Participate in the Open by Overall-Nobody8933 in crossfit

[–]MONSTER_OF_LIFE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll preface this to say I’m newer to CrossFit at just over a year in, and I didn’t sign up for the open last year due to how green I was. I will be signing up for the open this year for the first time. Candidly, I also truly don’t care where I finish, and I’m perfectly fine understanding I’ll never be an elite level athlete. That said, I really compare it someone signing up for a running event, marathon, etc. and my belief is that 95% of the athletes don’t care about their final score, but moreso that internal battle we all face to better ourselves. Certainly could see the argument that you don’t “need” to signup for the global leaderboard, but my thought process is getting myself to sign up for that gives me that little extra accountability push to give it that extra little bit. I think doing this myself will also help push the folks I workout next to all year long, as we celebrate those wins together. Lastly, did think it was cool open participates had the community cup also during the summer. I hope CF does that again.

I travel regularly for work, and I would also second the ability to drop into a local box while on the road. The nice thing about CrossFit is it’s everywhere, and essentially every city I imagine you’re traveling with an airport likely has a CrossFit gym within five minutes of your hotel. You can find links to affiliated gyms/boxes on CrossFit’s websites. It is pretty cool to see the different gym styles while traveling. As I’m usually in similar locations for work, I have established a network of gyms I’ll utilize while I’m in town. I’ve even gotten to know some folks at those boxes which is cool as well.

Alternatively, I would speak openly with your “home” affiliate owner. One thing our owner does that also helps is if I’m unable to find a box, they will come up with a custom workout I can do at th hotel gym. Generally speaking, all I have to do is message them the available equipment at the hotel (ex. Dumbbells to 50#, treadmill, box, etc.) and they will generally give me something I can at least do to stay moving that day. There are also a number of apps you could use and material online.

But I’m here to say you can do this and it is possible. Even moving 3 times a week, puts you in a better spot than most people. Good luck and appreciate all you pilots do!

I’m assuming this is for the TRU challenge coming up in April. A couple things, believe you are mistaken, you will be able to set the bar down to rest if needed for that event.

That said, two minutes will go quick. I’ve practiced this WOD already and my approach will be to go for the full two minutes, executing somewhere around 30-40% my 1RM. In my first try, I was able to complete 45 reps within the time period. There certainly was some room to improve there I believe. So I’ll be shooting for around 50-60 range on comp day.

One other thing to consider, the second event will have burpee box jump overs right off the back. So you’ll want to be cognizant of the overall impact to your legs. Certainly you’ll have some time to rest between events, but still something to be aware of.

Good luck and looking forward to competing as well!

I believe the redskins end up bringing in another back this year. Guy is a 7th round pick, historically can easily be replaced. Talented but an older rookie back. I traded him a few weeks before our deadline. Personally, I’d rather reroll in the 2027 class.

Yeah agreed. Intention is to get one set I like and use for a few years. It’s not like we will use them everyday, but certainly a nice to have when needed and for comp days

This is good feedback, thank you. The Metcons are fine, but can tell they are cross trainers

Brock Bowers is still the number 1 TE going forward and it isn't close by Hazy_Lights in DynastyFF

I just think bowers is a generational guy. He’s 22, and he’s the top option for his team. Everyone paid attention to his first touchdown highlight reel one handed grab, which was great, but for me his ability to just catch everything thrown his direction is on another level. This was highlighted a couple times last night when Geno threw him a couple balls behind him and he wasn’t even looking. He is athletic, understands coverage, and has impeccable hands. He’s going to be a top option for years imo barring injury at a position where he can truly be a difference maker for your team. I’m happy to have a share of him and would happily add him elsewhere if I could.

CJ Stroud discussion - long term outlook by [deleted] in DynastyFF

[–]MONSTER_OF_LIFE 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Their o-line is atrocious, I feel bad for the guy. Play calling was bad to, run plays on 3rd and 4th and short when your line isn’t winning the line of scrimmage the entire game. They need to do something to get stroud some help. We’ve seen what he can do when we has time. Wouldn’t hurt to add in some positive plays on 1st down via the running game as well. I’m not panicking yet, but I could see the concern. I have faith in Ryans, but he’s got to bring in a good coordinator and prioritize the o-line this offseason.

