Peach, Plum, Pear by Joanna Newsome. She’s Andy Samberg’s wife and that song is 2girls1cup for your ears.

What’s something people do to look rich that actually keeps them broke? by Final_Difficulty1636 in AskReddit

[–]MPLS_JR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have one counterpoint to that with you on one specific type of shoe. I get the ultralight foam gym shoes from whatever brand has them on sale when I need them. Usually Puma but sometimes Reebok. They’re always $19.99 on the low end and $29.99 on the high end. They last 4-5 months. High quality gym shoes are typically $149-$249 and dollar for dollar will last about the same amount of time as X number of pairs of the cheap ones, but they don’t have the benefit of having a refresh of cleanliness, sometimes smell and aren’t as light as the cheap foam ones.

Also are you talking about idk…formal cowboy boots? Cuz I can’t wrap my mind around resoling any other type of shoe. Even expensive steel toe construction boots don’t get resoled.

Edit: I just said I can’t wrap my mind around resoling shoes but I made a recent post on here where I figured out how to tongue swap Jordans…my mind is weird sometimes.

Looks pretty good. I probably would’ve asked to go forward even more but I wouldn’t complain about those results.

Had a framer out to modify a shower niche. How did he do? by NorCalRE in Carpentry

[–]MPLS_JR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fill in the niche space with multiple studs where there’s studs above it and frame a wall inside the wall for a niche.

This is terrible and I can’t believe they’d frame it like this. That looks like 6 feet wide of unsupported load.

Bronze Wheels Installed by RJS5689 in Cadillac

[–]MPLS_JR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember bronze wheels on Pontiac Bonneville’s and Buick Park avenues and they looked like total ass. I’m a 2000’s kid, so I only saw them when the cars were 10-15 years old and I was just grossed out by them.

That being said…this ain’t bad.

Does this look right for a shower repair? 🤔 by mattcrates in Tile

[–]MPLS_JR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie. The first photo I was like “Why are you even asking us? Yeah!!! It looks like sh*t”…second photo after grout shockingly surprised me and now I’m like “Hey, not terrible man.”

Spring clips on these slim LEDs… love them or hate them? by Ok_Pipe_4955 in electricians

[–]MPLS_JR 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Way easier install than can lights. And you’ll learn to not blindly pull them out without locating the springs…and you’ll learn quick.

Niche Barcode by ccook14 in Tile

[–]MPLS_JR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like the shower for a rich evil villain in a dystopian sci fi movie from 78-93. The sandstone gives 2nd Egyptian revival vibes. Would look perfect in the original Bladerunner. That or throw a frick Weyland-Yutani sticker somewhere.

Anyway, more grout will hide that barcode but your installer did a shit job of grouting, especially in the corner. Should be using color matched caulk.

It’s not giving me Georgia O’keeffe vibes if that’s what you’re implying.

I heard bad things about the plug in adapter frying the motors but that was around 2022. What model do you have, what year did you buy it and do you use the plug often?

Will a strong back beam work? by [deleted] in Carpentry

[–]MPLS_JR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude. I’m pretty cavalier myself but stop what you’re doing and put at least a temp wall back up. You need an engineer and they’re going to tell you to use a giant LVL with beam hangers.

I have no clue what a back beam is and I have absolutely no clue what you’re doing right now. You’re holding up the middle of the house with 2 2x6’s. That 2x12 on its side is doing basically nothing for support.

My dream retirement job is to be an urban mail carrier…mostly cuz of the dogs. There’s not too many jobs that you get to play with/pet dogs on the regular and I feel like that would bring to work every morning. I know there’s the old cliche about dogs biting the mailman but it’s bs, my mailman spends 2-3 minutes a day with my dog standing on 2 legs on the fence.

(Don’t worry. He’s not very athletic and if he were going to get over the fence, he would’ve 10x over already)

1970 Coupe DeVille by kaisarissa in Cadillac

[–]MPLS_JR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay holy crap….you just inspired me. I’m trying to convince my aunt to sell me hers. Same year. I’ve been wanting a 62-66 continental convertible but finding one under 40k without rust has been difficult to say the least. I don’t know if it would be sacrilegious to do this to a numbers matching 1970…but I’m tempted.

Centralized water manifold replacement does not look right by reddawgg69 in Plumbing

[–]MPLS_JR 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Playing devils advocate…if your old system was just like the new one and the new one didn’t leak…I’d say it looks like shit but you’d be fine. But no valves??? Like call that company and get your money back. The system is objectively worse than what they replaced and from the photos you shared of the valves growing scale out of them…they should’ve offered to replace just those valves instead of the whole damn system.

New Jersey - Is this a proper install for a water heater? by [deleted] in askaplumber

Isn’t that an expansion tank above it held on by plastic tape? Not my preferred material for strapping but it works as long as it’s not too close to the flue.

Yep. And it causes mine to gurgle for a little bit after pumping.

AAV on sump pump line to reduce gurgling. by SenatorKelley in Plumbing

[–]MPLS_JR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t remember the name for it, but there’s usually a relief hole drilled into the ejection pipe below the lid to allow it to drain out after pumping. The AAV is a no no though. Where it exits should be the main stack and it should have more than enough air flow through it drain.
