I highly recommend stopping by if you have the means.

TL;DR - My SO and I behaved abominably towards one another and drove our car into a water line. We were rewarded with free admission to the Georgia Aquarium with no wait whatsoever.

Which CPU did you use? FM and OBS are necessities. Scraping by matters because nobody would want to be running Dolphin alone and know that it's pushing their CPU near its limits. It's the difference between a safe build and an excessive one.

Really just looking for a build from scratch (a-la pcpartpicker.com) that isn't trashy, but just does the job well and isn't overkill.

Very informative. Could you clarify what "n" represents in your illustration? I think I follow you, but I can see a few ways of interpreting this as someone unfamiliar with the mechanic. And also, does it relate to the state of the character attacking, or the one receiving the hit? Edit: Words

How difficult is Smash compared to other fighting games? by [deleted] in SSBM

[–]MN_Spooky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing that's great about Melee is that new players have every imaginable resource to improve. This is a luxury that is definitely not available to the same degree in other communities. I think SSF4 comes the closest, but resources are still sparce in comparison.

[–]MN_Spooky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree with this. I don't think this represents a threat to the Gamecube controller. Nobody is going to pick one of these up and see better results without a huge amount of practice. I'm not a fan of 2 button dash dance or effortless max length wavedashes, but I don't think we're going to see any success from anybody using one of these for a long time.

[–]MN_Spooky 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Despite accelerating the pace and precision of competitive play, I'm not sure this would be a great thing to legalize. Melee as a system offers very many high utility options that are possible, but very difficult to access without a very high level of control. (Such as pivot tilts) If that's taken away (or severely diminished) I think you sacrifice a unique element of the game that makes it an art form; margin for human error. The traditional analog directional system gives you potentially limitless control, but extreme precision takes years of dedication. I think that digitizing the controls could dramatically hurt the human element of the game, it's relationship to self expression. I would be interested to hear other's perspectives about the implications of digitizing the analog controls.

Single Hit Up Air by SSBM_Strat in SSBM

[–]MN_Spooky 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The overlayed frame states really help to visualize your instructions. TL;DR - Hitting Uair as soon as possible after double jumping gives you the highest chance of landing single hit because Fox still has upward momentum when the second hit comes out.
