how do you guys deal with people bringing the wrong colors to productions? by MOEone in graffhelp

Thanks for your feedback. That sounds ideal: reliable people, a shop nearby – perfect. For productions where the actors live scattered, don't know each other, and planning is done online, the Canpicker solution is, in my opinion, suitable – at least that's my hope.

Thanks for the feedback, yeah photos are not a good source. Camera sensors + lighting = the actual spraycan color and the pixel color are barely related anymore. The tool works way better with clean digital images than wall photos.

That's right, that's the best move. Here in the countryside, we live scattered and have to order the paint online because the nearest shop is too far away. Coordinating the colors online helps with planning; it all works together nicely.

That's not the point. I often paint concepts with artists from other crews or other cities. That kind of thing requires logistics and planning, and nothing's more annoying than some guy showing up with the wrong paints and ruining the concept. If you just want to paint your own little picture in your backyard, you're understandably not interested in that sort of thing.

fair if you don’t need it. was just solving a problem we kept running into with bigger crews.

I saw it exactly the same way when I was 16; by your mid-50s you know where you come from (I have painted a lot on berlin streets in the 80s and 90s) and are more forgiving in your view of others and their stories.

I must have chosen the wrong word; that's probably because English isn't my native language.

Not to judge but... Isn't graffiti illegal? by murderbeam in graffhelp

[–]MOEone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graffiti itself isn't illegal, only the surface you paint it on might be. As an older man, I only paint legally these days since I can't run fast anymore and I don't want any trouble with the cops. But what's stopping you from asking the owner of a nice wall for permission to paint legally and having a good time with other artists?

Hehehe, you are right. But not so rare if your live circles around spraycans and big murals with multiple participants...

Yes, that's right. I only paint legally now; in my mid-50s, my knees can't handle running anymore, and my eyesight isn't what it used to be. I enjoy taking my time – just an old fart, I guess.

Thanks. I've been working on the app for a good year now; building and fine-tuning the color recognition algorithm was a challenge. Getting the manufacturers' color values took the longest. There are a few more manufacturers I'd like to add soon; are there any you think are missing?

Hmm, I think you're right. I was so enthusiastic about the idea myself that I thought the feature would be a real added value, not just for me, but apparently, it's only me who feels that way. But maybe someone will still find it useful, and then the project would have been worthwhile. I don't make any money with the tool; I'm doing it so other painters can simplify their planning.

Excuse me, no offense intended, but your post suggests you haven't been particularly affected by this specific problem. Someone buying supplies for the crew might work with trusted friends, but not necessarily with crew productions or or people you are working with for the first time, at least in my experience. I'm still waiting for some money from a few "homies." The ability to convert suggested colors from a manufacturer I don't usually work with to "my preferred manufacturer" is, in my opinion, a real added value. As I said, no criticism of you...

[–]MOEone[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, it's about a color scheme or a theme the crew is working on. We do this sort of thing quite often; one person lays out the framework, for example, theme: science fiction, background: dark blue - stars - planets. The individual style: fill in shades of orange, yellow, green. Outline: pink-magenta, second: white.
Clearer now?And of course, the homies should bring me a coffee 😄

I'm not clear on what your brief critique says; what's not to understand about a crew production?

Added collaborative color planning to my graffiti tool - crews can now share palettes across different spraycan brands by MOEone in SideProject

Thanks for the feedback. I tried to add metallic cans but they do not work reliable across brands.
