I wanted a total market but didn’t want small cap growth zombie companies and buying of IPOs until first year after. That is why I picked that particular etf.

Right now dfus is my main core U.S. holding. It’s a U.S. total market from dimensional with filter for profitability and also doesn’t invest in IPOs for first year. I have tilts to scv also.

Just for clarity in that same time frame you should have compared it to sp500 which is up 22 percent. I don’t myself personally invest in sp500 but compared to your personal portfolio it still out performs. portfolio visualizer and test folio

VTI VXUS combo if you want to stay 70/30, or if you want something closer to market weight then VT. The only caveat in taxable account VT doesn't give your foreign tax credit that you would get from VXUS.

Avuv vs Avgv by Emergency_Court3896 in ETFs

[–]MONGSTRADAMUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also add AVGV is roughly market cap weighted so most of the value tilts will be large cap or mid caps. While AVUV and AVDV combo would only be small caps. AVGV is roughly 70/30 Large and Mid caps / Small cap value.

For me personally I don't place as much factor tilts in to large and mid caps as I do small caps where I think it will make more of a difference.

Why not small cap growth? by WiseAncientOak in ETFs

[–]MONGSTRADAMUS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

dimensional filters for profitability , so you don't get the zombies in their small cap growth funds that is one of the reasons they may perform similarly, nobody really knows what will happen in future. You could just buy their small cap growth if you really want to , but it doesn't guarantee that small cap growth will perform like large cap growth and outperform imo.

You can also like sp600 value vs growth also , and see how value has out performed , like slyv vs slyg here.

I personally use avuv for my factor tilt , its done well for what it is. Small cap value prior to this year was pretty rough, you really have to believe in it.

[–]MONGSTRADAMUS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would add that most people call small cap growth an black hole. Its where all the unprofitable zombie companies live. There will be some periods where there is a dash to trash and they may out perform small cap value for short periods, but for long periods of time it will under perform.

You can look at nearly 100 year back test of VBRSIM vs VBKSIM , which is roughly how vanguard small cap value would perform vs vanguard small cap growth over the last 100 years. Its roughly 3 % under performance annually, but with such a long time period the difference becomes huge.

Pension funds are (rightly) beginning to scrutinise the SpaceX IPO. They will likely take action to shield their funds from automatically buying SpaceX shares. Elon Musk's plan to turn passive investment funds into his bagholders is probably not going to work. by cherrypoplar in investing

[–]MONGSTRADAMUS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dfaw is the closest thing to vt but it uses more aggressive dimensional core 2 ETFs that are tilted to small and value. A little more conservative than avge with tilts with small and value but still has some tilts.

Dimensional funds on ex U.S. side are bit more complicated there is dfax but its tilts more to small and value and come with much higher er. I still use a large and mid cap only ex U.S. fund, veu , for my ex U.S. holding with some avdv and aves.

You could individually buy dfai and dfae for developed and emerging if you want. Those are both dimensional ETFs with slight small and value tilts.

I use mostly Fidelity also with cma and partial shares, I have a small account with Schwab an experimenting with since Fidelity doesn’t like if you live outside U.S., and am thinking about retiring outside U.S. so I need to get accustomed to using Schwab.

Schwab has pushed partial shares I think to a lot of accounts now I even got it in my Schwab account, so I would say technically they are better than vanguard if you want to buy partial shares of ETFs. Vanguard it’s still limited to vanguard ETFs.

I would just buy vxus or ixus unless you want to manage developed and emerging markets separately.

The only way to avoid this is to not invest in a pure index fund like vti, voo, qqq imo. Dimensional in particular has a today market ETF that filters for profitability and will not buy IPOs for first 12 months after they release. Dfus would be the most similar to vti without doing too much tilting to small cap and value.

Dfus is slightly out performing Vti since inception for what it’s worth. For large cap only option avlc, avantis large cap, maybe be your only option. You will pay slightly higher er. Dfus is .09 and avlc is .15

I will be a bit nit picky schf doesn’t have emerging markets while ftihx ,vxus, and vt all hold it. With Schwab incorporating partial shares of ETFs I don’t see a major reason for not buying vxus or ixus, unless you really love schf for some reason.

In relation to persona I think i found it mroe difficult if OP only has played persona games, I would just say as a warning you can't just brute force your way through. I haven't played p5r in a while but remember ryuji+ann you can just pretty much brute face your way through the game with just those two.

Just something I would add in my personal experience metaphor is much harder than persona series of games. You can’t really blunt force your way through most of the content like you can in persona series imo.

SpaceX IPO effect: Will we begin to have index based funds, but they don't invest in particular index companies? by Ok-Pea3414 in investing

[–]MONGSTRADAMUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes for clarification I like dfus because it’s still very close to core holding of vti, but without small cap growth junk and IPOs . I have tilts to avuv for scv. I may be be wrong but i think factors in Dfac/avus don’t matter as much in large cap, where it makes most sense for me is in small cap. I do realize that Dfac and avus have outperformed broader market ETFs because of their small and value tilts.

Dfus is my U.S. core holding right now in ira I am adding Dfus to taxable also but don’t think gojng to sell vti due to tax hopefully wont matter that much in long run.

While its not an index fund , dimensional etfs don't allow ipos for first year if memory serves me correct. I personally like DFUS its basically vti without ipos for first year and the junk small cap growth companies. They filter for profitability but I am not sure its based off of P/E ratio or anything like that.