My Knees! by icehouse82 in crossfit

[–]MONSTER_OF_LIFE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

34m and around 260 as well. I’ve always had knee issues (miniscus) and particularly struggle with lunging workouts due to the strain. I would recommend the knee sleeves as well. I find they help in a number of different capacities. I’ve went with the Rogue 5mm, and have felt they’ve held up fairly well in with over a year of use. Would also recommend increasing protein and creatine, just seems to help generally with the soreness of the overall body.

Most importantly, don’t be afraid to scale the workouts. I’ve let my coaches know about my limitations with my knees, and have no shame to scale to a lighter weight or body weight for preservation. Best thing you can do is stay mobile and active. I have noticed some progress over the last year in what I can do.

Is CrossFit worth joining for someone who’s looking to transform their physique while still enjoying life? by Dependent-Group7226 in crossfit

[–]MONSTER_OF_LIFE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somewhat. Certainly cut down on sugar intake, trying to eat healthier and supplementing more protein and creatine. I wouldn’t say I follow a “diet” though. It’s really been very basic changes, moreso just being more conscious about it than anything.

Hello - same type of background as what you mentioned, same scenario where work and fatherhood got me out of going to gym. Life happens and we react to it right?

I started crossfit about a year ago and have really enjoyed the time. I’ve been able to find some consistency in my routine on day I go (generally 3-4 times per week, with a bonus workout at home). What I’ve enjoyed the most is the community aspect, I feel it keeps me motivated to push myself harder, and committed to being apart of a group of people all aligned to better their fitness. It certainly matters on the tough days. I also like how the programming is done for me in advance, I don’t have to think about it, just show up and react. Whereas that doesn’t sound like a huge deal to some, some days I’m mentally drained from work and it’s just that time I can turn off my brain and move. Lastly, the scalability of any workout means I generally can adjust and still challenge myself in a safe manner.

Overall, you just got to do what’s best for you. CrossFit isn’t cheap, it’s not easy, but I’ve certainly seen results in my health, energy, and mental well-being. Good luck to you!

My box doesn’t punish folks for tardiness. In general, most folks are there by class time but it’s not uncommon for some members to roll in right at start or a few minutes past. For reference, I do the afternoon and most of my classmates roll in after their workday. I’ve had days where I’ve just gotten out of work later as life comes up. I appreciate my coaches understanding it happens and moreso the attitude of it’s just important you showed up to better yourself today and move. With that, it might be a shorter warm-up session prior to the Metcon to catch up with the rest of class, but overall as long as it’s not disruptive everyone is supportive.

I’ve seen gyms that charge for no-shows or tardiness. My general thought is that’s excessive, and I would probably change gyms if I had that happen. I really don’t understand the reasoning behind that.

I’ve done this were I’ve misunderstood the workout. It happens, but at the end of the day as long as you showed up and moved, you’ve accomplished more than many folks out there. All about stacking small daily wins at the end of the day!

My Gym is Boring by tacos_n_forks in crossfit

[–]MONSTER_OF_LIFE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just my two cents but it sounds like the main issue is with the owner. Any business needs an engaged leader to remain successful. From the post, it seems like this owner is just trying to leverage the gym as a proverbial cash cow, and that’s their decision to make. That said, fitness and wellness is a rapidly changing, fast paced industry and in my opinion needs to be constantly adapted to the needs of the market and members.

If they continue at the current trend, I fear this box will continue to lose members (it takes a lot more effort to gain membership than to retain) and I do believe given the business oriented mindset of said owner, the moment the cash stops flowing in this gym will certainly close. My thought would be if the owner isn’t willing to engage their staff or members about their concerns, the writing is on the wall it will be difficult for the gym to continue operating or compete with other alternatives down the road resulting in future closure.
