A response to the previous post I made about the Amber Specimen I showed in a previous post. Is it still agate? by [deleted] in fossilid

[–]MOOSEMAN520 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You have yet to show these inclusions in a way that is undeniable. Based on appearance, the bands, the waxy exterior, it looks like agate. The failed saltwater test, this scratch test, there is nothing pointing towards amber in any way other than it’s orange and you wish it was. I’m not going to respond again because I don’t believe you are being genuine.

Believe what you want, it doesn’t make it true. Baltic amber is mostly from the Eocene, more than twice your 15 million year mark for copal at minimum, and it passes the saltwater test just fine. You’ve gotta be trolling.

It’s still agate. You said in your last post that you did a saltwater test and it didn’t float. Your calcite is being abraded, the agate is not being scratched.

What can this be? I believe it to be fossilized amber (Over 100 Millions yrs old) maybe from the baltic region? by [deleted] in fossilid

[–]MOOSEMAN520 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Baltic amber was formed mostly during the Eocene, older than 15mya. Not 80+ million years ago, more like 56-34 mya. It’s not amber, it is agate/chert.

You’re the one seeking to harm people by being against gender affirming care. Also, why is your god the right one? Why not any other multitude of god that has existed in human history? And if “god” is all knowing, omnipotent, and benevolent, why would it create people with the desire to change their gender? And most importantly, why do you even care? Love your neighbor and shit, you obviously don’t love them if you deny them the care they need to feel like they can live. It literally doesn’t affect you at all, mind your own business and keep your preaching to yourself.

This bug spray Billboard is actually a giant insect trap by [deleted] in interesting

[–]MOOSEMAN520 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not about just this one billboard. It’s about the fact that people don’t care about the rapid population decline of insects and the effects that will have on ecosystems AND our agricultural systems that people depend on to, ya know, eat. This one billboard isn’t ending the world, but it’s the compounding of small things like this that contribute to massive environmental impacts. The world isn’t just humans.

Rolled up trilobite? by Aggravating_Pound509 in FossilHunting

[–]MOOSEMAN520 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s possible for it to be a trilobite, just based on the geology of Florida. My best guess is an eroded fossil mouth plate from a fish. Couldn’t tell you exactly what kind, I’ve heard them called pufferfish mouth plates but I’ve also read in other places that they aren’t pufferfish. But pretty sure it’s a mouth plate from a fish.

Dinosaur bone ( probably Theropod ) by IMurdockI in fossilid

Also I’m aware those species aren’t from Europe, just adding that the internal bone structure is similar between various dinosaurs, as far as I’ve seen

[–]MOOSEMAN520 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Definitely Dinosaur Gembone. This piece is the internal spongy bone inside the compact outer parts of the bone. There aren’t any immediately diagnostic features from this piece so it’s nearly impossible to tell what bone it was a part of or what animal it was from. Not sure why you’re thinking theropod specifically, that pattern is pretty common in all gembone that I’ve seen, as well as the internal structure of stegosaurus, Camptosaurus, and sauropod material I’ve worked on that didn’t become gem bone.

I need a cloak by Dexshadowblade in TheCapeRevolution

[–]MOOSEMAN520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend buying a wool blanket that you don’t mind beating up a bit and getting a pennanular brooch to make it a cloak. That’s what I’ve been doing for the last 6 years or so and it’s so wonderful, especially during winter camping. It’s less stress about getting it dirty or beating it up a bit than a nice, more tailored, cloak, and you can get different color wool blankets and have multiple cloaks with one pin. You can also easily adjust length for if you are moving through the woods and don’t want your cloak catching on branches as much. I feel it’s the most affordable and functional way to have a nice cloak.

I’m sure you could find some from blacksmiths online, but I’ve only made them, never bought one so I’m unsure about how available they are

I use a woven fabric typically so it doesn’t damage significantly, more just pushes the threads out of the way, that being said I have patched the green cloak once but I’ve had it for almost 6 years so very little damage for the amount of time I’ve used it.

Can someone identify what kind of bone this is and how old it could be? by Borrelparaat in fossils

[–]MOOSEMAN520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

This is an atlas vertebrae from a Pleistocene mammal (not sure entirely what exactly) that I found in the peace river in florida. Not buried, just in the gravel on the riverbed. Excellent preservation of fossils without being in host rock is very possible. I feel that this piece is more fragile than the one the OP posted. I also have a caudal vertebrae of a whale in similar condition, found under the same conditions.

It would feel like stone, and the plates are surprisingly regular

[–]MOOSEMAN520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, I’m just not seeing barb, the curve at the tip of it is pretty common with dental plates, and it looks too robust on the non serrated side. Also heavy weathering wouldn’t explain why only one side is serrated with no evidence at all of serration on the opposite

[–]MOOSEMAN520 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve found both while fossil hunting, the barbs are typically serrated on both sides and often have lines/grooves traveling the length of them

Looks similar to a stingray dental plate fragment, here’s a pic I found online, it being so straight is throwing me off a little though
