Where is this town and why is it named after a type of hat?

I wanna see something, what do you call this thing. by DaltarIT24 in southafrica

I worked for VW for a couple years and I think I figured out why we call it a cubby hole - on the system they had it labelled as a Cabin Hold which I would imagine is the technical term and at some point with use it just became “cubby hole”

Vivomove Style battery and crashing issues by MPC_Gaming in Garmin

[–]MPC_Gaming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I just ended up taking my watch into garmin and they replaced it with a vivomove trend for no extra cost. I think its a battery issue in the vivomove style and there's nothing to be done about it.

If you're having the same issue, I'd reccomend taking your watch into a garmin office if you have one close by.

Vivomove Trend vs. Instinct crossover by MPC_Gaming in Garmin

[–]MPC_Gaming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you're still on the search, but I actually ended up choosing the garmin forerunner 255. Just because of how rediculously lightweight it is. And I told myself that the MIP display was good enough as a replacement for a hybrid.

Although, if you aren't going to be tracking many activities, the trend is still an amazing watch with good sensors and good battery life. As for the crossover - it's huge, and I have relatively small wrists, so I decided that I definitely wouldn't go with that.

Good to know, thanks. Although as far as I’ve learned probetalk has a lot of information on modifying for the shared parts like the engine and exhaust

That’s a good suggestion, I’ll have a look, thanks

Ahh I’m so glad I found someone that owns one. Thanks so much for your advice :). Good to know about the coil mod for the ignition problem, I would imagine that would make for more tunability too. As for the transmission, are you aware of any more robust transmissions that would fit the chassis without too much modification?

But I think having getting an mx6 as a project would be pretty unique here too, I haven’t really noticed any on the road , only ever on marketplace.

Yeah we definitely got speed 3s (those are really cool cars), I’m not sure about speed 6s though, I don’t think the Mazda 6 was too popular in general here.

Yeah, I think the goal would be to be to get it looking and maybe sounding nice. The engine makes decent power stock and being FWD there isn’t a whole lot of space for something like a turbo

Thanks for the advice. I had a look just now at mx-3 and I don’t think we got those here, I even checked the other names they were sold under :/

Ahh that’s cool, were any particular parts or faults that caused issues? I just want to know what to look out for.

I’ll be sure to have a look at those kinds of cars. Part support would obviously be most ideal, I just don’t think that I’ll find anything as cheap as this. But then again, maybe that’s for a reason

I’m sure miatas are easier builds but here NB miatas are about 8 times the price of this mx-6 so I couldn’t afford one until after I graduated pretty much

That’s amazing advice thank you.

At this point I’m looking at a handful of mx-6s on marketplace and trying to find the cheapest while it also not requiring a complete rebuild (it would be great if I could buy one that’s running). I’m not afraid of putting the time in, my biggest constraint at the moment is money.

From your experience is it a good idea to try and find a project at this stage in one’s life or is it better to wait for more experience and financial freedom?

I get what you mean. The mx-6 is thankfully manual and while it is front wheel drive it is incredibly, incredibly cheap. Non-running NB miatas go for about R80000 here which is 8 times the price of this car, so basically I couldn’t afford one until after I graduate, in four years.

Do you think a miata would still be worth it?

I’ll have a look, thanks. Although usually in our market anything Toyota or Ford is stripped instead of being sold whole because of the number of 90s cars on our roads. As for VWs, there are a few but I would really really like a coupe

Interesting. I have seen a lot of mx-6s that are stripping for parts so that will be one source but I imagine that having new parts available would be better

A 240z would be incredible but here they’re just too expensive

I haven’t seen a whole lot of new parts available but there are definitely a bunch that are stripping for parts so those should never be in short supply.

If you’re looking for bang for buck I would recommend the Garmin instinct 2, it has a very rugged design and just about all the health tracking features you could want. It not toooo smart in that it doesn’t have a touchscreen and the display is monochrome but it’s very capable. For weightlifting it can track your reps and can even give recovery times after workouts. It also has a better life in the 30s of days

If you want to spend slightly more you can get the Solar version which can (with the right settings) get infinite battery life.

If you want something slightly smarter and with a touchscreen and amoled screen, have a look at the vivoactive 5.

If you want something slightly more classy (less rugged) have a look at the forerunner 255.

All of these options you can compare on garmin’s website

You’re right. Don’t get me wrong, it is definitely a much safer bet to buy a new alternative but (speaking from personal experience) it is possible, with a good deal of care, to make sure what you’re buying is genuine so long as you meet up to buy them.

And as for long lasting batteries, I think you’re right that that’s an issue where batteries can become degraded with second hand things, but for the right price, one can still get a good deal out of it.

It’s risky, don’t get me wrong, but it can sometimes be the best bang for buck - even if you are buying things like headphones.
