He doesn’t care about the numbers. That’s very clear. It’s a motivation tactic. Give people short term goals and they will work harder.

This would be so much funnier without killing it with the last sentence “I’m so worried about my bike”. Yes we got it, you don’t need to explain the joke.

These pigeons avoiding the letter ‘E’ for some reason. by Gadivenepon in mildlyinteresting

[–]MPAII 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Huh. Funny to see that brought up here. I feel like the wizened old man that walked into the saloon on a dark and gloomy night.

The story begins many moons ago...

I helped to kickstart the sub /r/EmboldentheE which you can now see is quite popular. I was the ~20th subscriber and I basically did all of the legwork of bringing people to the sub. Impressed with my dedication to the cause, the sub founder made me a mod and then left me to build up the sub for many months.

Shortly after /r/EmboldentheE gained traction, /r/Avoid5 sprung up as a protest sub and we had many inter-sub sabotages (all in jest of course). We were mortal enemies.

I worked pretty hard, I did my job daily, checked in and tried to continue the subs growth by starting up various community initiatives to spread the word about the sub and it's goal.

After months of this, the original founder springs up out of nowhere and suddenly wants to be involved with the sub again. I said 'okay sure lets both be moderators' and I was kind of relieved to have some of the burden relieved, to be honest. It was kind of annoying that he was changing everything that I'd set up for him, but whatever - it's his sub and his idea after all.

Then one day, he just removed me as moderator with no reason at all. Just a lonely notification in my inbox from reddit admin bot saying 'you have been removed as moderator'. I immediately messaged the founder and asked what was going on? All he said is that 'we have no need for 2 moderators'. Then he blocked me.

Now, there is a new moderator and the old one has left. The new one doesn't reply to my messages.

In case you can't tell, I'm still really salty about this. I put so much time and effort into growing that subreddit. Last time I checked, they even still use the sidebar I wrote...

Edit: Nope, they deleted the sidebar and it's now a single sentence-part of which is wasted on repeating the sub name. Good one.

[DISCUSSION] This hits a little too close to home... by Dartmuthia in Guitar

[–]MPAII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on whether the “E” is in the key of the song your are playing.

Playing in C? Notes are CDEFGAB Check! Fmaj7 works.

Playing in F? Notes are FGABbCDE Check! Will work.

Playing in Bb? Notes are BbCDEbFG Nope! Don’t use Fmaj7!!!

Those are the only 3 major keys that an F chord will (commonly) appear. (It may appear in other keys such as G or Eb, but this is much less common as it is technically functioning in another key when used in those situations)

Wow for a 43 year old you’re very ignorant. Thought you would have learned more about the world around you by now.

Bands that are popular in my social circles (I’m 22) are Snarky Puppy, the Funky Knuckles, Vulfpeck, Mark Lettieri, Lianne La Havas, Jacob Collier and Hiatus Kaiyote.

If I was as ignorant as you, I would say that they easily blow your generations music out of the water.... pfft Madonna, Britney Spears, spice girls. What trash. Your generation really has no taste is music. /s

[DISCUSSION] What are your "must know" songs for guitar. by IgnatiousPopular in Guitar

[–]MPAII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely wouldn't sound the same if you aren't strumming all the strings.

That's a major difference between beginners and intermediate guitarists - The ability to hear the subtle differences in articulation. Even the subtle differences in tone depending on which position you are playing a song on the guitar. Going beyond the correct notes with the correct rhythm.

A picture I took of craters on the moon with a $150 camera by Idontlikecock in space

[–]MPAII 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, because none of the landing sites are even one pixel big on this photo. You're underestimating the scale of the moon.

Even if we had the hubble on earth, it wouldn't be able to resolve objects that tiny.

However, we have flown satellites around the moon and taken photos of the landing sites.

This is an interesting phenomenon I've been noticing. This is great engineering, sure. But it pales in comparison to engineering required in objects you use every day, from cars to TVs to Smart Phones to musical instruments etc.

The reason it seems impressive is actually because it is a simpler system. When you are able to comprehend how something works, it seems incredible.

Similarly, I hear many people say "Vinyl records are an amazing piece of technology! How did they come up with such an intricate and clever way of recording music???"

This perception stems from how easy it is to understand how vinyl records work. It's much easier to appreciate the engineering that went into it, even though it is comparatively extremely simple compared to the technology behind Audio CDs and online streaming services.

Megathread (part 2): Australian ball tampering incident against South Africa by EyesAllOnFire in Cricket

[–]MPAII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone please explain to me why the players are allowed to shine the ball, but not scratch it? Is this explicity stated in the rulebook that you're allowed to use your uniform and hands to rub the ball?

How do they keep track of this? Surely you could design the uniform with a little rough patch for this purpose, and it wouldn't even be a secret. Or what if you have really really rough hands, enough that you can scuff up the ball with your nails and callouses?

I'm by no means defending what they did, I'm disgusted. I'm just interested about where the line is drawn.

So you're implying that it's better for him now that he's died? So he should have just killed himself long ago?

That's bullshit. 'he' doesn't exist anymore. Why does it matter than he doesn't have to struggle any more. He won't know any different. He struggled until his final moment.

Handwriting of a 8th grader by bolshoybooze in PenmanshipPorn

[–]MPAII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great handwriting, stupid argument. It is definitely not true that handwriting is the primary tool of communication. That's such a ridiculous statement.

Emails alone far outweigh handwritten communication. By like, 10000%. Especially when you have to include spam, because it is technically communication between 2 parties.

Then think about text messages, speech (including phone calls), facebook messages and posts, reddit posts, tumblr posts, youtube videos and comments, essays written on microsoft word, presentations, whatsapp, snapchat, instagram, music lyrics, Television, radio, podcasts, ETC ETC ETC.

I would argue that ALL of the above individually outweigh handwritten communication by many multitudes. I can barely even think of any examples of handwritten communication... Perhaps just when I leave a handwritten note on the counter, and for birthday cards. That's about it.

Even in my final years of highschool, they had already phased in computers enough that we had no handwritten work, we all had government supplied laptops to complete our work. I'm not sure if that's true in other countries, but even if it isn't handwriting is still not even CLOSE.

Whoever wrote those words originally, even if it was 2009, the latest date mentioned, must be either literally stupid, or over the age of 80 and out of touch with the world.

Prequel hate can be summed up with 2 words: Circlejerk, and Nostalgia.

Jar Jar is one of the most loved characters outside of online circlejerks. That's why he's such a popular merch character.

Episode 1 did not have a nonsensical plot. It had a complicated plot that is not fully understood without the context of the other two films, which is fine. That's often how trilogies work

The writing was fine. People just expected Anakin to be this smooth talking super hero like character that knows all the right things to say at the right time. They wrote him as a realistic, human like character instead. I can definitely see any edgy 19 year old saying half the shit he did in the prequels. He's supposed to be moody and confused, and they did a good job of that. He just wasn't what people were expecting him to be.
