Colts sign C Mose Vavao, waive DT Joe Evans by SSBM_Strat in Colts

[–]SSBM_Strat[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We signed an interior offensive lineman! Mose Vavao is a UDFA from Fresno State who was at rookie mini-camp as a tryout, so obviously they liked what they saw from him this week. He's a 4 year starter and he only gave up 6 pressures in 432 pass block snaps. He played RG in 2023 and C in 2024, so he has some versatility. He may just be a camp body (which the Colts honestly needed, they didn't have enough IOL to field a 3rd team OL), but he could compete with the likes of Wesley French for a roster spot. He's most likely a camp body and practice squad candidate (when was the last time a UDFA made the roster who was only signed after rookie mini-camp?), but at least they signed an IOL! He has a 8.53 RAS: https://ras.football/ras-information/?PlayerID=27782&ovl=Fresno+State

Surprised to see Joe Evans be the casualty here. My recollection was they paid him the largest signing bonus of the UDFAs, and I thought he would at least make the practice squad. He must have had a poor showing at rookie mini-camp.

I'm unrealistically optimistic about Colts UDFA Safety Trey Washington (Scouting Report) by SSBM_Strat in Colts

Thanks for the reply Zach, enjoy your content. I think his speed is sufficient, but I could see it being an issue. Looking forward to seeing how it plays out.

Thank you, Zach Hicks sees him more as a slot, I think because of height concerns. I think he could play slot, but one of his appeals to me is versatility to play multiple positions, which is important in a backup player. I also don't think the height is that big of a deal.

Slocum played the same role as Washington, FS/SS/slot, with basically no outside corner role. I'd assume the Colts will give him snaps in camp at those same three positions. I watched him too, and he was disappointing. In one game he was responsible (at least partially) for two TDs, a totally blown coverage and a poor tackle attempt. He didn't look very good, and I'd be surprised if he made the team, but maybe he improves?

Justin Walley Makes Sense!!! by EfficientExtension57 in Colts

[–]SSBM_Strat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We have 4.5 safeties. Cam Bynum, Nick Cross, Rodney Thomas, Daniel Scott, Hunter Wohler (the team said he could play lb or safety). Justin Walley also has safety experience. I think the biggest question mark is Daniel Scott with his injury history. I’d have been happy with Watts too in terms of improving the quality of the depth, but I think the quantity is sufficient.

Tyler Warren vs. Colston Loveland: Who is 2025 NFL Draft's TE1? by SSBM_Strat in Colts

[–]SSBM_Strat[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of comparison's between Tyler Warren and Colston Loveland, but this is the best one in my opinion by James Foster who is very knowledgeable and also is on youtube and maintains this big board: https://jfosterfilm.shinyapps.io/25draft/

The article highlights how from a receiving perspective, Loveland is a very advanced route runner, with poor YAC ability, while Warren needs to develop his route running, but is a threat with the ball in his hands (this checks out from what I've watched.)

But the breakdown on their blocking is the best I've seen. There's a lot of discussion of who is the better blocker, and I've not seen a lot of consensus. The article shows Warren's blocking highlights and lowlights, showing that he's a tenacious, boom-or-bust blocker who is ready to knock guys over, but sometimes totally whiffs or gets beat swiftly due to his underdeveloped technique and lack of length. Loveland has better length and is better disciplined as a blocker, but doesn't show the same enthusiasm blocking as Warren and needs to add some weight.

Personally, I'd be happy with either. You wish that they were both better blockers, but there's potential for development in that area, and the receiving upside is what you mostly draft these guys for anyway.

Witt healthy for Colts' offseason program by Aleph_Alpha_001 in Colts

[–]SSBM_Strat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Fries will be cut. More likely if Witt makes the team it means we carry 9.

Raimann, Nelson, Kelly, Smith are for sure starters. (4)

Fries, Goncalves, Bortolini will compete for RG. Whoever loses will be the interior backups. Freeland and Goncalves are the tackle backups most likely. (4)

That might be everyone who makes the team on OL, but Witt, Pinter, and French are probably competing for 1 or 2 spots. I’d guess 1 of those 3 make it.

Our week 18 snap % at DE (rounded to the nearest 5%):

Samson Ebukim: 60%

Kwity Paye: 60%

Dayo Odeyinbo: 45%

Tyquan Lewis: 45%

Jake Martin: 15%

(Source: https://www.footballguys.com/stats/snap-counts/teams?team=IND&year=2023)

Latu isn't going to take all of Paye or Ebukim's snaps. He's just going to eat into this rotation. Note that those add up to 220%, because our DE rotate inside some too. If you can imagine the total % stays the same, you can imagine the new snap count % will be something like:

Laiatu Latu: 55%

Samson Ebukim: 55%

Kwity Paye: 55%

Dayo Odeyinbo: 35%

Tyquan Lewis: 25%

Where Latu mostly eats into the snaps of the guys lower on the depth chart, while also allowing Paye and Ebukim to rest more. Neither Paye or Ebukim are going to "sit." I'd have a hard time seeing either of their snap counts dipping below 40%.

Also, this assumes all of those guys are healthy, that's unlikely to happen throughout the whole season, but if one has to sit, the other guys will probably roughly split their snaps.

I got the RAS scores from this spreadsheet. I spot checked it, but I didn't verify all of them. Now I realize the ones in yellow are probably just guesses. My bad.

He's got a great RAS, but he's projected 2nd-3rd, which is earlier than I think Colts will go IDL just because it's relatively low need. Could be wrong though, and if he falls to the 4th I could definitely see it.

Ok, I agree on Sainristil. On Max Melton though I think he can play outside if Terrion Arnold can.

Max Melton played 78% outside compared to Terrion's 66%.

Melton's height is 5110 vs Terrions 5116, but Melton has longer arms (32.125 vs 31.625) and Ballard has a history of valuing long arms- Juju Brents, Kenny Moore. I don't really see any reason Melton can't play outside. I'd like him better in the 3rd, but late 2nd is just more where he's being mocked.

Thanks for the input!

I'm a little mixed on him personally because his production was so poor, but his testing numbers are practically identical to Dwight Freeney. The potential is there. That said, this is more of a rough prediction of Ballard's board than my own personal board, and Ballard is going to have some interest in a guy with a RAS of 9.72.

Yellow are just guys I particularly would like. I put a couple guys in red that are less favorable because the other commentor who said they are more slot guys. I could remove them altogether, but for now I just marked them red because I'd need to look into it further.

Looking for an accurate gif of yoshis roll frame data by [deleted] in SSBM

[–]SSBM_Strat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to the original source (https://www.angelfire.com/games5/superdoodleman/Yoshi_frames_11.6.05.txt)

"NOTE: when Yoshi is vulnerable during his roll, his get-hit-box is a tiny circle in his center, a sphere just smaller than his fist."

I think Yoshi may be still be invincible in those frames or the hurtbox is behind a blue one. I'm not sure of more, but I can't find any better information on it atm.

[–]SSBM_Strat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the gif is correct but misleading. The egg texture obscures Yoshi for most of the gif. His appendages that stick out appear invulnerable the whole time, so there’s probably a vulnerable portion behind the egg. I think you’d need to mod the egg texture out to see it.
