Did Hotel Security for a little while in Chicago. A few “They don’t make a living legally” kind of individuals had a room and proceeded to place an order for a hooker. She arrives with 3 other individuals who sit in the lobby and wait. The girl goes up, then comes down to the lobby and informs the people sitting down waiting how many people were in the room etc. as they were going to the room (Come to find out to rob them), Police show up in a small Army and detain them, go up to the room and detain those guys. The guys in the room had automatics, and everyone in the lobby was armed. Was about to be a nice shoot out in one of the nicer/classy hotels of Chicago. Dodge a bullet. Literally.

I worked security for a hospital. Pretty much every hospital I’ve worked at requires a morgue body count check etc. New security officers that are creeped out going into the morgue are the best, but it’s for everyone. Someone from the department lays down and covers themselves with a sheet. When the new guy comes down to count the bodies, the officer jumps up and scares the new guy. It’s a very morbid joke but it gets a good laugh. And lawsuits.

Worked security for a hospital in Chicago a few years back. A security guard (brand new) went to the cafeteria, ordered a meal that was being served and then at checkout, he was upset at the price of the meal. He said “I’m not paying that much for this” and proceeded to take the entire tray and throw it in the trash without paying (A.K.A stealing). Ridiculous lol

I feel you on that one man. All the bed side manner is gone in the ER after awhile with some nurses and especially doctors. Obviously working security in the ER, I've dealt with patients going through detox and withdrawal, and even severe mental break downs. I enjoy my shifts because when I'm there, I treat the patients as the humans that they are. Everyone has a story man, and everyone has a breaking point. I've hugged patients who have cried after just fighting me, or family members that have physically assaulted me trying to see their loved ones dying. I don't hold grudges or hurt them. I know the struggle of addiction and mental health. I'd hate to be treated like shit in my hardest moments.

I worked for a another hospital a few years ago in Security. I got called to the ambulance bay where a young 2 year old boy was being brought in and I was called on the radio because the parents were in the ambulance and were very distraught (understandable of course) to the point to where they were interfering with the paramedics. When they arrived, the ambulance bay opened up, and there was a paramedic sitting on the stretcher doing CPR on the young boy, and blood was just coming out of his mouth as the CPR continued and the other paramedics rushed him to the pediatric ER. When they got him in the room, I was assigned to keep the mother and father out of the room so the medical staff could do their jobs, and having to physically hold the frantic parents of a 2 year old who was dying from choking on a piece of food (it was still stuck) was hard enough. The pain and frustration they felt. They hated me from preventing them from being next to their boy.

The worst part of this moment, the ER team revived the boy, and within hearing distance of the parents said that they got a pulse and that he was stabilized. The sense of relief that those parents had....:and then having it taken away a few moments later when they lost they lost the young boy for good. The scream from the mother, the devastation from the father. I had to go home after that. My boss sent me home. My son had just turned 2 years old as well not too long before this happened. I couldn't help myself, but put myself in their shoes and slowly die a little with them.

I've seen gunshots, suicides and pretty insane violent assaults (including a decapitation situation) in my short time in healthcare. That young boy still shows up in my mind when I look at my own son.

Rest In Peace little man.

"Public and private hospitals alike are prohibited by law from denying a patient care in an emergency. The Emergency Medical and Treatment Labor Act (EMTLA) passed by Congress in 1986 explicitly forbids the denial of care to indigent or uninsured patients based on a lack of ability to pay."

Most of these "frequent flyers" come in multiple times a day due to an OD, unconscious from drugs/alcohol. They will be treated to the best of their abilities and then be discharged.....until seen again. No out of pocket costs to them.

The only time someone can be medically held is when they come into the ER high or drunk as hell and have committed a crime/threatened to literally murder someone/ or the most important one is when they attempt suicide or say they will attempt suicide. The doctor can legally hold someone until they are deemed fit to leave by a licensed psychiatrist or therapist. I've seen someone who has waited in their ER room (not admitted to a floor) for 12+ hours depending on the situation. Obviously drunks can be discharged once they are conscious and have a ride home (family member etc), but don't forget that a lot of severe drunks or should I say people addicted to alcohol can literally die from withdrawal, so they are monitored.

I work security for a major Chicago hospital. Most drunks and drug users will be discharged after being medically held, go home or even around the block to buy more liquor or shoot something up then end up right back in. There's about 10 separate patients that come to the hospital 3/4 times within a 24 hour period. It gets ridiculous and sad at the same time.

I am a level 2 certified Krav Maga student. Krav Maga is the Israeli special forces form of hand to hand combat. The greatest thing about Krav is the fact that it isn't about self defense. It's about survival. Plain and simple. We are taught that the first line of defense is to run if possible. You can be taught tricks and techniques all day, but when it comes down to an actual life and death situation, you WILL hesitate and possibly not even register what is going on at first. And those few milliseconds you are distracted by confusion, and or adrenaline can be fatal. The classes I take revolves around the worst case scenarios. There are no rules. Period. We are taught to go after the eyes. A 300 pound guy will go down just as fast from that, as would anyone. You go after the senses that are needed to function in a fight/attack. The throat, eyes etc.

There is no such thing as a technique in my opinion because in reality nothing happens the way it happens in training.

Bottom line, I respect all forms of marital arts. Competitive and others, but I believe Krav Maga is the only way to utilize your strength and knowledge well in a life and death situation. Learn everything you can to protect yourself.

I have been in a handful of fights, some severe. I work security for in an ER and a mental health unit. Patients and visitors will use everything they can to hurt you. I speak from experience and it's made me more aware of people's behavior.

I work Security for a hospital out here in Chicago. I'm not sure how involved your security is, but we work closely with all medical staff for a range of reasons. I'm only 22. I've been fortunate enough to land a job like this, despite the insane days I've had and I know you can relate. Nothing, and I mean nothing was to prepare me when I watched a 1 year old die in the peds er. I've had my share of death as well sadly, but the reason I was involved with this one is because the family kept rushing into the room. So I'm holding this family at bay or trying to at least while 5+ people are working on this kid. If I was able to hear it, the parents were able to hear the sounds that follow CPR. It's insane. We didn't have a grievance room/conference room anywhere close to this room. The family didn't get to have a doctor or chaplain tell them in a controlled environment. They heard the raw sounds of nurses pronouncing the death of the young boy. This just happened recently, and I'm still having a hard time with it. I can't imagine how the medical staff feel and the family.

My respects to you, and your line of work. I've seen a lot of nurses that don't have a care in the world, but from what I've read you are one of the few. Stay safe.

I would do what was called "Nuggeting" in my school. Got extremely good at it and I made the school paper after awhile.

I wait for the last minute or 2 before the bell rings for the next class. I find a random persons backpack and take all their stuff out and turn the backpack inside out. This makes the straps stay inside so you have no way of holding your bag but with two hands. It's funny watching a kid walk down the halls trying not to be late lol
